Think I'll wait for the Xiaomi unit

Keen for a Mi Box too. Do you know when it is coming out or available to be purchased?

For $69 USD, the Xiaomi Mi Box is going to bring a lot of storm to the Android TV market.

      • he has some videos of Kodi playback and i am dissapoint. Struggles to run high bitrate 1080p hevc :/

        • Do you remember which video that is? S905X has some small limitations on some extremely high bitrate codec but that shouldn't affect 90% of us.

        • @MadMaxBargainRoad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCdOfhQTsWY

Admittedly it was very high bitrate hevc, which i agree won't effect the majority of us.. all i really need it to do is play common 1080p hevc and 4k hevc once they become more common

        • @garvani: Yeah, I am pretty sure it can do up to 4k/30fps/hevc. Personally I wish it does 4k/60fps well as that what future sports will be. Other than those I am not too fussy.

      • What is so good about this box compared to others? And when is it available here with aus plug?

        • +1

Android cast, decent Bluetooth remote, real Android TV system (as opposed to Android Phone OS with a dodgy launcher), Netflix HD and system support by Google.

I wouldn't hold my breath for an AU model.

      • • 2,500+ streaming channels.

Does the Mi Box have access to all the same streaming sources as Roku ? Or do Roku have some good exclusive ones ?

Good deal. I have one, a couple of points:
    * To view 4k, you need a HDCP 2.2 compliant UHD TV. I have an older Sony Bravia and while it's 4k, I needed to get a converter to make it work in 4k with my current TV.
    * It's far faster than my roku 3. Videos load way faster overall.
    * I hate the stupid buttons on the remote than can't be repurposed. For example, there's an rdio button which leads no where, but there's not a way to reassign that button in the software. That seems silly.
    * I really miss the 8 second skip back button vs. the Roku 3.

For most people, I don't think you need a Roku 4 vs Roku 3 really. I have both, but other than spinning up videos a bit faster, they are basically the same. There's just so little 4k content that it doesn't really justify the roku 4 vs 3. I guess you could argue that it's more future-proof, but I'd wait until there's more 4k content before saying that for sure.

    • What converter do you have to get 4K working without HDCP 2.2? and how much does it cost? I have a similar problem with a Seiki 4K TV

  • Does all the streaming content work in Aus?

  • Memobox UFO looks similar to Xiaomi MiBox and it is going on sale today on AliExpress.

One of the features I love about my Roku is the audio via the remote using headphones. Great for watching stuff when people are sleeping.

    • The exact reason I have a Roku 3. I was just about to pull the trigger on another one yesterday for the lounge room. Glad I held off.

  • Ignoring for a moment the huge price difference, isn't the Nvidia Shield better that this and the Mibox, especially considering it is now a PMS as well

    • Yes, but better in/for what. If you don't need all the extra you get form a Shield, then no.

      • I think the shield is worth it just for Kodi/SPMC and PMS capabilities, everything else is a bonus. But you have a point that everyone may not be after all that! Cheers
