Free 2GB Bonus Data for All Vodafone Customers

1960
This post contains affiliate links. OzBargain might earn commissions when you click through and make purchases. Please see this page for more information.

All Vodafone customers will be eligible to receive a bonus 2GB of data.

It’s our way of saying sorry to those customers affected by a router malfunction which caused intermittent disruption to mobile services last night and this morning. It’s also to say thank you to our other customers for their loyalty.

Postpaid customers will receive an additional 2GB of data during their October or November billing cycle to be valid for the entire billing month.

When prepaid customers recharge between 7 October, 2016 and 6 November, 2016 they will receive a one-off additional 2GB to be used during the length of their recharge.

Customers will be notified when the additional 2GB of data is applied. The data will be applied automatically and usage can be monitored via MyVodafone. The data is for use within Australia.

Good luck. Use it if you get enough reception

Cheers

      No comparison…
Firstly, telstra charge an insane amount for basic plans because they apparently provide "premium quality reliable service" that never goes down in comparison to optus and Vodafone. This must be Vodafone's first major outage since the old days of "2012" .

Telstra this year alone has had about 6 major outages and counting…

      • +6

Tbh Telstra's network is pretty damn quick, and they don't promise 100% uptime.

Vodafone didn't have complete network downtime, mostly their services reduced to 3G.

        • +4

I had no service (could not join the network) for 3 hours. So yeah, this was a full outage for me.

        • +1

          @erd:

I just forced my phone to use 3G and it worked again, I know 3G in some areas got overloaded.. guessing this was one

      • +5

Didn't even realise there was an outage… Was it widespread?

        • +1

only one journalist, so it got picked up by the media and Vodafone freaked out, and gave it to everyone.

      • -7

dunt worry, no matter how much data they compensate you, you just can NOT open anything when its full bars at 4G+.

        • That's the outage mate.

        • The article said only 4G was interrupted, but 3G was fine.

        • +1

@ATangk: "During the disruption, customers were automatically switched to 3G or 2G, however congestion meant some were intermittently unable to access voice, data and text services….." So it's no internet or very crowded.

        • @ATangk: the problem is they've been slowly downgrading their 3g network and refarming the spectrum to 4g.

      • -6

Hahahaha yeah, sure. Show me which plans are insanely more expensive? You sound exactly like an Apple hater. The fact of the matter is, Vodafone have vastly inferior networks. I know, cos I've used them a lot. Have been on Telstra for years and will never look back. $50 a month at the moment, 8GB Data (unused rolls over, too), unlmtd calls/text, it's all good.

        • Aaaaaaaa….. Time waster and a stalker….

Ok mate, enjoy Ur regular free data Sundays every time telstra goes down..

Apple hater? Wow, u looked up my previous comments about the iPhone SE being a pointless phone.. MagnumPI on oz bargain!!!!!

        • -6

@Myright: I said "You sound exactly like an Apple hater" - I didn't read through your posts at all, dude.

Even if I did, calling me a stalker? How god damned pathetic are you.

        • +1

          @ThithLord:

So according to you, anyone who is on Vodafone is an apple hater. Bahahahahha who's being pathetic bud?

        • @Myright: You have a very poor level of reading comprehension. Where the fck did I equate being a Vodafone customer, to being an Apple hater?

This is what I said: "Show me which plans are insanely more expensive [that demonstrate bad value]? You sound exactly like an Apple hater."

        • +3

You're kidding me right? Everyone knows Vodafone is far better value for money. People only go with Telstra because of fears of poor reception or if they live in whoop whoop.

Let's start with the $35 plan, infinite calls and text on Vodafone with 1.5gb data or $300 with 500mb at Telstra. Next plan, $50 for 8gb with unlimited Vodafone or the same with Telstra but $1000 credit and 5gb data. If you want to talk about your 8gb, it's because you're on a 12 month plan, Vodafone gives 15gb if you do a 12 month plan with them.

I've been with Vodafone for 6 years, never had any strange dropouts or outages with them ever. However I've been with Telstra for the past 9 months and I've experienced 3 outages and consistently incorrect data calculations that to this day have not been fixed.

        • -1

@IndecentExposure: Completely incorrect. I'm on PrePaid. Where are you getting your pricing from?

          https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…

$30 - 1.5GB Data, plus 1.5GB Bonus Night Data, $700 credit for Calls to Telstra, unlimited text to any ph , $5 international credit
$40 - 3GB + 3GB Night Data, Unlimited calls to any Aus number, unlimited text to any Aust number, unlimited international calls to selected destinations ($10 international credit)
$50 - 4GB + 4GB Night data etc etc, I could go on. All include rollover data when recharged before expiry.

        • +3

@ThithLord: I was comparing the byo phone sim only plans. You're right, I should have been comparing pre-paid plans, they are a much better deal for the low cost recharges. Once again, Vodafone wins. You get the same thing for the $30 recharge but 2gb all day all year instead of during sleep time and 5gb all day all year for the $40 plan. If you want to talk about promos like the bonus night data, try Vodafone's half price $40 plan for $20. It's just better value full stop. Also, until recently my Telstra phone would always have 0 reception at Coles merrylands but everyone's phone with Vodafone would be just fine. The providers are all similar for people living in the capital cities.

        • +2

          @ThithLord:

Ok enlighten me! What constitutes an apple hater????? You've call me an apple hater, now tell me how on earth you came to such a stupid conclusion based on my post about vodafone being better value than telstra..

Wtf is wrong with u man… ? Wrong meds? Getting no action? No bargains?

          Geeezz..

    • +2

Telstra has a much larger presence in Australia and it is not owned by foreign entities.

      • +1

Incorrect, Telstra has many foreign owners with the restriction that no more than 35% can be foreign owned and no individual entity may own more than 5%.

    • -3

dunt worry, no matter how much data they compensate you, you just can NOT open anything when its full bars at 4G+.

    • +7

Free data day, on a Sunday, when most people are at home using Wifi…… oh so generous Telstra….

Good job Vodafone, free data to use at my discretion

  • +6

What if I'm on a 365 day data plan?

    • it says all vodafone customers are eligible so im assuming you'll be credited as well

      • +2

But it requires a recharge after " a date in October to be announced" to trigger the eligibility?!

Another question - Are new prepay customers (porting in) in October eligible as well?

        • yes from the wording of the post, even new customers will be credited with the 2gb when they recharge.

    • +1

"When prepaid customers recharge after a date to be advised in October and within a month of that date, they will receive a one-off additional 2GB to be used during the length of their recharge.

Customers will be notified when the additional 2GB of data is applied. The data will be applied automatically and usage can be monitored via MyVodafone. The data is for use within Australia."

    • +1

Yeah, I'm slightly upset that I won't be recharging within the next month…

I am not really sure if I should care, as it was at the outage was at night and on a Sunday…

The only annoying thing was I thought my phone was broken and needed to be replaced.

  • +5

    how about TGP mobile customers?

    • +1

I'd be happy with a 5$ discount instead, I barely use 1/3 of my 1.5GB

      • I'd prefer a discount too. My plan comes with 20GB which I hardly use at all..

        • Seriously? 20GB in Australia on a phone plan? Wow. How much is that a month?

        • @hamwhisperer:
Not that much. $80 a month with s7 edge. When the phone first came out that was the cheapest that I could negotiate regardless of what plan I chose, so I just went for the highest one even though I don't really use that much data

        • @mrdavedave: That's such an immense amount, at that point you really could use facetime or skype in public cafes with mates or just generally use it 'willy nilly' almost. Daym

          Well I pay only $20 and get 1.5GB, honestly I'd rather pay $15 and get 1GB :)

        • @hamwhisperer

I have got a similar plan, 20gb/ month with a free 16 Gb iphone 6s Plus and is costing me $ 100 per month. Sometimes it's not enough and I wished I had a 50 Gb allowance.

  • +5

Can I swap the 2gig of data for mobile reception?

    • +8

if it's that bad why don't you just switch to another provider?

      • +2

I never thought of that. Thanks!

        • Go to the TIO if it's really bad

  • +5

Outage??? When? How did I miss this?

    • +1

Everybody wants something for free eh

    • There are outage for about 5 hours yesterday night prior mid night.

      • +2

Well that explains it. .. Sunday should be all about eating, relaxing, OzBargaining and Netflixing… Not social mediaing, texting and complaining ..

        • Not even able to make and receive call.

      • +2

Interesting. Whereabouts do you live? I didn't have any interruption myself.

    • Shhhh! otherwise you won't get 2GB data for free ;)

  • +2

I was severely affected. Had nothing from 6pm to 2am yesterday.
    Cheers OP!

  • -5

Thanks optus for providing a service that is not flawed ; )

  • don't they have redundancy lol and they only mention a "router" haha

    • +2

Someone at vodafone must've tripped over the ethernet cable

      • +4

Night staff cleaners did it, Unplugged it to plug in the vacuum cleaner……wasn't found till the morning.

      • Better than the time a loud fire drill caused ING to be fully knocked out for 10 hours, payments, website and all.

    • Ah Vodafone you missed the cut20 deal, no worries keep checking ozbargain to buy afew more routers on discount

  • How about Vodafone mvnos?!

  • +1

Extra 2GB will be handy in the portable WiFi.
    Thanks OP.

  • +2

Telco compensation which is actually useful

  • +5

Better compensation then the Telstras free data day on a Sunday.

    • +3

Better for everyone else too, nobody downloading terabytes and making the servers unusable.

      • Oh the memories!

      • Unuseable, yeah right.

  • +2

wasn't even affected but I ain't sayin' no!

  • -5

How is this a deal. It's just a information for vodaphone customers effected by recent vodafail network problem. In my opinion, It just belong to forum section.

  • -5

This isn't a deal….. Why is it on the front page!?

    • I agree. I am unsure if I a missing something, but this doesn't seem like a deal. More like free advertising for Vodafone.

      • -2

Agreed… Just free advertising. Those with voda, will be getting sms/emails to advise them. We don't need this on the front page.

For those not on voda, we get nothing, so not a deal!

  • -1

I've recently purchased the vodafone 180 expiry 8gb data starter sim, but I haven't activated it. Is there a way to get the 2gb extra with what I have

  • I experienced drops while using my Vodaphone Pay as you go pre-paid number and I wonder if it will stay true to its statement since a recharge can last a year.

  • strange that many galaxy s7 users inlcuding myself reported didn't have outage problem, but yes it does cut out for a seconds or two and internet very slow.

  • +1

wonder when the 'date in October to be advised' will be advised…?

    • Exactly. Why couldn't they just tell us?!

  • Vodafail service will take some time to improve

    • +1

They already have plenty of time to improve but still nothing

    • To be fair, Telstra had multiple well-publicised outages recently too…

  • I was playing Overwatch tethered to my phone last night. No outage. Weird.

    • Wouldn't that consume a lot of data since it's an online game?

      • not really, no. online games dont use THAT much data. 100mb an hour with voice chat.

        • That's improved a lot then since I tried it many years ago. Wouldn't it be annoying though if you were tethering and you accidently was downloading an update/patch and that consumed all of your data?

        • @cortex21: I suppose so, but Windows lets you set connections as metered, which stops updates as far as I know. And I just keep other applications and what not closed when tethering.

        • @theguyrules: Ah that's good then I suppose, thanks I will keep that in mind if I need to tether.

  • +1

So they are copying Telstra except not unlimited. Anyhow Voda even if unlimited I wouldn't use.

  • I only had about an hour of reception dropping in and out

  • any good deal for those on prepaid wanting to recharge soon?
