[QLD] Crompton Lighting 12W 4000k White LED Dimmable Downlight $9.90 (Reduced from $14) @ Bunnings Warehouse

90

Was looking for some new downlights and found these reduced in Bunnings.
Light type is 4000K which they describe as Cool White, however some other light companies seem to describe lights in this range as Daylight or Natural Light, which I'd say is a better description of these lights after testing one.
Comes with driver & flex/plug included & a 5yr warranty.
Full details here: http://www.crompton.com.au/products/new-products/12watt-11wa…

Note: Bunnings also sell a warm white (3000K) version (with a silver surround) however they don't appear to reduced at the mo.

    how many lumens?

    • Its 12 watts which is almost double the standered of led lights (7w) so it should be pretty bright

      • Crompton product PDF says 990.

If it helps, I tested one in a darkened rumpus room which measures 4m x 5m and it lit up 1 corner nicely. 4 in the room will probably be overkill to be honest without a dimmer being used.
Also, I got the last stock at the Browns Plains and Springfield Central stores, so there's none left there for anyone looking in Brisbane.

  • How come it isn't reduced on the website? Is it store specific?

    • Showing $9.90 on the website for me. Bought mine at 2 different stores. 1 (Browns Plains) had a reduced label showing lower price on the shelf, whilst the other store (Springfield Central) was still showing the original price however they scanned at $9.90.

      • I see. Maybe QLD only as when I tried a few other states it comes up as $14…

    Straight outta Crompton

    :P

  • Shows as $14 for stores near me so may be state or store specific.

  • Even at $14 seems pretty good to me, though at $9.90 would be great bargain. Might grab one anyways.
What's general opinon on Crompton? I also noted that they are IC abuted and covered - a lot of other LED downlights seem to only be abuted.

Just reminderMasters are now having 30% off interior lights. Brought set of 12 6w LED kit worked out to be $9ea.

    • The problem I have here is getting matching replacements later, though I guess Bunnings has no guarantee on holding a line of stock either.

      • Pretty generic design for the 90mm cutout, esp the white. Flush or Recessed.

4000K is definitely termed "Cool White" in the lighting industry. It is the colour most commonly used in offices, the Colour 840 fluorescent tube (which replaced the old "Cool White" 4100K).

"Daylight" colour is usually 6500K and "Natural White" is often 5000K. 3000K (Halogen) is "White" and 2700K (incandescent) is "Warm White".

That said, human eyes and brains have Auto White Balance. You can only see differences in "white" if you already have a contrasting white point set. Generally that white point is set based upon the colour of the primary light source in your recent field of view.

So, if your room is lit with 3000K halogens and you fire one of these 4000K lamps up, it will look blue compared to the "white" room. However if your room is lit with 4000K like these and you fire up a 3000K halogen, then the halogen will look "yellowish" compared to the "white" room.

In summary, the colour makes no difference whatsoever - however it needs to be consistent throughout your home or it will be noticeably weird.
