The A119 with GPS is a nice dashcam that's worked well for me so far apart from a few quirks - GPS is flaky so the speed it records at the start is highly inaccurate (compared to say the Panasonic dashcam which seems to get a GPS lock significantly faster).

Worryingly, when you disconnect USB power the recording pretty much stops at that instant (the capacitor only seems to provide enough power to cleanly shut down the camera and close the recorded file but not to record a few seconds after a power loss in the event of an accident.

Also wish it would have speed alerts — perhaps in a future firmware upgrade?

On the plus side, the image quality is very good especially at 1440P resolution although it does this at a high bitrate so your micro sd card will get more writes to it vs other lower end dashcams. Have used a 64gb Sandisk Endurance without any issues and it's small and discrete size means it doesn't need those ugly suction attachments those cheaper models use.

Which Panasonic model do you mean?

      • The exact model is the CY-VRP112T.

This I believe is similar to the HP F310 - the design and interface makes me believe they might be brothers (with a few minor tweaks in the outside plastic shell and possibly splash startup screen) that originated from the same assembly line.

  • I got my first one from everbuying last deal posted by MM as well.

I quite happy with the dashcam itself. GPS module is OK. The video quality is quite good.

The only problem is the delivery is not trackable in Australia and took about 2 weeks to get it.

The second one I purchased from an ebay store when 15%off deal on cost me about $106 ($124.44 before discount) . The delivery is so impressed.

I am going to try gearbest to get my third one for my friend. Hope their default delivery is quick

    • +1

Gearbest's free standard delivery can take up to one month.

      • +1

They do provide "Australia Via Priority Line" for only US$1.21.

I will give them a try.

    • +2

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Everybuying and Gearbest are sister companies.

      • +1

Wrong. EverBuying and GearBest are sister companies

        • Haha got me there. Damn autocorrect.

  • How does this compare to the G1W-CB and the SG9665GC? These two seem like the popular ones according to various forums.

    • Hey they are in different price ranges so hardly to compare.

I prefer A119 GPS coz it quite balance on price, functions and video quality.

    • I have one and it's way better at night time footage than the G1W does. Does better than the Street Guardian too until a new SG or G model is released.

    • I was just checking my G1W footage now and this A119 destroys it in day and night time.

  • I'm looking at getting two cameras front and back. There's going to be a new version of the SG9665GC which features dual camera. Not sure if to wait for that or buy two A119's which will undoubtedly be cheaper than one SG9665GC.

  • Anyone make a dash cam with a backup HD that i could put under my seat?

    • Not a backup but the recorder could go under the seat, the K1S.

      • Thanks that looks perfect

    • Dunno if spindle hard disks are good with potholes and speedbumps etc

  • what kind of mailing method do you guys use when checking out?

  • +3

If you value after sales customer service, then do not buy from gearbest. I found good quality dash cams and better after sales service at diggcams.com, check them out instead.

    • +1

They have improved a lot Check This

Also you can check my previous comment

      • +2

I thought that GearBest were banned on ozbargain for few years.
        Has something changed ?

        • -1

monty.melb works for them I think

    • +1

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago from gearbest. Payed an extra $10 dollars for tracking, insurance and faster posting and it arrived within 8 days. I've bought quite a few things from them in the past 6 months including lithium batteries and the longest any delivery has taken was 17 days with basic postage. In the past they have been slooooow but I've never had anything not turn up eventually

    • Gearbest is awesome. Orders always arrive on time.
I ordered some stuff the other day paid and extra $11 for DHL and got in 2 days

These guys are my goto store when needing anything

      • +4

Are you serious? They're the worst, the only company to have ever lied to me. Twice.

        • I'm just impressed you have had zero other companies lie to you.

    • Thanks Mahogany, I will give diggcams.com a go.

      • No worries, I've bought a few of their "mini" series dash cams, all good quality and value.

    • Hi Mahogany Granger,

Sorry for any inconvenience we have brought to you.
Could you pls pm me your order number and let me help you with after sales customer service?
Or if you have any suggestion for our better improvement, pls just let me know.
We will work hard to meet your satisfaction.

      Thanks,

      Sunny

  • +3

Thanks Monty, I thought I'd give these guys a go, I don't know if it's because I ordered two, but the 7-15 day priority line shipping option was free too.

I'm still pissed off with Everbuying over the last bullshit story they tried to tell me about the A119…that "factory don't produced any more".

  • +1

    Thanks ordered one

  • These were cheaper in the past?
Still waiting for my last order to arrive from GB.

    • This deal is cheaper than before GPS model is US$77.99 & Non GPS model is US$72.99. AU $ is more than before because of the Dollar Fluctuation.

  • Thanks OP, got one. Further 8% off with code "FBGBES". Paid extra $1.30 for priority shipping (Australia Post Express), I'll report back when I receive the item in 1-2 week time.

    • +1

      how to apply both coupons?

      • Yeah, mine wouldn't take any other coupons or even let me use GB points either.

        • +1

Im pretty sure you cannot use GB points if you are using a coupon - and we probably never buy from GB without a discount coupon heh - so may never be able to use the points.

        • @systmworks: Yes, according to the GB points page it seems you are correct.

Looking at your comment below, it sounds like you didn't have any more luck than me with stacking codes…our orders were essentially the same! ;)

    • I guess you may forget to change the currency to AUD first. What I can see is extra $1.62 for Priority Line

      • I don't know did I left it as USD or not… With the code I paid AUD$84.83 via PayPal for the non-GPS one with Priority Shipping. Already got the shipping number from GearBest.

    • Yeah, I applied the JV one fine, but when I used the code above it wiped out the JV discount and went up in price from $208 to $245 (for 2 units) so I re-applied the JV-GPS code again.

The first 3 shipping options were all free - only the last one had a cost - so I got priority line shipping free.

    • Receive the dashcam today, tracking number doesn't really works.
Checked the bank and I did paid in USD… so it's ~$110, but happy with the deliery time.

      • I also paid in USD - mine came to AU$208 (so $104 ea)

My tracking number doesnt work on TrackingMore.com (most Chinese orders do) but using some other Chinese site that GB support provided, I can see it was collected on 27/9 but there has been no more info to show its left China yet.

Let us know how you find it once you have unpacked/installed it.

  • +1

Why do we have to choose AUD currency, wouldn't it be better to leave in default currency and let credit card company (28 degrees etc) convert?

    • Yes you can do that as well GPS version is US$77.99 n non GPS model is US$72.99.

  • +1

    Great deal Monty!
Apparently one of the best dashcams of 2016 - review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amjcsoExAQU

  • I'd probably recommend hard-wiring one of these into your car with something like power magic pro. Thought I'd never use park recording as the only idiots on the road are those on the move….but low and behold some woman backed out of her drive way and smashed into my parked car 10m down SMH!!!! Good thing I saw this.

  • +3

If you hold on a month or two, the A119S will have higher day and night video quality

  • +3

As Bearosaurus said, EverBuying and GearBest are sister companies. Now I understand.

Bad experience from both. Bought a G1W-CB & a memory card from Everbuying, received the DVR only, sent them 4 emails, no one seemed to understand what happened and did nothing to help, I had to escalate to Paypal for a full refund claim, but lost the return postage. Then I bought the same(DVR & a memory card) from GearBest, a week late I received an email from them, asked me to pay them an extra US$1.89. I explained to them that I already paid the full amount on the checkout, they ignored. In the end I had to cancel the transaction. Never again with these two.

    Be aware and good luck!!!

      • +2

        Well, they both failed obviously!!!

I appreciate your effort, and will follow your lead if you can work with other companies with better services and products, but please, not with these two, or their sisters or bothers.

      • +2

BTW, both of my purchases were made recently through the links that you provided on OZbargain.

        • -1

          @monty.melb:

Okay, let's see what you can do.

The order number from Everbuying is E1606280401472918. I was refunded by Paypal after I made the claim, but lost the return postage $21.64(as Paypal doesn't cover it). I have a receipt and evidence of it if needed. If you can have this resolved, I will send you my another order number for Gearbest.

        • -1

@feverever: Now you have already refunded by PayPal. My point was if you have contacted us before making PayPal claim we would have resolved it quicker.

        • @monty.melb:

So you cannot do nothing then, this sounds very familiar to me, same thing I heard from the Everbuying and Gearbest.

Do I need to remind you what you said above?

As I stated before, I am using oz bargain since 2010. I have talked with company before being associated with them regarding
          * How they going to handle Complaints.
          * How they will deal with DOA.
          and so

and they have promised with me that they will deal every complaint very seriously and 100% customer satisfaction.

If they fail to do so, I will no longer work for them.
        • -1

@feverever: yes but you have already received refund from PayPal.

        • @monty.melb:

Now I understand why they hired you…

        • -1

@feverever: so you want your postage refunded?

        • -1

          @monty.melb:

          Obviously!

        • @feverever: can you please PM me. I will help you with that.

  • Great find. got myself 2 today after my previous apparently dodgy cam failed to record me parking beside a 4wd who managed to dent my 2 doors while leaving the car park park. He actually left his details and is fully cooperating. I intend to send my old dash cam to dashcam hell, Russia.

    • This camera only records when it is powered so unless you re-wire the electrics to power it constantly when needed via a switch (or your cigarette lighter provides constant power regardless if there are keys in the ignition or not)

  • I bought one of these a few months ago now. It's a nice looking and unobtrusive crash cam. I turned off the(lane Departure) LDWS and (Forward Collision) FCWS warnings as they drove me up the wall with false positives.

Video quality is pretty good without being exceptional, I went backwards and forwards between 1080 @ 60 fps and 1440 @ 30 fps and to tell you the truth still haven't settled on one or the other.

I found a development site (via google searching) with a beta firmware update that did actually sort a couple of niggly issues.

My general impression is that it is certainly one of the better units around and I don't think there are too many out there offering 1440 @ 30 fps.

The video quality won't blow you away but is most likely up there compared to many others.

I paid more than the price here but pretty happy with my purchase.

And here is a link to the firmware updates, https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/a119-pre-production-be…

  • Hi Monty,

I could not complete purchase of this Dashcam as delivery address defaults to USA and Live chat was not useful either.

  • I ordered 2 and paid by credit card and now just received an email from GearBest asking me to send them a scan of a utility bill to prove my address and my credit card!

No way am I doing this..I'll await their response but if they don't confirm the items are being shipped immediately I want a full refund.

    • Hi Beansrus,

Could you pls pm me your order number for checking?

      Thanks,

      Sunny

  • Hi Monty, I bought A119 and received an email as posted on 26/09/16 (Melbourne) Any idea when I ll receive the delivery….? I am going away in 2 weeks time…! Just want to find out…!! Thanks

    • Mine turned up this morning - the tracking website says collected on 27/9 (in China) and no updates since.
Someone else posted they got theirs yesterday too, so yours should turn up any day now.

  • Thanks for the update..!

  • Got it today

    • Yay.
I'm very happy with the 2 I've installed. Much better than my old G1WH models.

  • Which brand sd cards you have got…? Thanks

    • They recommend using 633x cards, for good speed and reliability.

I bought Lexar 64GB UHS (633x) cards for $45 from Dick Smith (Kogan) ebay store. Paid $36 during a 20% off sale.

  • Both these codes are expired :(

Now i have to wait till the next deal…

  • Yey got my A119 (with GPS) on Monday! Unfortunately the long USB cable and the GPS isn't working. Already in contact with them, and they seem very quick with their support. (Which is good news)

P.S. Mine came with black adhesive pads and not grey. (Even the spare pad)
