  • It's no Starvis 2 like the Vantrue E-Series is, but for the price suppose you can't go wrong.

  • How many minutes would 128gb give you? hard to find an answer on this one

    • 50 minutes per GB @ 1080p. So, about 4 days.

      • +1

4 days continuously. In reality without away mode on (I don't think this one has such feature) it's more like 2-4 weeks worth of footage.

  • "This device contains a non-replaceable coin cell battery that is fixed internally"

So can't charge and can't replace battery? How long does it last?

    • Lol, look up supercapacitors versus batteries in dashcams

    • +1

well the cmos button battery on my PC motherboard hasn't been replaced yet, its been 9 years

    • +1

Navman make shithouse dashcams. The fact this has a battery instead of a capacitor makes it ewaste. Avoid.

??? Says on website provided by @rollthedice, Super Capacitor - Built-in super capacitor for reliable performance in hot conditions and can operate in temperatures up to 70˚C. The MiVue™ KUBE uses a super capacitor rather than a regular battery to provide stability in warm weather.

        • That's better then.

      • Can confirm, the box says supercapacitor.

That coin-cell is probably for real-time clock (to store time when off power). This model specifically uses supercapacitor for power, means it will last long enough to safely power-off after you switch off ignition, but won't be enough to use the dashcam continuously without external power (like from your car's 12V cigarette socket).

Supercapacitor is actually a good thing for dashcams - it lasts longer (in regard to age), and way less likely to catch on fire than a lithium polymer cell, especially in harsh environment.

      • It's about the longevity of the battery. My 70mai battery expanded, buttons melted, still works but only when it has power.

Supercapacitors acts as short term battery that will keep running for shorter period (like an hour, after power off) however with better tolerance for heat and repeat charge cycle, where as other battery tech dies/expand/explode.

    • you plug it in, lol

    "SOLD OUT"

  • Seems there are about 2-3 left at Cranbourne VIC store. Just grabbed one with a thick layer of dust on the top of the box 🤣

Updates - it's a very basic dashcam. Boots up to recording start in around 10s (which is a bit slow IMO). Not much configuration options, no GPS, nonsense. Just 1080p recording and dates on the video, and non-removable logo. The camera is running quite hot to the touch, and SD card slot is especially hot, but not to a degree that would burn. 3-minute video would take ~300MB of space. That's some really high bitrate for a dashcam, less than 20 hours of recordings (depends on how much you drive, around a week worth of footage) on a 128GB card if you do the math, no wonder the manufacturer slip in a piece of paper to recommend high endurance SD cards for the device.

Cannot do on-demand event recording (i.e. snapshots) so only gyro-sensed events (like a crash) is stored permanently. Also you may soon realise how nice it would be if a dashcam has a ball-joint mount - this one doesn't have it.

One nice feature is that the dashcam has built-in memory card format feature. Basically plug and play if you don't care about timestamp (but you really should care about it!).

I'd say others are right - at $99 it's not good. But at $40, it's actually a deal given how much a known-branded (also sell in Australia) dashcam usually cost.

  • You know a company has gone downhill when they start selling at k mart

  • I bought one from Perth Kmart just FYI it was behind the service desk away from the public

  • Now to figure out how to cable this in

Buy first, worry about using it later. It's the way.
