A 70-200mm L lens without breaking the bank.
No IS and only f/4 but mostly a non-issue at well-lit areas. It's one stop smaller than f/2.8 but the low-noise high ISO in recent cameras pretty much make up for it. Not as "bokehlicious" but unless you know what to look for or have a side-by-side comparison you mostly probably won't notice it IMHO. Just remember a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS is about 4x the price (IS version is 2x) :)

Excellent bang for your buck for anybody wanting to improve their gear and take the next step in their photograph. Minor error in those "zoom from 27-88mm" numbers. Those refer to a full frame equivalent of the 17-55mm (assuming 1.6x crop factor). The 70-200mm is an EF lens, and on a 1.6x crop sensor would equate to a 112-320mm f6.4
