AmEx Statement Credit: Spend $20 on Android Pay, Get $10 Credit (AmEx Issued Cards)

2970

They did it for Apple Pay, they did it for Samsung Pay, now it's Android Pay's turn! Just found it in my AMEX app. If you can't find it/don't want to install the app, the link I've provided has an enrol button.

If you are getting this message:
"Unfortunately this campaign is by invitation only. Please visit http://www.amexconnect.com.au for other fabulous offers"
Then you are attempting to add a bank-issued AMEX and thus cannot take advantage of this deal (thanks to various commenters below but Turd in particular for his detailed reasoning) for noting this. It has to be an AMEX-issued card.

Also if your Android phone is rooted, you can't use Android Pay. Might be able to get around it if you search for solutions?

Copied and pasted:

  • Save the offer to your eligible Card and tap to pay with Android Pay spending $20 or more on that Card, in one or more transactions, in store by 20/10/16 to receive one $10 credit. Limited to the first 10,000 Cards to save the offer.
  • Only American Express issued Cards are eligible for this offer.
  • You must have a compatible Android Device and your Card must be enrolled in Android Pay. More information about Android Pay, including how to add your Card, is available here.
  • Offer is limited to one credit per registered Card. Only spend on the Card you register counts towards the Offer.
  • Card Members can spend using Android Pay in store at any merchant in Australia that accepts American Express contactless payments. Examples of stores which accept contactless transactions from American Express are available here.
  • Excludes online purchases. Offer valid at Australian locations only.
  • Credit is not redeemable for cash or other payment forms.
  • Credit should appear on your billing statement within 5 business days from qualifying spend but may take up to 90 days from offer end date.
  • Credit will not be applied to your Account if it has been suspended or cancelled.
  • Credit may be reversed if your qualifying purchase is refunded or cancelled

is it only one per card?

    • +2

If you actually read the post:

Offer is limited to one credit per registered Card. Only spend on the Card you register counts towards the Offer.

  • +3

Anyone know of the cheapest Android phone with NFC?

  • Tried to enroll and it says invitation only :(

    • +1

Did you try to enrol your bank-issued AMEX? Maybe that's why. It says in the conditions AMEX issued cards only. Either that or you haven't enrolled your card in Android Pay yet? Sorry, no more ideas apart from those

  • +2

    Your first deal post?

    • +7

Yeah. I tend to comment more ahahahaha

      • +1

A first post that garners over 250+ votes already, no doubt more later - that is something to be proud about! :-)

        • Thank you! :)

  • +1

You can use Android Pay for some in-App payments. This also works with phones that do not have NFC.

    Participating merchant apps:

    • Bountye
    • Catch of the Day
    • Deliveroo
    • Dominos
    • Eat Now
    • Hotel Tonight
    • Printicular
    • Vaniday
    • +7

It says excludes online purchases, which is what an in-app payment is. My AMEX app says in-store only.

      • +2

        DOH!

  • +2

Guess I should stop being a cheapskate and buy a phone with Nfc feature

    • It's pretty nifty! You can go to Woolies and Coles and get your Woolworths Rewards/FlyBuys points and pay for it without having to take your wallet out thanks to Android Pay!

Now if only Westpac would hurry up with their negotiations with Google so I can use my Debit MasterCard and Visa on Android Pay as well …

      • +1

So is it like paypass but instead of your card, you tap your phone on the scanner thing?

        • +1

When you pay, yeah. To claim the points you scan a barcode on your screen.

        • @kerfuffle: I can never get the self-checkout scanners to scan the barcode on my phone :(

        • +2

@Twirtle2: It certainly takes a bit of practice and angling the phone correctly

        • +2

@Twirtle2: I think it depends on the type of scanner. I can never get it to work in Town Hall Woolies, however it works in my local Woolies. As for Coles, they have a small horizontal scanner next to the EFTPOS terminal where you can scan the barcode on your phone

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

I see. Thanks. Same as when I use my Coles MasterCard in that case. Turn my card and scan to get Flybuys then tap it to pay.

        • +2

@kerfuffle: It works with newer CCD scanners but not the old-style laser ones.

        • +1

At Coles, use the Flybuys scanner which is separate to the grocery scanner.

Woolies grocery scanners work fine though.

        • +1

@Twirtle2: If you have one of Samsung flagship Galaxy phones(S4 onwards/Note I guess) they have a special sensor which doubles as a barcode transmitter. I have a Galaxy S5 and so far it had worked with every barcode reader I've ever tried.

        • @zuccs: Not at Town Hall Woolies. I think it's because they have the older scanners

        • @FirstWizard: I've got a Galaxy s6 Edge so in theory it should work right? I've only tried at Gordon Woolies and Chatswood Coles so far (didn't realize they had a separate scanner though)

        • +1

@Twirtle2: The only catch is, the special feature only works when you use the Beep'ngo app from Mobeam.

That's the only app capable of using the beaming hardware.

        • @Twirtle2: I've got a Samsung Note 3. Beep n' Go works fine for Flybuys and other cards. There's a special IR LED on our phones, that can mimic the signal a laser would see, when flashing across a bar code.

(I think the Galaxy s6 Edge has the IR laser)

        • +1

@foundit: Ahh I see! I've installed it, so I'll give it a go next time. Thanks!

    • Your link is dead. The link I've provided in my post works once you click on the Enrol Now button

Only for Amex-issued cards, not bank issued ones (which you can't register for Android Pay anyway)

      • +3

You can register ANZ Amexes on Android Pay.

        • Duly noted!

        • But you're just saying you can use ANZ AMEX on Android Pay but not this promotion right?

        • Yes, that's right - I tried to register my ANZ Amexes for this promotion but I got an "Unfortunately, this campaign is by invitation only" error.

    • Cheers. Saved the offer on one of my card but didn't show up on the other so used your link to register manually.

Now just need to decide which NFC phone to buy lol

    • +1

Why the link is not secured ?

  • Anyone have a list of stores that have android pay in store? I've check WW and Coles and they both "claim" to have it on the Android pay site but they dont have the machines in store (i.e. they dont have the android pay logo on their machines)

    -edit-
seems I was wrong, WW wasn't on the list… mistook the green from 7eleven… still, haven't seen them in Coles.

    -edit2-
Actually, I remember seem them in IKEA Rhodes store… too bad I have nothing to buy there now… Maybe the Ladda LSD batteries?

    • +1

Any store that accepts ExpressPay will also take Android Pay. For example, both DJs and Myer take Android Pay, however only Myer have the Android Pay logo on their terminals (probably because theirs are provided by ANZ who are an active participant in Android Pay whereas DJs terminals are provided by Commbank who aren't even on the coming soon section of Android Pay)

    • +1

      IKEA don't take AMEX

      • Would the payment be treated as Android pay payment or AMEX payment? If the former, I dont think IKEA will turn the payment down… of course, I only saw the android pay logo, not sure if they actually take them yet.

        • +1

It would be taken as an AMEX payment i.e. the card type you used would be AMEX

    • +3

Works most places that take AMEX contactless. Doesn't work @ 7Eleven despite them having a sticker on their machine.

BigW, BWS, Dan Murphy's, Woolworths, David Jones, Dominos, Even Cinemas, Harris Farm Markets, Hoyts, McDonalds, Myer, Rebel Sports

    • I've used Android Pay (although not with Amex) at Coles.

I assumed it would work on any contactless payment gizmo…

  • +1

This worked for my two Amex-issued credit cards (they are on the same account), but it didn't work for any of my bank-issued Amexes. Oh well, still $20. Thanks, OP!

  • +3

Unfortunately this campaign is by invitation only. Please visit http://www.amexconnect.com.au for other fabulous offers.

    WTF

    My NAB amex didnt work

    My AMEX AMEX worked

    • Only American Express issued Cards are eligible for this offer.

      • Ya! Oh well still registered 6 cards instead of 9

    • Yep, I got the sane with my ANZ Amex. Worked for my Qantas Amex though through the app.

  • Has anyone used android pay at Coles?

    • +3

all the time. had no problems with it.

      • +1

Ditto. Also used it at DJs, Myer and Woolies

    • Tried tonight, the Coles contactless reader gave an error message (no payment methods available) then on subsequent 4 attempts said "contactless unavailable". It was my first try to use Android Pay so I've spent ages checking the settings and help and don't seem to have anything wrong, thinking it might be Coles…

    • I tried 4 times before giving up.

HOWEVER, I checked my settings once I was out of the store, and I have more than one NFC banking app.
Android Pay was not the default.
The default one had given me notifications that I need to sign in.

So … I've changed the default and will try again … sometime or other.

      • +1

I faced the same problem yesterday, so shared it here … thinking it could affect quite a few people depending on apps you have installed in the past. Fortunately, I was the only customer in the line, the checkout girl was patient and just as curious - so I could try until I got it.

      • +1

Confirming it worked at both a Coles and a Coles Express once I had Android Pay set to default.

      • Samsung Pay always insists it is made the default payment app if you want to use it at all. So with Android Pay, I figured that might be the case with it too especially when Android Pay works without it being in the foreground. Looks like that is the case then!

Worked at woolies for me. I think it should do fingerprint authentication before enabling payment, but it doesn't, rather, it works as long as the phone is unlocked.

  • +1

Thanks OP, didn't even know Android Pay was available in Australia

    • It's been out for over two months now!

  • Anyone had trouble with setting up the Android pay app? I am getting your phone or software is not supported message on my rooted SG S4.

    • Maybe you cant work it with root?

Worked fine on my Sony Z non-rooted.

    • Yeah, no deal with custom roms or root. I went through every different permutation with my OPO, only thing that worked was flashing stock Rom and not rooting.

    • +1

This apparently fixes the issue with rooted phones and Android Pay - http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/09/18/automagisk-allows-ro…

  • looks like adding cards in android pay will get set you back $2/card, is it suppose to be like that?

    • +1

Yes, normal. It is the android system testing the card to see if it doesnt get rejected.

The charge will fall off in a few days if it doesnt get actually charged.

      Standard practise

    • +1

      That's just an authorisation

  • cool thx guys

  • Im having a trouble adding my card to Android Pay. It says 'Your card couldn't be added Please contact your bank for more info. You can also try adding a different card.' But Google already debited $2 from my card (in fact I tried five times so 5x$2=$10)
    Anyone having a same problem?

    • Gotta ask, but 1. Is it an AMEX 2. If not, is it a card from one of the banks that support Android Pay?

You can try adding it in your Google Wallet and it should show up in Android Pay as ready to add? Good luck

      • Yes it is an AMEX (not bank issued). Ill try adding it to my google wallet

      • It says google wallet is not available in Australia?

        • It says it's not available, but you can still add your cards to it under Payment Methods. I've got my Visa and AMEX loaded in my Google Wallet so when I buy stuff online I don't need to fill out all my card details as Google Wallet already knows them, just my CCV

    • I am receiving the same error message after I added my 2nd card.

    • I got this after adding a second card from the same Amex account.

  • Can anyone recommend a cheap Android phone to use with this offer?

  • A lot of phones doesn't have NFC, especially those so-called "very good spec" phones from China…. Don't just assume new phone will all have NFC.

    1. Is it 20/10/16 one day only?
    2. Can I spend it in Coles?
