    • Haha, facebook is going nuts. More people should be negging this.

Why should people be negging this?? its not his fault people arent getting the cheap flight they want. it was nice of funnyjsmith to let us know about the sale.

        • Doesnt Air asia get the negative's? My negative is directed at air asia.

  • +1

i just got 2 tickets from MEL to KL for $71 each

    • yep, AA already confirm that the sale is only for flight TO KL, not for flight FROM KL to other destination.

  • Shame on you AA, you are destroying your own reputation. We all got fooled by AA one more time. It's like last year FREE seat sale, end up it's only for domestic flight.

  • Has this worked for anyone here?

Has anyone gotten tickets for London. Apart from their gay timings and sucky server. I don't think anyone got anything out of this.

Thanks for posting this, theoretically it was a great deal. I don't blame you for sharing.

    • Lol all the positive votes were before 2am. Not a single once since.

      • thats not true. i put in a positive vote 6 minutes ago.

        • lol.. yes but at 2am there were 69 votes
          +1 from u
still there are only 66 votes now.

lol this could end up worse than shopping square

And people sud check facebook out. Funny as.

Very misleading email. Thoroughly disappointed to have wasted my night.

  • AirAsia AAX freeseat only applicable for AAX destination to KL, Good luck!

  • What a waste of time "which means you can get from Australia, to KL, onto the UK and back again for under $240."
    Load of crap.

  • +1

To quote directly from the email…..

    "Dear BARTHOLEMEWH,

You pay the fee and we fly you for FREE! That means all you pay are the taxes and charges on ALL long-haul AirAsia X destinations, which means you can get from Australia, to KL, onto the UK and back again for under $240."

I loaded up 4 x OOL to KUL @ $0 plus tax in the first 30 seconds and have been searching for a return flight since then to go with it….. Their email is absolute bull****.

@mod: I have revoked my +vote for this, but how can put a new -vote for this deal?

    • You can only go from pos to no vote, or neg to no vote. If anyone wants to revoke their vote, hit the votes tab, find your vote, then click revoke.

  • I 2nd this.

  • Just wake up for this… now off to bed again.
    Damn you…AirAsia!!!

  • SCAM!!!

  • False advertising in the email - says free flights (just pay taxes) not only to KL but from KL - which isn't the case.
Not a smart thing for AirAsia to do.
Jetstar alliance!!! I'd think twice Jetstar. Who would want to be associated with an airline with a rep like this?

Deceptive conduct by AA not offering sale fares departing KL as they advertised. Blatantly misleading from AA, thanks for posting the deal though

  • Very misleading.

  • +1

folks, I just woke up and check for myself, very disappointing indeed. I originally thought it would be a good deal according to the industry news…AA is letting itself down!

  • bloody hell
stayed up just for this now i'm absolutely smashed for work. I was expecting return flights too as per last year!

  • I've revoked my vote. Congrats to anyone who won the server lottery. Still a bargain but a hit and miss on though.

  • A pity, looked like a brilliant bargain. Hope someone got something from it!

This would be the equivalent of Harvey Norman offering $1 computers and advertising them as limited supply for 48hrs but having only ten per store. It's called bait advertising and it would clearly be illegal for a retail store to do it. Why some airlines still get away with doing this is beyond me (better yet, anyone who stayed up this morning pls feel free to lodge a complaint with the ACCC http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/54217 ).

A few hundred people get cheap seats, AA gets a ton of free publicity, the majority of the public miss out and airlines who actually play by our competition policy gain nothing.

The ACCC have a brochure on bait advertising on their website,
    http://www.accc.gov.au/content/item.phtml?itemId=759632&node…

    • +1

They had 0 fares for sale on the return leg.

This is worse than the scenario you mention

  • Deceptive email from AirAsia.

I have a flight with them in March, I'm going to see about a refund … I don't want to support this airline.

  • Real disappointment from AA. $252 was the cheapest flight Perth - KL return I could find, used to be a whole lot cheaper.

  • @xyz, this isn't a case of bait advertising when there were never any return airfares at the sale price to begin with. It was blatantly false. This wasn't about winning the server lottery either as there was nothing to win. The sale fares were only ever one way to KL. This was confirmed by AirAsia on their Facebook site during the sale the morning.

  • I can't even find the free flight from GC to KL!!
They should provide the information if all free flights have been sold out.

  • LOL, AA just ruined their own reputation …

    massive FAIL!

    • -1

reputation.. are you serious? They have never had a good rep. They have always had a bad rep, this just confirms that! The only good thing about AA is the price (sometimes), nothing more.

  • SCAM!!!

Air Asia are the worst airline I have ever flown with, and I have flown with many. I wouldn't fly all the way to London with Air Asia even if it was for free. AirAsia around Australia is ok, but any international flight is simply not worth the agony. There is no way I would want to sit in total discomfort for a 24 hour flight, I would much rather pay the extra $1000.

  • it's annoying if you don't get food

have to order in segments and miss flights and pay hefty fines. not really comfortable travel i guess

  • i'd be interested to know if their reclining seats makes it any more comfortable.

With this promotion you could have got a return flight for $300 - that is roughly
$73 Melb —> KL (sale fare)
$230 return KL —> Melb (regular promo)

That's still good for an international flight, but in the past it's been exceptionally cheap at $100 a return ticket. So really I think we've been spoilt in the past.

AA should have made their promotion clearer. There weren't very many seats anyway, within 10 mins i saw them disappear 2am this morning

  • Does anyone else think this is bait advertising?

I'm going to look at letting the ACCC know through this form http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/54217

I don't think it's fair that AA strings us along like this for the mountains of free publicity.

    • +1

It's worse than bait advertising because there simply was no bait. There were NEVER any sale fares on return flights from KL. Not 1 seat. It's a very clear and simple case of False Advertising.

The only sale fares were to KL, not outbound from KL. So when they said "That means all you pay are the taxes and charges on ALL long-haul AirAsia X destinations, which means you can get from Australia, to KL, onto the UK and back again for under $240." It was complete BS. As stated on their Facebook page -

AirAsia: “AAX freeseat only applicable for AAX destination to KL, Good luck!”

      Good luck indeed.

      • Agreed.

Our competition regulator (the ACCC) should step in and prevent further false/misleading/bait advertising.

        • +1

I suggest that anyone who was up at 2am this morning should complain to the ACCC and detail their experience of only being able to obtain a one way ticket at the special promo price, as it's a very simple case of false advertising. Especially after their own confirmation on their Facebook page, it just confirms all our suspicions.

Once again it was not a case of 10,000 people trying to book 10 available seats at the promo price… Air Asia simply did not sell ANY outbound long haul flights from KL as advertised! The more complaints the more likely action will be taken by the ACCC.

  • did anyone get a $10 airfare from KL LCC to STN london? i cant find any there must of been just a few and are now all gone.

  • This is dodgy…

  • malaysians who have airasia credit cards can get these offers 24 hours before everyone else.

But this is worse as they changed the promotion by facebook later.

No acknowledgement of the fact that they only sold Aus to KL fares and not return ones, as advertised.

    • Good spotting.

This situation is exactly why we have consumer protection laws that prevent dodgy companies from leveraging off media organizations who fail to check their facts and who make use of false/bait advertising to get their name promoted in the public for free.

Lodge your complaints to the ACCC, electronically http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/54217

      • Bait and switch at its best. Thanks for the link, just complained to the ACCC for being douches.

  • I agree that AA never sold any 'free' flights out of Kuala Lumpur. Only ones that went on sale were flights going to KL.

And even if they were 'free' i struggle to see how they would have come under $250.

Last night I booked a free MEL - KL flight with $73 in taxes.
Managed to get a free LON - KL flight today with $177 in taxes.

Total so far $250 NOT including 'convenience' fees, luggage, or meals.

Not sure how much the 2 extra flights I will need to eventually book will cost me, but I question how did AA manage to calculate that mythical $240 figure that made headlines and led to my low productivity at work today…

  • Holy shit, just when I thought the backlash on OzBargain was bad, check out facebook: "http://www.facebook.com/AirAsia?v=wall&ref=search"

On another note, congrats xyz, I believe you have made the SMH. http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-news/airasia-anger-240-l… lol :)

Calm down and put your shirt back on. The issue here isn't the value of flights in today's economy, it's simply a case of AirAsia not selling what they advertised. Plain and simple.

  • I wonder if this sale has anything to do with their plans to sell Air Asia X :(

The article is from today - so I think it does.

    http://www.aviationrecord.com/Home/ArticlesPages/tabid/58/ar…
