Braun Electric Toothbrush At 50% Off

530

Hi Guys
After getting so many good deals, I thought I'd post one up too.

My mum has just bought me a new electric toothbrush at the Shaver Shop.
its a Oral B (Braun) Triumph electric toothbrush at half price $100.
I know you may be thinking its ridiculous for a toothbrush but she reckons its the cheapest its been.
I was always skepital about them but my whole family is using them now and my parents are pretty happy with it.

From looking at the site, there are also other ones starting from $30.

Well hope you find them to be a bargain :)
BTW. I'm pretty sure these things are made in Germany for those who care.

  • Nice, I bought mine about a month ago for $140 delivered, but that had a bonus handle.

Personally, I find it makes a big difference compared to a regular toothbrush!

    • +1

where did u get that ?
is that offer still valid ?

      • The twin packs come and go, they are not always stocked but they are not a limited once off offer either.

Call your local electrical stores and ask if they have them in stock.
You will generally pay a little more for the extra handle however it's worth it as a spare or if multiple people use it they can take the spare when they travel.

        • ic. thx anthony!

  • That's awesome. even better then the rebate prices.

  • Did you parents buy from the shop or online? Can only see two models on sale. Was hoping to get the 5000.

      Hi Zhenjie
My mum bought it from the Chadstone shop. She's still not back yet but i'll ask her. There's only three models in the catalogue on 50% off so i'm not too sure about the other. I'll post more info when I get it :D Thanks for the +

Add: my mum just got back and she's also bought a few packs of the brushhead, seems they are pretty cheap. There was very limited range at Chadstone, she bought the third last triumph there(I'm very happy! The box was as big as a Playstation box lol). I don't know what the other shops have but at Chaddy it was the 3 on the catalogue.

      • she bought the third last triumph

Ask her to try and read the LCD screen when she is brushing. I have yet to discover a way to do it.
I think they should have the text backwards so you can read it in the mirror.

Not that I see a need for a screen on a toothbrush!

        • Crazy.

You don't want it internet-connected so your teeth can tweet about how clean they feel?

          We all do ;-)

        • +2

haha you dont need to read it dude, its only for selecting mode before you start eg clean teeth, massage gums etc.

as for looking at the timer, which is the only thing you can see while the actual brushing is on, it gives off a small vibration every 30 seconds to tell you its time to move on to the next quadrant of your mouth and a longer vibration at 2 minutes to tell you your brushing is complete.

i got the triumph as a gift at launch when it came with a bonus handle about 2 yrs ago. its the first electric toothbrush i have ever used and for those of you who are thinking of making the switch, all i can say is DO IT. it really does give you a "dentist clean feel" :D

  • The triumph is fantastic! Great price.

  • Is the model 4000 or 5000 with smartguide?

    If it's 5000 Smartguide then it will be a bargain. As in myers now is 20% off = 200 x 0.8 = $160

  • Just noticed that there's a 30-day money back guarantee on those too! (Well, on the two most expensive ones).

  • colgate 360 ftw!

    • Is this the Arcade model?

  • The only reason I would ever buy oral b is if I purchased a few years worth of refills at the special price.

At full price you are getting ripped off.

    • Ignore the RRP of $17 for 2 heads mentioned in the catalogue.

You can buy a 4 pack of precision clean heads (3 + 1 bonus) for around $15 from the shaver shop normally.

      • Really? That's really cheap! I might check it out tomorrow.

        • They are not at that price all the time, they seem to come and go however it is a very semi-regular thing

  • How do you justify paying >$100 instead of getting the cheapest Braun electric toothbrush (circa $25)? No doubt electric toothbrush is better than a normal toothbrush but I think it's marketing gimmick for the higher end more expensive models. These toothbrush types use NiCad batteries which do not last long and not replaceable.

    • +2

If you've used one, you'll know why. It's the motor.

      • I have owned 'many' 950TX. Every 2 to 8 weeks my brush will hum otherwise it won't turn off and the service center will replace it with a new packet. There is no need to purchase heads. Each packet comes with two and sometimes they give you bonus refills. I lost count of how many replacements I've had.

My 2 year warranty just expired and guess what… my toothbrush is broken :(

I might try a different model. Which one breaks the least?

        • Had the Triumph for 18mths to 2 yrs and no problems at all.

          • @AntMan76: I replaced my predecesor model to the Vitality after 2 years of usage. Pitty that the battery can't be changed. Alternatively I'll be happy to pay for a better model with a battery that does not suffer from memory effect. Towards the end of the life, it was clear that the in-between charges get shorter and shorter.

        • I'm not sure which one breaks the least, but if you compare the specs of the 950tx to either the Triumph or the 8850 you'll see that these more expensive versions rotate at a much faster speed. Can't fault the 4 in our home.

    • The triumph is the only model which works on 110/240 volts.

Thats why I purchased mine anyway.

  • think of it this way… plaque has the consistency of cream.

if you can justify forking out triple digits, plus buy refills on a 3month basis then go ahead.

i only use the triumph 5000 because i was given it for freeeeee

Thought i would post a cheaper deal ($23 + 9 postage) for the 950TX that was recently posted here. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/26297

EDIT: Theres still a few left, just scroll down to the bottom and click on auscourier's link.

hey guys the triumph is a good price.
for $100 its great…i am a dentist but i always say to my patients
that just spend 60 or so as they do the same job as the $200 1s.
    its the technique.

    still good price.

  • I paid $145 for my Triumpth 9900. Very good deal :).

  • I got the triumph 5000 with smartguide. The brush offers various brushing modes (daily clean, sensitive, massage, polish and deep clean) so you can set the mode according to your preferences. The smartguide is there to help you brush the 4 individual quadrants of your teeth, and allocates a set time (30 seconds) for each quadrant.

    • smart guide isn't needed through.

The non smart guide model vibrates too so you know when to change corners of your mouth, the screen is just gimmicky.

I think the only extra thing you get on the smart guide screen is a warning telling you that you are pressing too hard on your teeth.
If you dont have smart guide you can still hear the motor makes a very different sound.

A word of warning to those buying an electric toothbrush. Once the toothbrush is on your teeth you are pushing hard enough.
Pushing the toothbrush onto your teeth will eventually cause damage to your gums.

      • It's a good idea to get some professional advice when using electric toothbrushes, they are great if you use them appropriately however very damaging to the teeth and gums if excessive force is applied. Usually the dental hygienist is the best person to tell you.

research show that there is no add benefit over manual toothbrush, unless it has reverse oscillation function, so I will stay with good old manual toothbrush :)

    • +1

      you got proof of that?

      • +1
        • +2

classic! wkbl, i think you'll find more research showing that "proper" electric toothbrushes are much better when used properly.

        • read comment below.

        • -1

did you bother to read the conclusion from the site you just posted?

here is>>AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS: Powered toothbrushes with a ""rotation oscillation"" action reduce plaque and gingivitis more than manual toothbrushing.

definition: A rotation oscillation toothbrush is a round brush with bristles that rotate in one direction and then switches to the other, i.e. reverse oscillation.

now read my post again, I rest my case.

          • +1

            @wkbi: lol, hmmmmm I don't see your point…
All Braun Oral B electric tooth brushes that I've used do what you just said.
Therefore your arguement doesn't stand up.

Therefore I will stay with my good new electric toothbrush. lol >.>

          • +2

@wkbi: All Oral B electric tooth brushes have oscillating-rotating heads.

          • +2

@wkbi: As others have said. There was no point in you posting your 'facts' when this thread IS about oscillating electric toothbrushes, and not pulse or vibrating ones.

        • for some reason I cannot reply to jv.

    • ONLY if you use the manual toothbrush correctly.

Using a manual toothbrush incorrectly (up and down) will cause your gums to recede.

  • -3

It's not very hygienic for your whole family to be using your toothbrush…

    • +1

Every person has their own brush head, they are even colour coded so you know which belongs to who.

    • LOL no what I meant was that my mum bought a new one for me. My family had 3 electric toothbrush before. I was the only one still using manual.

  • You can get bulk buys of heads on ebay very cheap.

    • I'd steer clear of the ebay ones.
There have been many reports of fake brush heads on there.

  • I just bought 8 oral B heads at ebay Australia for $11 + $2 shipping. They are genuine Oral B heades made in Ireland.
Search around. The 24 pack is even cheaper.

    • Link to your seller. I could search but rather use someone who delivers well like your guy.

    • +1

I'm sorry but it's just not possible that they are genuine at that price. They may be excellent counterfeits but taking into account eBay fees, Paypal fees, seller's profit he would have to be getting them for $5 an 8 pack. If they work for you that is fantastic but don't delude yourself that they are genuine.

      • THe seller is bideasy. He is not the only one selling at this price so shop around.
I know it is crazy that the Oral B brush heads are selling cheaper than an ordinary toothbrush but even if you search ebay in america or other countries, the price is the same, almost $1-$2.

  • The cheaper models use NiCad batteries and lasts around 2 years. Hi end models use NiMh and lasts a bit longer. I think it is printed on the body what battery it uses (mine has Nimh). For NiCad, just make sure you use it till it has no more juice before you re-charge it. NiMh batteries has no memory effect but it also pays to use it all up before re-charging it because in the end, the battery has limited number of cycles (charge-discharge) you can do. And do not overcharge. I only charge them for 8 - 10 hours. Do not believe that they have over-charge protection. Over-charging is the no. 1 killer of batteries !!

    • Although it would void your warranty, however if you needed to change the battery you could do it.
If i remember correctly Jaycar sells the battery.

  • Nice..Toothbrush deal right above the Mentos deal.
Guess some of you guys who bought the mentos deal from 1-day will find this deal useful..! ;D

  • BTW, I should mention that this is for the Triumph toothbrush which just has the charging stand and toothbrush with 2 heads. This doesn't include the wireless LCD Screen (which i find quite useless anyway), therefore I think this is a pretty good deal, unless you want to pay extra $50 to get a some what useless wireless LCD Display thing.

Also I think Chadstone has run out of them, they had two left this morning (7 June), I reserved one, and when I got to the shop, I saw none on the shelf.

    • The Melbourne CBD store has run out of them as well.

    • That would be me who bought the last :)

Funnily enough I was after 2. One for me, one for my brother. I asked the staff, he said I scored the last. The only Melbourne stores still stocking them are doncaster and another one I can't remember.

      Kudos to the original poster!

      • Just scored the last one at Highpoint Shopping Centre.

    • it's the ORAL B TRIUMPH 9500 DLX and just got one from Southland store.

  • i bought one of these in 1999 and its still going strong without any issues.

thats where "made in Germany" counts.

  • Southland still had about 8 left this afternoon.

  • Anyone know if david jones has this and would price match?

  • Doncaster I guess would be ideal seeing as they do have stock at the local shaver shop. Umm which model is it to be exact?

    Thx for that link Anthony!

    • Triumph Professional Care 9000 (unsure what exact model), looks EXACTLY the same as in this picture:
      http://www.amazon.com/Triumph-Professional-9950-Rechargeable…

But only includes, the charging stand, toothbrush, blue carry case, and 2x brush heads.

I will have to go home to check what the exact model number is.

      • thx for that.

Ye the model number will be good as Im looking to P.M this at david joens and use up an old christmas gift card.

        • Just tell them you want the Triumph Professional without smart guide.
They will know exactly what you mean.

    • it's the ORAL B TRIUMPH 9500 DLX

  • I was going to try a price match at Harvey Norman for an additional 10% of the difference. But the guy sounded so reluctant over the phone that I'd rather just go to the shaver shop and support the smaller guy.

  • Yeah this is one of the best you can buy. If your in WA there are some left in the garden city store. Picked one up just today.
