Nitecore i2

The Nitecore D4 is a universal smart charger compatible with almost all cylindrical rechargeable batteries. With LCD to display the status of power charging, the Smart Charger NiteCore D4 also comes with four battery slots, so it can charge four batteries at one time. The Nitecore D4 automatically detects Li-ion, Ni-MH and Ni-Cd batteries, and through manual selection is also capable of charging LiFePO4 batteries. Besides, it also provides reliable and overall protection for your batteries.

  • I've been using the D2 for the last couple of weeks, great little unit

  • +4

    How reliable is this store?

Ever since a mate of mine bought a Bose speaker (not from this store) that turned out to be fake, I've been concerned about how best to verify that a product is genuine.

Some places advertise the Nitecore chargers as having a verification code on the box (scratch it off, enter number at Nitecore's website) but not this one.

    • I hope it is genuine.
A lot of people post products from zapals so I just assume it will be genuine.

If not I will be trying to return it or get a refund via paypal (i hope).

    • +2

Yeh its a real problem. The nitecore fakes are a real cut above other fakes. As long as you pay with paypal though and you try the verification code once you get it you are covered through paypal if its a fake.

      • Still a pain to go through paypal…
        Can anyone confirm it's genuine?

        • +1

Cant say for sure mate. I was goin to get one like this then I read this from the last deal.

        • Going by other comments at least, zapals seem to have genuine stock. I'll post back when mine arrives, I just don't know when that will be

        • @peblos: did you receive your item yet?

        • @jayzorz: yeah I received it a few weeks back. Can't remember exactly but I think it took like 3 weeks to arrive. Genuine stock according to the product code under the scratchy panel

    • Only got freebies from them in the past, all have come though.

    • it's okay bought a usb OBD2 cable $20, delivery took longer than expected almost a month due to Chinese new year (ultimately not their fault just timing) but would prolly take 2-3wks pending on where you live. I wouldn't be thinking anything I would buy would be sent back for warranty. For < $30 I would chance it again, but not for a fake nitecore as mentioned above/below. For others items into the hundreds prolly not (with the exception of my One+1 phone).

that's the general deal for most Chinese items for me.If in doubt….then no.

Been using an i4 for the last 3yrs no problems for house batteries and 18650's (not from this seller though). My lot of Powerteck AA's from Feb.2013 are still in use as are the 18650's and only have been used in that charger.

    • +1

I recently bought a Nitecore i4 from zapals and it appears genuine: it had the scratch off verification code sticker on it. Though I haven't yet scratched / verified it…

      • +1

…And I have just tried to validate it & it says:

This code has been used for first-time validation at 03-01-2015 11:30 (UCT8) . If it was not operated by you, please contact the seller immediately to ensure your rights as a customer as well as the quality of the charger. Thank you.

        • So the code you tried to use was already validated by someone else in 2015?

        • Does that mean, it is non genuine?

        • @LGW: It appears to be that way. I opened a ticket with Zapals this morning, waiting for a reply…

        • +1

@Gaggy: Well I contacted Nitecore and they said:

Thank you for your interest in Nitecore's product, the product may be fake, I suggest you contact your seller for an explanation.

          Waiting for Zapal's response.

Hard to compare to the forum talking about the fake D4 charges, as I have an i4 model. It doesn't come with a nitecore branded power cable, however the power socket is branded and the battery terminals appear to be magnetic in the correct places (only).

        • hmmm… not good :(

I ordered the D4. Once I get it I will post if the verification is genuine

        • Yup I ordered a D2 before seeing spaij's post. Will report back when delivered.

        • @spaij:
After a bit of to & fro (between nitecore & zapals), nitecore advised me to open up the charger and look inside to check if it's genuine. It was in fact authentic.

So it seems that sometimes the validation check doesn't work as is supposed to.

        • what explanation did they give for the validation failure?

My i4 just arrived and it is saying the code was first validated at exactly the same time as yours. My code ends with 0107 8217. Was your code the same as this?

        • @mps41:
          Hmm… same validation code… not good…
          No explanation.

    • I placed my first order with Zapals a week ago and it's still sitting at processing. The same day I also ordered from Banggood and it shipped the next day and was delivered today!

D2 charger received last Friday from Zapals, verification sticker on the box.

      Validated successfully.

      • Just a question, what if the non genuine buyer buy few genuine stuff and copy the same code to most of their stock? Is it unique to each item and if the there is a way to check?

        • +1

You put your email address in, so it's linked to you:
          http://charger.nitecore.com/validation
And they warn you if it's been validated before.

        • +1

If you read the other comments in this post they say you enter the code to the nitecore website and it will tell you if it has been verified or used before.

You can also check this post to see what a fake would look like.
          http://budgetlightforum.com/node/44203

Also Other users have commented they received genuine nitecore chargers from zapals.

        • @karazy: Good to know. Will try one. Are I2 or I4 equally good or better to have D4 or D2? If D series have the display as benefit alone, I might get the I series. For now, I have been using standard everyready chargers to recharges diff. batteries : Eneloops, Duracell, Aldi ones, etc.

        • @Gaggy: The D2/4 have a Low Current mode for low capacity batteries (<750mAh), the I2/4 doesn't.

Plus these are the old I2/4 by the looks which are discontinued.

As a sidenote, the power cord supplied for AU in mine wasn't an 'authentic' Nitecore cord, (ie. not stamped Nitecore), but I'm not going to hold that against them :)

        • @4wd: Thanks Ordered D2 as mostly it is for xbox controllers.

        • @Gaggy: controllers cells. Hope it is genuine.

    • I'm fairly new to them but I've had a good run with zapals so far. I've placed 3 orders in the last 2 months with no issues and the products are legit.

    • Well, based on a combination of the ability to check after receiving it, and the back-up of PayPal, I've ordered. Will post here on receipt!

  • How does these compare to more expensive maha c9000 chargers in terms of charging AA and AAA?

    • +3

You're better off in the long run with the Maha.

    • As a casual user myself this charger makes more sense to me, or even the Ikea one, just pop the batteries in and know you'll get a good charge.

    • I have a Maha C900, and I have had it for probably five years (oh, and unrelated, sort of - 12v battery charging / CTEK rocks!)
It doesn't do Li-Ion, which is why I just ordered the D2 so I can actually have a view of Li-Ion charging for my headtorches!

The Maha is a little geeky for the wife and kids.
You need to put the battery in, select the slot, select charge, input the battery capacity manually - for them, its a PITA
For me, its easy. I have older gen Eneloops (probably at least five years old) - AAA charge to 700mah, AA to 1900mah

What the C900 is good at doing is making bad batteries better - the baby monitors destroyed AA battery capacity, so out comes the existing, a break in cycle later, and a refresh/analyse and they become great.
It also lets you match the batteries into like strength using the analyse function.

If I did it all over, I would probably do a la-cross or for a single unit Opus BT-3400

    • +1

I recently bought the i4 and one thing to note is that in the manual they don't recommend that you charge a single AAA or AAAA battery as the minimum current the charger provides is a little high for them (can shorten the life, IIRC).

I can't recall seeing this with any other charger, but maybe they don't bother to mention that. [I have a great little one that I bought from DX 5 or so years ago for like $11. It even has a refresh function, but it's only AA / AAA. And it probably didn't come with a manual mentioning limitations or at least not with this sort of detail…]

  • +1

These are great. Bought them 6 months ago and couldnt be happier

  • Been using the Aldi charger for a while which has been working fine…might grab one of these. Did have a Maha one but it cracked it after a year.

No point paying 100+ for another Maha.

  • +5

I bought a Liitokala Lii-500 last time when the D4 deal from Aliexpress was posted. It arrived last week and I'm really happy with it.

Compared to the D4 the Lii-500 has configurable charge current(300,500,700 1000mah) for each channel independently and has two capacity test functions and can be used as USB power bank with 3.7v batteries.

HJK gave it the thumbs up in review http://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20LiitoKala%20L…

They are about $20 AUD from Aliexpress but no power adapter is included (12v 2A).

This seller is the manufacturer/owner of Liitokala brand http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Liitokala-lii500-LCD-3-7V-1-2…

    • +1

      Whoa that's cheap.

I paid about $40 AUD for my XTAR VC4 which also has no power adapter, you're supposed to supply your own 5v 2Amp USB charger or hook it up to a USB port.

    • I bought this a few weeks ago and it got delivered on Friday. I haven't used it yet and I am sure it will work all well but my only concern so far is that it looks a bit cheap quality… :)

      • Did you buy it from Zapals?
Did it have a verification code and is it genuine?

        • Sorry I was talking about Liitokala charger and I bought it from AliExpress.

    • I bought one from the same Aliexpress seller last month too. Great unit for charging 18650 batteries :)

    • Hmm, whats a good cable for it?

    • I ended up buying one of these Liitokala Lii-500 from Aliexpress & very impressed with the display & test facility.

  • Are these fine with eneloops? My La Crosse BC700 Charger seemed to have stopped working. Connected the adapter to the charger and the display wouldn't turn on. A few hours later the display was black and the batteries were all melted. Display is no longer black but still won't turn on. Destroyed 4 eneloops in the process too.

    • I charged 4x AA standard eneloops on this without any issues. Its not a fast charger like the Panasonic Eneloop charger, but it did the job albeit slower. I've probably only charged them 3 times though but hopefully that helps.

    • Yep, its fine.

  • Thanks for this been watching these for awhile, now I need some high capacity (3400-3500maH) 3.7v 18650's

  • I use a Pure Energy Smart Charger on Eneloops, never had an issue, never burnt a battery and every Eneloop I've ever bought I'm still using. Unfortunately the Nova Scotia based Pure Energy business went to wall a few years back, so you won't be buying one of their chargers .. :-( .. !!

Edit: There are some Pure Energy chargers available on eBay …

  • How are these different from the ones you get from the dept stores or Bunnings?

    • +1

If you have to ask you arent ready to know!

  • anyone know a good place to get some CR123a's rechargable for these?

  • Can the D4 do 4 x 1A?

Edit: NVM. Found the specsheet and definitely don't want it now. Only does 4 x 375mAh

  • +9

The D4 is a great charger, had mine for a year or so. If this is genuine, it's an excellent price.

The fakes are excellent copies (cosmetically) but with this guide they aren't difficult to spot:

    http://budgetlightforum.com/node/44203

  • I got a D4 a few weeks ago. Are you meant to charge AAA Eneloops (750mAh) on 'Low Current Mode' using the D4?

    • +1

It says you can use low current mode for 700mah so should be fine. Id probably do it on low current mode.

  • Cheers man

  • +1

    Slapaz!

  • Paid AU$32 recently - Works well and quality build. Shipping was within a week.

  • +1

    ..dupe

  • Support says they are genuine so

    • +3

IF support says so then it must be true

      • LMAOROTF

  • My D4 has done about 200 cycles so far with eneloops, great charger.

  • I have a few 18650s, loads of eneloop AA & AAA batteries. Should I go for the I4 or the D4? I'm not sure what the difference is besides the display.

    • +1

There is no difference in the charging method between I4 and D4, it is only the display. I4 is just a bunch of LED and D4 has a pretty info visual display.

      • Thanks for that. Preferred a D4 then.

        • Yeh its good. Tells you more info.

      • I recently bought the i4 and one thing to note is that in the manual they don't recommend that you charge a single AAA or AAAA battery as the minimum current the charger provides is a little high for them (can shorten the life, IIRC).

The D4 has a low power mode for this situation.

    • You'd want a 4 x 1A charger for your 18650s. These Nitecores only do 4 x 375mAh.

  • I already have an older La Crosse BC-700 and a new acquired and awesome SkyRC MC3000 (Latest Hardware version). I assume this offers no new features I don't already have via the MC3000?

  • Been looking for a deal on the Nightcore Chargers. Cheers.

  • It appears that Nitecore have brought out a new i series chargers:

    http://charger.nitecore.com/product-category/i-series

Looking at the Zapals page, the ones they are selling are the "discontinued" ones.

Not sure if Nitecore will also bring out new D series soon too(which could explain the sale).

    • Like the look and functionality of the new series. Thanks for the heads up.

  • UPDATE - Prices have been reduced for all models

  • Doesn't the photo on the Zapals website indicate that it is a fake?
Looking at the "how to spot a fake" website:
    http://budgetlightforum.com/node/44203
…. it seems to indicate that it should have the word "Nitecore" in the yellow power socket, whereas the zapals photo doesn't have this.

  • Anyone even receive a confirmation email yet? I'm yet to receive one.

    • Yes, received a confirmation email quite quickly on Sep 12. Haven't received a shipping email yet.

      • Can you let me know when you do? I'll have to email them if I still haven't received an email by the time it should've been shipped.

        • +1

Just received the shipping email. Says 7-15 business days to arrival.

        • +1

Also just received my shipping email.

  • +1

Mine still stuck on processing. Will email them about the status. Their live chat never seems to have anyone tending to it.

  • +1

Received the charger. Validated successfully at nitecore.com so should be genuine. Charging first batteries now.

  • +1

Also Received my charger. Validated successfully at nitecore.com and passes all the checks from http://charger.nitecore.com/product/digicharger-d4.

So I am happy it is genuine.

Now to put it to use.

  • +1

All good with the D2. Thanks OP

  • +1

    Arrived today, will check shortly.

    • +1

      Validation checks out…yay

  • My charger also appears to be genuine, even though the validation check failed. Details
