  • Harvey Norman have both the screw and bayonet for the same price (both packs and bulbs) - makes the bayonet ones cheaper at Hardly Normal.

    • Ah that explains the price drop, thank you I'll add that in. You'll be able to price beat the bayonet ones at Officeworks then for $81.70 & $30.40 after the 5% off.

      • -5

5% off the difference for price beating at OW, not 5% off total price.

        • Lowest price guarantee

If the identical product can be purchased and delivered via an online store for a total price lower than the one we are offering, we will beat that total price by 5%.

        • Edited.

Your calcs are right. Good job.

        • @PoorStudent: Harvey Norman are an online only store? Wow, better go tell Gerry Harvey that.

And no you're wrong, they beat whatever the price of the competitor is by 5%, so Hamza's calculations are right.

  • Great deal. I have a few different wemo products although ended up with the more expensive Philips hue range to get homekit compatibility. No sign of Belkin adding homekit integration any time soon either. Such a shame.

    • Wemo are discontinued products by Belkin. That's why retailers are clearing their stock-on-hand.

      • This is not true. Checked Belkin website and with customer service.
They are not discontinued products at all!

        • +1

They are. As a retailer, the Wemo products are considered legacy stock and Belkin will not supply them anymore. Also, check shangoz. Looks discontinued even in the USA.

Sorry to be lazy, but any deals on the multi-coloured/colour changing bulbs?

  • +1

So can I ask what most people use these for? Can I still turn them on and off like a normal switch or do I have to constantly use the app? And is the motion detection a whole separate thing?

    • +1

I have Lifx bulbs, which I imagine would be reasonably similar. Most of these bulbs need to be powered on all the time of you want to control them from your phone. You can switch them on and off at the light switch, but if it's off, then it's no different to an ordinary light bulb….

Personally, I keep mine in lamps rather than replacing the main room lights. Then I just leave the lamps switched on all the time, but can use the actual room lights normally still.

For me, the value is integrating with something like IFTTT. For instance, mine automatically switch on at sunset. I recently went away, so I set them to switch on and off at night, to simulate someone being home. Little things like that make these smart bulbs great imo.

      • Ya been meaning to look into IFTTT. At the moment I use a cheapo timer and USB hub to power some low power 1-2W USB LED chips that give enough light to see in the dark.

Have you done anything more advanced with the lights?

        • Not yet, haven't yet had a need to tinker with much else other than IFTTTs suggested recipes. Though I've played with a few interesting recipes, like making the lights flash certain colours when you receive a phone call, text message etc.

          @yellowknight too

I have my home set up with Wemo fairly heavily.

          • Use IFTTT on phone, with geofence. If I leave my estate, it'll turn off all house lights.
          • Motion detector in garage - whole house turns on for x minutes when car pulls up between sunset/sunrise. Kitchen stays on. Etc.
          • Ability to hook into Jawbone/Fitbit, to turn house off when asleep, on gently when waking. IFTTT for this.
          • Front door has a motion detector which turns on porch light for a minute. Great for greeting guests, entering house, letting cat inside.
          • I have a disco light connected to a Wemo powerpoint.
          • If you so require, you can even do things like this: if my dining lamp is dimmed below 10%, post a status on FB saying "Got a girl over ;)", etc.

Pretty much, I don't need to touch wall switches much at all. I wake up, get ready for work, leave the house - all turns off. I get home, all turns on, then automatically off and I'm still lit up to make dinner.

Don't buy these. I have both wemo and the latest Philips Hue. The Hue is much, much better. It is (as above) HomeKit compatible, and the app is better and they work with Amazon echo without the IFTTT work around. You can't even buy a wall switch for the smart bulbs, they only sell wall switches for regular bulbs. I have some wemo gear that I barely used (I swapped it for hue), if anyone wants to buy it. Including an unused wall switch, 3 E27 and a bayonet bulb. Not a good sell I know, but maybe someone wants them in Melbourne.

  • +4

I got these too. Not responsive and not smooth to use. But still works. Read reviews on app.

  • Great deal, but be aware that you may not be able to operate different sets of lights attached to different WIFI networks (e.g. Office and home)

I found this the hard way recently with the WEMO switches… Workaround was to have an app on my iPhone, and a different download of the same app on my iPad to control the switches at different locations. I haven't had direct experience with the lights, but I suspect that the same issue will apply.

BELKIN have been aware of this issue for the past 2 years, stating that a fix is coming, but it hasn't materialised yet, and it does not seem to be on their priority list. See the discussion thread below:

  • Am i a prick for suggesting that i paid 30 bucks each for two Yeelight RBGW bulbs i have at home. No link needed easy setup via wifi.

  • in amazon.com, it say this package discontinued by manufacture. so prize 50% off, around US$ 53 per pack,
    https://www.amazon.com/WeMo-Lighting-Starter-Discontinued-Ma…
and it only got 60W, 120W, most of the time not bright enough.

  • +1

    120W, you'd be blinded!

  • Thise in the know about this….is there a good value powerpoint switch you can recommend, not just wifi bulbs?

    • Wemo has a powerpoint

  • If it doesn't include the latest Telink IOT chip (which it doesn't) then its just another branded "smart" light that is only smart enough to intergrate into its own ecosystem.
    ADRC.

  • So this is the new 'normal' price?

    • +1

It doesn't appear so, it's 40 percent off at Harvey Norman and Officeworks is matching that (to avoid having to do price beats).

  • +1

Been using these since the Dick Smith fire sale. Pretty useless on their own with the WeMo app but there is a third party widget for notification centre on iOS, and if you are feeling fancy it is possible to run your own HomeKit server to give yourself HomeKit compatibility.

  • Do bunnings carry the starter kits? They do have some other stuff. Potential 10% price beat on that.

    • I don't think so: search results.

Although they have in the past, deal post.

      • They don't list everything on their website I have found.

  • Thanks. Just price matched some extra globes for my kit at officeworks
