You can also dim the lights to create the perfect ambience in the room.
There is a gradual dim feature so you can fall asleep in a natural way.

You can use the Simulated Occupancy feature to turn your lights on and off automatically to give the solution that you're home even when you're not.
The system is easy to set up so you can get started right away.

Personally I use LIFX smart bulbs, as they have been cheaper, but at this price the Wemo's are also a good buy.

Have this and the lifx … personally prefer the lifx ones (v1) that were about $40 each.

  • where did you find the lifx for $40?

  • LIFX work well and they don't need a hub. Also you can adjust the white tone between warm (orange white) to cool (blue white).

I got 5 x LIFX White 800 (the newer model) for $149USD last November. So around $40 AUD each.

  • Price beat at Bunnings?

  • Awesome. Just curious (and in all seriousness), what are people using these for? I am trying to (in the spirit of ozb) find a purpose for these.

I bought mine for storing in the back room. They are doing a great job…I'm well pleased with their efforts.

(Bought 3 of these packs during the DSE run-out sale…..cheaper than buying a single globe at the time.)

Speaking of smart-lights in general - I currently do 2 simple things with mine (there are heaps of things you can do)

      • at sunset (and that changes by a minute or so each day) 1 of my 2 lounge lights comes on automatically - makes it look like someone is home and so the cat isnt left in the dark.

      • whenever I open and close the garage door downstairs, the 2 lounge lights flash red (for opening) or green (once closed) before going back to their previous state (on or off). Wifey knows Im home so she can unlock the door for me (if Im lucky).

Most of the time we run the lights on 50% brightness as thats fine - but if you need extra brightness they are really good at 100%.

Very interesting. However, let me ask… how much setup is required to program such tasks? Do you need some kind of server / pc always on to manage these tasks?

        • No the LIFX globes store schedules internally it seems?

It's all doable by the smartphone app.

      • Cats like the dark, why so mean? :o

  • Pardon the n00b question, but if you install these as a normal room light, does that mean you have to leave the switch to "on" permanently, and can only control the light using the app?

    • You can control (on/off) from a regular switch, just like a regular bulb.

You need to keep switch on if you wish to use the smart features.

      • Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Thanks.
