Samsung 850 EVO 500GB $180 / Sandisk 480GB SSD Plus $156 @ PC Byte

190
CSUN20

Previously cheapest @ ~$169 AUD for grey import. But this is as cheap as lyl's post back at the end of may for local stock.

The Sandisk is also $156. Unsure if this is the old MLC version or the new TLC version. Although the 240GB is ever so slightly better value.

Thanks to hamza23 for pointing it out that the code works for PC Byte Storage too.

So is the Samsung an internal drive or an external one?

Would be good for editing videos.

      internal

  • It's tempting but it's really not an amazing price though

I've had a bad experience with PC Byte, so not too sure if i'll bite…

Me too. I wouldn't buy from them again no matter what the price was.

      It's not worth the hassles.

Mate, ordered RAM two weeks ago, not received, I messaged them today, they tell me NOW it's not in stock, but shows as available STILL on their eBay page. Poor form, they'll be getting a neg.

        • I sent back an item that wouldn't work and after giving me the run around for a few weeks they completely stopped replying to my emails.

Ebay found in my favour and refunded the money, eventually.

  • Great drive, highly recommend.

    • The Samsung or SanDisk?

  • What's wrong with PC Byte (I've never used them).

Seems the normal price for 500GB EVO is over $200, so $20 - $40 off is ok.

Irrespective of the vendor, I would certainly recommend paying $180 for the Samsung rather than saving $24 for the Sandisk.

If you want the equivalent to the Sandisk, you should compare with Samsung 750 EVO rather than the 850 series.

PC Byte are out of stock of 750's in this size range, they only have the 120GB.

Thanks OP, bought the 500gb evo.

  • Having issue's with the SSD. Even bought a usb-sataIII cable to make sure it wasn't just a faulty internal SATAIII cable.

Not sure why, but the drive can t be seen by Windows 7 My Computer , but can be seen in Diskpart and Device Manager. Samsung Magician can see it, but won't let me access tools. Says it's not initialised. When I try to initialise it, Windows says it can't as it has a Cyclic Redundancy Check . Hard Disk Sentinel Pro 4.7 says the disk is 100% fine (but it's just a checker, it doesn't initialise or fix CRCs). I've trawled through the internet looking for a fix, but nothing I've tried will fix the CRC, so I can then initialise it and then copy the OS to it.

PC Byte didn't respond to a Return/Replace request via Ebay on the 8th, so I messaged them directly today and they claimed not to have seen that request. I've sent the above details to them again and wait to see what they say.
