WD Elements 1.5TB Desktop Hard Drive $138 Delivered or Pickup at DSE

102

I am in the market for a 1.5TB or 2TB external hard drive and saw that I missed the $128 1.5TB drive from DSE a few weeks ago :(

They are now selling the drive for $138 with free delivery or you can just pick it up in store for that price too.

I will be picking mine up from a DSE store unless someone spots a better priced 1.5TB or 2TB external drive that can be picked up from near me or includes delivery.

    • For external drives ?

Why neg it because of warranty? if it is better price than anywhere else why does it matter, 12 months is okay, more the better.

    • So you think the drive would fail after a year? What brand external drive shoul I be getting and how much does it cost?

    • When I see a good deal with negative, I am always interested in what the explanation of the neg.

I know that Asus motherboard, notebook carries 3 years warranty from Asus, but the shop, such as OfficeWorks, Austin only offers 1 year. The rest of the 2 years falls back to Asus. Maybe this WD Elements also does the same?

    • Im sure it has a WD Green drive in it which has a 3 year warranty anyway.

  • Does it have a proper sata connection inside?

  • Officeworks has the 1TB one for $95… this seems like normal pricing?

    EDIT $128 at Umart.

This is bog standard pricing, a little more expensive than some other places. Why is it a deal?

Thanks for the post tantryl DSE now sell it for $128 after price matching umart. I can't go to umart as it is not near me and postage doesn't make it a good deal anymore.

$138 and not having to pay postage is still a good price if you search staticice.

The drive also has a 3 year warranty unlike what the person above stated.

  • Vote down as price is not really at a bargain level

    not a bargain.

  • when usb 3.0 becomes universal, these usb 2.0 devices will go down in price like crazy. Dont buy a hard drive unless u really need it. If you just care about the space and not the speed, then wait a month or two.

    • It is going to be an easy choice between a cheap USB2 drive and an expensive USB3 drive
Then you are going to need a new PC to use or at the very least a USB3 PCI card which not everyone will be able to fit without voiding their warranty.

      • yeah same. i dont mind the time as i dont move large volumes of files regularly between HD. i think we'll see 2tb for ~120-130 very soon.

        • finger cross! i hope you are right i will wait :)

  • This might be on sale because I can't find it listed on Seagate for Australian region anymore.
I realized it might be an EOL product as I was searching to see how many years for warranty.
AFAIK, Seagate Elements - 1year, Freeagent - 3years(current models), 5years(last years model and before).

    • It's not Seagate Elements, it's Western Digital Elements. It definitely says 3 year limited warranty on my box, not 1 year which was pointed out to me by the DSE salesperson when I questioned the 1 year warranty.

Though it does say 1 year for America here http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/AAG/ENG/4178-705026.pd…

We must be getting extended warranty in Australia.
