Save your money on the kit lens, buy the Camera by itself

There's also a new standard zoom lens being released next month…

    • Damn, didn't realise it was on sale too.

      Added to OP.

  • Is this better than the 70D ?

    • +2

      It's 10 better

      • +1

        10 what though ? D's ???

        • Yep, do you want one?

        • @Spackbace:

No thanks… Only settled for straight A's…

    • Same Canon old shit with different name.

        Thanks son…

  • For that price it is so disappointing it doesn't have 4k recording. Also can anyone comment on what lens is good for bird/wildlife photography? I am considering getting my first SLR camera. What are the kit lens options good for?

For birding and wildlife you want longer focal legnths. Something like the canon 100-400mm there's Tamron and sigma 150-600 which many use as it's versatile and certainly cheaper than the big canon glass.

For the money in lenses and the body, may aswell just get the Sony RX10 Mk3. Long range and great video to boot.

Sony A6300 or Sony A6000 would be my choice! For your 'first' SLR camera - you want a camera that you actually use and not leave at home because it is too big.

"The best camera is the one you have with you".

      • Yes I do like that and the A7 as well. I know very little about cameras so will do a bit of research before deciding, maybe around Christmas time. I want something that will WOW me and be a huge upgrade over smartphone (Galaxy S6 camera) so I can take pictures worthy of hanging on the wall, and also something that is good for travel.

        • You'll find it is not going to be the camera that will do that - it will be all up to you and if you take the time to shoot in 'manual' mode, learn how to use 'adobe lightroom' or a similar software.

The camera is important - but using a 10 year old dslr could probably still achieve a very similar result as the new cameras do.

You'll find these new cameras will help you in features such as focusing, usability, quality/durability… at the end of the day if you have good light, a tripod and you use a entry level DSLR vs a high end DSLR - there is going to be very little difference in your final image.

It's really about how you use your equipment and not what you have. A chef who has the best knives/pots/pans doesn't always cook the best food! Good luck mate ;)

        • I want something that will WOW me

That takes learning and then practice, practice, practice and practice.

          It's all about the lenses…

          @gddg:

It's important - but I've taken great landscape photos with the kit lens…for your first camera, get to your limit using the kit lens. Then spend the money and understand what type of lens you are buying and why.

Good light and being creative with light is much more important.
