Somewhat unrelated (although at least part of the UHDTV20 coupon), why does the Hisense 70" UHD TV come with a bonus socket set?

What kind of market executive was sitting there reviewing the deal offers and thought "Yep, a free socket set with a 70" TV. That'll reel them in!"

      free repair kit

    • fathers day? thats a hell of a gift though

  • Great TV, but too expensive. Will only pay 2.5K before Xmas.

Yeah you wish, maybe will go down to that level for the X8500D, but certainly not this…

These TVs could be 1/2 price in December when the new models are announced.

  • Is the above Hisense 70" any good? It was reported using the same Quantum Dot colour gamut tech as the top tier LG and Samsung TVs.

    • +1

I'm fairly sure I read that the Hisense HDR TVs do not meet the 10 bit colour standard that the premium brands have agreed upon. Hence the coliur gamut is not as impressive. Dolby HDR is 12 bit.
It's all very difficult to understand.

  • Any X9400D models?

  • Issues I have have found with Sony TVs in the past

    • No PVR

    • Slow "smart TV"

    How does this rate?

  • What's the sweet spot re price?

There wasn't much love for the Panasonic 65inch UHD TV on ozbargain which went for close to $2000 (after cash back) from the good guys last year.

Surely this Panasonic is a better buy for $2,892 (incl delivery): https://www.videopro.com.au/p-9585-panasonic-viera-65-th65dx…

  • So tempting… In the market for a new TV, just don't know if I should wait till next year to see if Sony releases a model with FALD and Dolby Vision. :/

    • +2

I went to Harvey Norman the other day and saw all the tvs on displayed… Damn I should've just waited abit longer and went with oled.

This Sony tv also looked really really good so it would've been this or the LG's, best advice is to just go into stores and see it for yourself.

I bought my tvs online blindly and wished I had forked out that little bit more.

      • Yeah, I've had a quick look at both. The crushed blacks and double cost of the current OLED models put me off a bit. I don't doubt that in a few years they'll refine the tech further and bring the cost of manufacturing down, but I'd be happy with a decent FALD set in the meantime.

The biggest annoyance at the moment is the HDR format war, it's like today's Bluray vs HD DVD/VHS vs Betamax. Not many manufacturers support DV yet and Dynamic HDR10 hasn't been finalised, so we don't know if it can be delivered over a firmware update or not. Just hesitant to spend several k on something that's not very future proof.
