  • This might be a silly question but are these used in older cars or are people installing them in modern cars?

    • A bit of both I imagine. A lot of modern cars just need an adapter/spacer to fill the shape that the stock head unit takes up.

It can be more tricky through - my 2005 falcon for example has the air con/heater etc integrated in to the same unit as the stereo so a swap isn't really possible.

      • you can install into falcon 2005,there is a facia kit for the tissue tray area for a after market unit.

        • as posted before, you don't even need that. Remove the "tissue box holder", cut to fit radio, finish using the bezel supplied with the radio.

Like other models, the buttons on this are ridiculously small, and you have to look down to operate .
          Thats going to kill someone.

    • Older cars are fine mine is 1996. It's only an issue if the radio is integrated into a specialised dashboard facia. They also sell car specific harness adapters if you don't like soldering.

  • Ah Kenwood, the absolute KING of sound quality in the 'consumer' brands. Nice deal.

  • +1

How does this compare, to say, the Sony MEXN5150BT, which seems to go on sale at JB HiFi for a similar price?

Really need to upgrade to BT, my 3.5mm jack is getting seriously abused :/

    • It has NFC as well, and the extra money also goes into Pandora support. Apart from that, its all the same but a $100 difference isn't to me justifiable.

      • I'm happy to wait until the MEXN5150BT goes on sale for ~$150 again, which is seems to be every 6 months or so. Just need to keep an eye on it!

        Thanks.

    • Got it and installed today; turns out this kenwood has Pandora and iheartradio support as well. So its on par with the Sony.

    • I ended up getting the Sony from JB, was only the 2nd one left, apparently he'd sold like 8 that day.
