Saeco Bravista MAP Pod Coffee Machine with Milk Frother $69 @ Costco (Membership Required)

60

Saeco Bravista Espresso coffee machine with milk frother included for $69 at Costco. Uses MAP coffee pods which are $31.49 for 80 (40 cents each) also in Costco. They have chocolate pods too which seem to be on special for $14.97 for 80 (19 cents each).

I saw these machines last week and thought they looked like a bargain, especially with the milk frother included. Cheaper than the Aldi machines anyway. Then today when I stopped by the Good Guys I noticed they were clearing the same machines for $249. I had a play with one and they looked to be really good quality.

Made in Romania with a Phillips two year worldwide warranty.

  • Got it home and tried it. Awesome coffee. Better than my flash automatic machine I spent a fortune on. Turns out they also come in white which I've picked up thinking they were all black. White looks really good and I'll keep it.

  • Hi, can you tell me how this machine is as compared to others? I.e Nespresso and the Breville espresso makers? It looks like a bargain, I might get it. It'll be my first coffee machine. Any info would be helpful

    • From using it I'd say it's as good as a Nespresso for flavour except I don't think MAP has the extensive range of flavours that Nespresso has. I don't see this as a huge negative though because what I tasted so far (medium flavour) was full bodied and smooth. Actually the best pod I've ever tried. I own a café and we only use one type of coffee beans and everyone seems happy.

I do know that the Aldi coffee pods are the same shape and size as MAP pods but I'm not sure on compatibility. I'll try some tomorrow and see if they work. From what I tasted though, the MAP coffee tasted better than any Aldi flavour I've tried before.

Like all pod machines, the size of coffee served is as it would be in a cafe. A small glass for a latté, not a giant mug. If you want a mug it's two pods per coffee.

The milk frother worked a dream with no milk stuck to the bottom after using. Just take off the little spring on the milk aerator to make a latté rather than a cappuccino. My old Aldi one used to stick quite badly. I reckon the Saeco milk frother would probably cost $70 if you found them for sale on their own.

The quality of the whole unit looks to be first rate and worth $300. It just goes to show how much markup shops put on things if Costco can sell them for $69.

      • I've just been reading about Aldi pods in MAP machines and it doesn't sound like a good idea at all. Much better filters in MAP pods and more robust pods themselves. Because of this the MAP pods make better coffee apparently. I'd agree. The crema was superb on the MAP pod in the MAP machine. Just buy the MAP pods. So long as Costco keep stocking them for a reasonable price I'll be very happy.

I agree - whilst having a good range of pod flavours (strengths) is good, ultimately most people settle on one or two that they like.

I only drink Espresso and find the Nespresso pods not that good. I used to think they were the best, but after sampling some other third party pods I've found others that are much smoother and don't have a bitter/odd aftertaste.

Overseas I've had the illy pods and I've found them to be the best.

        • I think Illy make the best but most expensive coffee. If love to see their pods here.

        • @chrisburnett:

Same. When I first experienced their pod machine (hotel overseas), I came back and looked into it more. Whilst you could buy the machines and pods online, they weren't the cheapest and I didn't think it was worth it.

Surprised they haven't pushed their pod machines harder. You can buy illy coffee in the supermarkets.

    • Same, thanks for the reviews, was there some stock left? I'm heading there at midday tomorrow ;)

No shortage of them at Costco. A small mountain of them in the kitchen appliance aisle. Kids are loving the hot chocolate pods.

  • Awesome mate, in my way there now :-)

  • Not many left at Costco Casula. There were around 5 of them left when I went there.

    • Hopefully they'll be part of the regular range. That way they'll keep the coffee pods in stock too.

  • Hi, could someone recommend any good coffee pods ? I just tried the Nespresso intensity 10 pods at work. They tasted amazing.

Was wondering if we could use the same on this machine

  • Only Caffitaly pods work properly. There's a few brands of them at the supermarket. Aldi pods are the same size but with different filter system. Don't use them.

  • In Australia, Woolworths and Gloria Jeans promote and make their own capsules exclusively for the system, with the latter also selling Gloria Jeans branded machines. Coles also currently make their own capsules for the machine under the "Mr. Barista" brand name. From Wikipedia.
