    • Thanks, pal. I am just to search for a deal early next year to Europe….

    Pisashita

  • awesome!

  • +3

It would seem the cheap fares are only valid for departures up to March 28th. That's a lot less exciting than June 30th…

    • Better not fly any Australian airline either then.

    • +1

Yeah let's support those company that sell electronic devices that were made in China by Chinese kids instead

    • +2

      How about $8?

    • -6

Qatar is only interested in your money, they do not give a damn (and I'm being polite) about human rights, religion, etc. They already own half of France, they wear their towel heads, bathrobes and veils for PR but do their business in suit and tie.

      • +5

What are you talking about? Who let you on the internet?

      • +1

        More racism allowed here. Great.

Like Australia gives a damn to begin with. Smh.

Flew on their new aircraft via Adelaide, amazing experience for the price. Plane is very nice and good for the distance, whilst it is a long trip, at this price it's an absolute steal.

I remember only 2yrs ago if you got to London for <$1700 you were doing well.

    • +2

The A350 is an amazing aircraft, just a pity they are bleeding money on that route, I don't think it will be around much longer.

    • +2

I'll be flying Adelaide to Doha (and onto Europe) on the A350 this week. Very much looking forward to it. What was the load factor like on your flight? Qatar Airlines sent me an email offering an upgrade to business class for $1200 on the first leg, but I declined. Maybe they're having trouble filling the planes?

      • The load factor on the route is around 20% (!) and they are already reducing the flights from daily to 5 per week.

        • Hmm, interesting. I've just done a bit of searching and found a load factor figure of 35%. That's pretty damn poor any way you look at it, but nice for passengers (until flights start getting canned). The seat selection map for my flight had about 20 seats free. Don't know whether this means they're all taken, or reserved for selection for higher paying customers.

  • Tried to find $1190 for MEL-LHR but even flying out mid May returning mid June will cost about $1400 :(

    • That is still pretty cheap comparing few years back.

      • Not when I'm looking for $1200 flights… also, I went this year for $1050 around Easter time.

    • One trick is to avoid flying out of the UK because their departure tax makes Rtn flights to UK more expensive than other EU destinations.

Try open-jaw, maybe take the train to Paris or Brussels or even Amsterdam after a city break, then fly back to Oz from there.

  • Multi city not work? Tried multiple combinations in April/May to x City and returning from somewhere else, get the flight is full =/

The date on the main page is incorrect.

The actual dates are more limited. The rules for the cheapest fare (economy) show these dates:
    2.Fares are valid for departures from 18th September - 24th November 2016 or 13th January - 28th March 2017

    • +1

Fixed thanks, seems they have the incorrect dates everywhere (in email and sale page also).

      • +1

Yeah, not your fault. Just annoying when they make it look more open-ended than it is. (On the bright side, at least it could be found in the rules; sometimes it's even harder to find what dates actually apply.)

    • damn, you're right. The dates I want to fly on land within those dates :(

  • Such amazing prices…I'm thinking about going October-17 so have to patiently wait for that time period to be part of upcoming promotions.

Just a note about Qatar Airlines and Cash Rewards. When I booked an airfare earlier this month to Europe the Cash Rewards cashback was not calculated on the full fare component. It was $200 less than it should have been (I'm not including taxes, levies, surcharges, etc here). I queried this with CR and they sent off a note to the airline, and in the meantime increased the expected cash back.

    • how much you ended up getting from cashreward? i paid $2500 for 2 return tickets and it seems that only $1036 is eligible for cashreward, $1464 is the so called taxes+surcharges which is not eligible for cashreward, is it normal?

      • Same here. I raised an inquiry with CR.

        • Please let me know how it goes with your inquiry, thanks. they quoted me $960 at first and changed it to $1036 after I contacted them on Facebook

  • STA is a dollar cheaper on many of these fares and Flight Centre will beat STA by a Dollar or you can use CR with STA (Just some other options)

    • Thanks, good option for some. Looks like CR on Qatar directly pays higher though, 1.6% vs 0.8% at STA.

      • Yes you are correct - good for people who like a physical travel agent or have gift cards etc.

I'll poke around and see if I can find any significantly cheaper fares. Nonetheless really good fares to Europe (esp. some more obscure places)

        • -1

The STA website isn't a physical travel agent, it's a website. Though I don't think you really understand travel if you'd prefer it - no benefits, plenty of downsides.

        • @callum9999: Don't STA offer the same rates in store?

        • @blighst: It wouldn't surprise me if they did (though last I checked - many years ago - they added a fee for flight only bookings), but they certainly don't offer Cashrewards.

        • @callum9999: That is true. Flight centre will beat them nonetheless so if you want savings now and not a cashback in the future they'll be the best bet.

  • Can you do open jaw flights with this?

  • I was looking at a return from Adelaide to Edinburgh from the end of April to the start of May. It's still over $100 cheaper than a week ago. 1460 return is pretty Damn cheap

  • +1

Nice surprise here on my card statement. 3 percent intl.transaction fee, looks like the merchant does not process the transaction in Australia. (Citibank)

    • Email QA and ask for a refund of the fee. You're buying an airfare from Australia, on a com.au website, in Australian dollars, and the transaction description is "QATAR AIR INTERNET AU". Tell them you reasonably expected no foreign transaction fees. You never know your luck.

      • I will try that. Thanks

Had the same issue with Google store and bought with AUD but they refuse refund these tax evading greedy people. They say it is not their charge, it is a bank charge.

Citibank recommendation is to check with each merchant first before purchasing.

That is totally unrealistic. I'll leave them soon.

        • Never use Citibank for international transactions, use 28 deg or Bankwest. I only use my Citibank for overseas ATM withdrawals.

        • @lainey13: Yes, I used my BankWest credit card when buying a Qatar airfare and avoided the fee. The business may claim it's not their fee, it's the bank's, but as far as the customer is concerned they are making a reasonable assumption that the purchase denominated in AUD$ will be without extra fees.

The same thing annoyed me about PayPal and NAB. PayPal takes a hefty cut when converting a foreign currency to AUD$, then NAB would lump another 3% on top of the already converted AUD$ total. Ridiculous.

"This is a companion fare and the price quoted is per person, and only for two (2) people travelling together on the same itinerary and booking. Minimum two (2) people and maximum eight (8) people per booking. Book between 29th August and 5th September 2016"

You have to book at least two tickets…

  • I thought these are return prices? Thought Sydney - Amsterdam return was $1045 as per the table but when did the actual booking it came up to $1880.34!

EDIT: Bah it's for 2-8 people. Defeats the purpose for me :( Still good prices for more than one though.

Can this at least be in the title?

    • All these sale fares are still available for 1 person, it just adds a little to the fare. Eg here is a random single fare for Sydney to Amsterdam, probably some a bit cheaper:

      Tue , 20 Sep 2016
      21:50 SYD
      Sydney , AU
      Arrival Wed , 21 Sep 2016
      13:10 AMS
      Amsterdam , NL
      Tue , 25 Oct 2016
      18:00 AMS
      Amsterdam , NL
      Arrival Thu , 27 Oct 2016
      19:35 SYD
      Sydney , AU
      1,130.54 AUD

Alot of flights are sold out and not all dates are available but there are still quite a few there for single or companion.

Thanks Mod. I scored Adelaide>Athens for $968.10 return via BestJet, leaving right at the end of March… hoping for some warm weather in Santorini!

  • This ends on Monday, and I get paid on Monday. Does anyone know when on Monday the sale will finish? I'm really hoping it's later in the day!

    • +1

It will be midnight so you will be right, as long as the fares you want don't sell out.

      • Thanks!

The fare I want just dropped another $100 from yesterday. I'm tempted to do a money shuffle and bite the bullet.

  • It is even cheaper via Kuala Lumpur

    KUL-AMS - $499 return
    http://iwantthatflight.com.au/flight.ashx?&oc=KUL&dc=AMS&dd=…

Add about $350-400 for SYD-KUL and you will end up at $850-900 for SYD-AMS.

  • if you got hit with an international transaction fee then call your card issuer and get it reversed. Westpac just had to pay 20million back.

I called Citibank and they reversed the $280 odd dollars without a fuss. I tried that before but they would not budge but since then these news broke and they refunded it promplty.
