The Panasonic Eneloops that Dick sold was made in China. These ones from Amazon are Made in Japan, much better. These are the ones to buy.

It's based on a reputation the Eneloops built over many years.
Japanese made eneloops were incredibly reliable performers even after dozens/hundreds of cycles and years of use and abuse, based on reports from hundreds/thousands of people.
I think most people just assume them moving to a different lower cost factory in China will inevitably result in a drop in reliability.

They've recently come to Ikea AU. $9 for 4 AA rechargeable batteries, highly suspected to the rebranded Eneloop Pros/Fujutsus. Capacity of 2450mah and LSD.
TL;DR: Great batteries, great price, strongly would recommend. Maybe I should make a post on this.
Unfortunately they don't post and it wouldn't be worth the 1000km drive to the nearest store.

I'm not keen of the Lacross. Every socket on mine charges differently. But on the + side it's done a lot of work and has lasted. Maybe better to try one of the others.
