  • good find

  • Nice… but no way I'd be paying $94 for this.

      It's $66.

What's this like compared to Johnny walker red?

    • +2

My view on the two is that Glenlivet is a little milder than JW red. JW red has a bit more peatier aroma/taste. I like both.

This is like comparing apple juice with orange juice. They are both different tastes and it falls to personal preference as to which tastes the best. You may decide you like both.

The world would be a boring place if every scotch tasted the same.

Try each one and make up your own mind if you like it or not.

I'm sorry but Red doesn't even get close to the complexity of Glenlivet 15YO, this dram is so smooth and has a great palate and a good ending and you can definitely feel the contrast if you drink these two one after another. Just my two cents though, I know tastes can differ

          Agree with your comments enzio.

  • How much coke should I be mixing with this?

    • +3

If you want something to mix with coke this is what you seek:-
      The Ultimate Coke Mixer

    • +1

depends if it's full strength coke, Diet Coke, coke life, or Coke Zero . also,if you open fresh cans or have skimped and are using a bottle and the Coke is partially flat.

    • +1

you don't mix single malts, period! It's good either neat or with rocks, you can put a bit of water or some soda for some drams to open up. If you are looking for something to mix with coke, you can't go wrong with the recent Gentleman Jack offer.

      • +1

How many rocks should i put in the glass? Will any sort do?

        • You do not want rocks that absorb any kind of moist substance.

    • Mix your coke with bourbon. Makes both drinks better.

  • -2

Mate the coke would be the highlight a notch above mentholated spirits this scotch

    • +3

I'm having a hard time understanding this comment, do you mean that if you mixed this with coke, the coke would be the highlight?

    • mentholated spirits

Hmmm… maybe you're onto something here? A new concept: adding menthol to spirits? Might work better with vodka than scotch though. Actually, maybe it isn't a new thing? They probably do this already with schnapps.

  • Good deal. Bought a Glenlivet 18yo from Japan last time I went there and it was about $54 worth in yen there. Was expecting big things but a little disappointed with the 18yo, so not going to try the 15yo.

    • I'm with you on this - great deal, but not that great a product. When I first started out with whiskies it was with the fairly common Glenlivet and Glenfiddich, and I thought they were great. Nowadays though I find that there are much better (but still common / easy to find) whiskies that have similar qualities that are generally 'nicer'. I know that whisky is all about personal preference, but these days I find a much better product in a $60-$80 bottle of Balvenie, Dalwhinnie, Glenkinchie, Glenfarclas.

      • I agree, Balvenie is awesome, at that price point Aberlour 12yo is worth a try if you haven't tried it :)

        • Yes, definitely. Actually had a few nips of Aberlour last week. Nice stuff.

        • @DirtyBoots: yup, have one open right now ;) it needs a bit of water to open up right?

        • +1

@enzioFirenze: Yep, just a few drops. Amazing the difference a little water can make.

I've actually started trying more cask strength whiskies, and watering down from there.

        • @DirtyBoots: you and me both :) Cheers!

        • @enzioFirenze: your recommendation for a nice cask strength?

        • @DirtyBoots: if you liked Aberlour 12yo, Aberlour A'bunadh would be a nice step up, it's around 60% ABV from memory

        • @enzioFirenze: yep, that was good. I've also had glenfarclas 105 and some cask strength stuff from lark in Tassie. All were pretty nice.

        • @DirtyBoots: I've tasted the glenfarclas one and I concur, I'll have a look for the Tassie one, thanks mate :)

        • +1

@enzioFirenze: Yeah, definitely. A mate and I plan to do a pushbike tour around Tassie distilleries for our 40ths (an idea which I borrowed from crikey.com.au) and Lark will definitely feature!

  • But dans doing it for $75.95 now, 'must have pricematched.

    • Yea, they change the price of most of the products after checking them. That's why they don't advertise. This is a very good price.

  • So much trolling, good banter.

  • Correct one litre of water per 30mls of this scotch to wash the flavour away 😝
