    tell em the price son!

  • Geez you guys are quick - I cant type any faster ! yes, price in title done now

  • Is this a deal or what?

  • +5

I had to cancel my last order.

They only order once they have orders/money (from you). Minimal to zero in stock.

If you're fine to wait, no issue.

Personally, I don't like the dishonesty.

    • +1

They did this to me last eBay sale. Had to wait 10 extra days.
Over 80 negative rating the last month but only 110 for the 11 months prior

    • Be super careful on this deal then - there appears to be stock issues AU wide on this model, so highly likely you would never get it.. :(

  • +6

In a few years time these 2TB SSD will likely be about $150 in price (just as 250GB SSD are now about that price). There's always a fast deflation in price when it comes to new data storage tech like this. So your 3/4 of a grand investment will be worth a fraction of the price in even a years time. In my opinion is not a good investment.

If you want a drive this size for storage then get a HDD for a fraction of this current price and if you must use an SSD for the boot drive then just use a 250-500GB SSD. Bang for the buck on this 2TB SSD is terrible.

    • +2

Spot on. These things drop in price quick and most people would be using an SSD for the OS and a regular HDD for additional storage until the price drops to a more affordable range.

      • +2

desk top users have the slots and sata connectors for multiple drives , but most laptops only have a single drive so when you upgrade a lap top you do go for a big drive,

        • if you have the money to burn.

Look how fast the price of SSD drives have fallen. Unless you really need that space and dont care about spending that much money just to watch the price of the drive drop over the following 24 months it could just be a waste.

        • @siggy213:

Yeah that's precisely what i said down below and that you would be better off buying a fast graphics card instead it would be better bang for the buck when it comes performance wise and settle for a smaller cheap SSD. But i got massively neg voted for it. Some people just don't get it that they're throwing their money away buying an SSD this costly and it's only a 2TB drive. In a few years these 2TB SSD will be worth less than $200. I mean look how much 32GB SSD were 9 years ago when they first came out and now how much are they worth not much these days.

"In early 2007, when Samsung introduced its first generation SSD into the market it had a capacity of 32GB, sequential read/write speeds of 57 MB/s and 32 MB/s respectively and a hefty price tag of around $1000."

          http://thefutureofthings.com/3819-2009-ssd-year-of-revolutio…

These 2TB SSD are still new tech so the price will tumble on them soon enough since it always does when production increases.

And who here at the moment even needs a 2TB SSD that a 2TB HDD couldn't cover at a fraction of the price?.

        • @hollykryten:

I just feel unless you really need this 2tb and have the money to burn, you may just be better off going smaller on the drive and making use of your USB 3 ports with an external.

Most people want SSD drives to speed up the OS and applications. To have such a large drive just to put multimedia such as music, video and pictures on would seriously be a waste.

Prices for the 1TB have been dropping to about $300. If the 1tb were to drop further in price compared to the 2tb, you would not be loosing as much.

        • @siggy213:

Yeah an external or internal 2TB HDD would be better bang for the buck. A 500GB SSD would be fine for the boot drive or even that 1TB SSD which you mentioned.

        • @hollykryten: When you say internal 2tb you mean a desktop drive?

        • @siggy213:

Yes a 3.5" desktop drive. Although you can get a 2TB laptop HDD for about $200.

        • @hollykryten: Yup but 1tb would be enough for most.

    • Agreed. For most people, there are only a few apps/software that will benefit from the SSD i.e. Microsoft Office, Adobe photoshop etc. No point getting a 2TB just to store movies & music.

    • agreed, thats what I would do but also know heaps of people who would benefit from this, running multiple VMs, dev work etc on a daily basis. There is a space for it where the cost justifies the benefits.

    • +1

Even if you want SSD, there's been a few below or near $300 1TB models this week, so grab two unless you need a single drive. This might be nice in a laptop mind you if you are restricted to a single drive or have some other reason to not span drives.

      • Could get a convertor for the optical drive to accept harddrives(if you have one built in you dont use). But not sure if the port can support such high transfer speeds.

        • they don't have the dvd to hear drive caddies for all models of laptops. I have one in my MacBook Pro but can't get one for my Acer , so it's a bit hit and miss for caddy conversions and their availability .

        • @garage sale:yeah but for those that can do it, its an option.

    • +2

Generally true, but there's been no "fast deflation" for the Samsung 850s recently. Those who wanted to buy this drive at the start of the year, but waited for prices to fall, aren't saving anything and may actually be paying more. Several months ago, during a previous 20% off deal, Futu had these for $849/$879, before jacking up the price to $949 shortly after that sale began, where it's sat since (actually, I just checked and they've put it up even more for this sale - now it's $999).

Looking across the whole EVO and Pro range on camelcamelcamel, it's clear the downward trend we got used to in 2015 just didn't continue. Take the 500GB EVO, for example. The price fell by roughly 40% through 2015. Since the start if this year, it hasn't fallen at all.

    • Buy with credit card that offers price protection? Wait a year or so, if price down collect partial refund in difference from cc company? You are definitely right about prices, though. But what does one do? Never buy anything because prices are always falling and new tech always being released just around the corner?

  • +3

I would not bother with this deal because it is from PC Bite, OUCH!

    • -2

And 3/4 of a grand on an SSD. No way it's worth it. If you're going to pay that much you're far better off paying for some thing that will improve your PC performance like a better graphics card and just use a smaller SSD. There's no need of the average user for a 2TB SSD at the moment unless you're very rich and like throwing money away. They just cost too much for what you actually get.

      • for some people their notebook is their primary work horse especially if they use it for work and take it to various sites. my notebook has 1 tb and it's at 850gb full.

        • Yeah sorry. I was generally thinking towards desktop PC users. I was rudely not thinking of laptop users!.

        • Get an external drive (or 128GB usb stick) for anything that doesn't need to be accessed faster than ~100MB/s.

  • Honestly though.. you can get yourself a pretty damn good laptop on special for $800 (almost the cost of this SSD). I'd wait until it drops down in price a bit IMO. Think the sweet spot is about $300 or so (which is where the 1TB's are getting to now).
