gotriceeee
got riceeeeee ?
condolica rice is a turd!
too bad they are made in thailand :(
the old australian made rice was much betterno way, thai rice rocks
Australian rice production has collapsed primarily due to the drought. It simply does not make sense to grow rice in Queensland. This water intensive farming is best suited to naturally wet tropical countries.
just a suggestion, stay away from this rice. try thai jasmine rice then u'll know why.
I have to agree. Despite the many who claim rice is better grown in Thailand, there's different grades of Thai rice still and this isn't quality by any stretch of the imagination. Buy yourself a bag of thai moon jasmine and you'll be amazed at the difference. That considering the fact that Thai moon jasmine is not even considered good for jasmine thai rice!
It's cheap yes. Bargain? Not really.

10kgs is quite heavy; so for exactly the same price you can have it delivered from Woolworths Online — the only catch is that to get free delivery you have to select a weekday with a delivery window from 3pm to 9pm
if you can't lift 10kgs you should really eat more rice….
I logged in to give u a + :)
phail, rice is carb, protein is what u want.
100% with you there
fail. is spelt fail.
Carb = energy. Protein will build your muscles but Quick Ink is actually correct. Sorry about dissecting your joke with all the rest of these foo's
This rice isn't as nice as what it use to be. The rice you get now isn't soft and its crumbly. Although they come from Thailand, I would definitely go for the Thai rice from the Asian stores over this.
i've to agree. it used to taste alright last time. but having tried it once this year, i've decided not to buy it again. n thank goodness, it was the 2kg bag.
Yes, this is a bargain( not a bargain if considering the quality), few months ago Coles had special for $15 or so. I didn't realise quality had dropped big time. Unlucky me, bought two 10kg packs…
I won't buy Sun Long again for a while, at least until quality to improve. Rice was too unbearable to eat, even when it's freshly cooked or even for fried rice.
Even my rabbit struggled eating it…
Asian stores is the way to go.lol, what I did when I had 2 bags of these was mix them with quality jasmine rice until it was gone, say 1 cup of this to 4 cups of quality one.
@sublemon: I just couldn't throw food away… thinking of those people not lucky enough to feed themselves a spoon of rice a day. I decided to go hardcore and hope suffering would ended quicker, it didn't feel like it was fast enough….
After leftover from the rabbit, it was passed on to the worm farm…. Eventually, the worms digested what was left over, I think it turned green at some stage before all were gone…
Arrr… it gives me goosebumps remembering it.
I remember purchasing two 10kg bag of Coles brand rice for $9.49ea in April 2008. I still have the bags (rice long gone). Commodities like oil, copper, corn, and rice were skyrocketing in price and it was inevitable that $9.49 wouldn't be beaten for a long time. $12/10kg is a bargain and I'll be stocking up.
+1 here
It used to be good but now it taste so bad.
Now I usually buy those 25KG bag from Asian storesyeah i agree. i been cooking rice whole my life and i was bit skeptic with my skill because the end result was bit crumbly. thank God i was wrong, it was the rice… :P fiuhh…
Jasmine only. I love it.
this rice is cheep, but you should really be thinking bout the food miles that this product has done before you purchase it, all the way from thailand. Aust grown rice would be a better option and lessen your carbon impact. Every small contrabution helps.
yeah carbon footprint - by using scarce australian water vs a tropical thai climate where there is heavy rainfall? well to be fair, rice growing in oz, along with other plantations, is quite opportunistic.
If there is a local product avaliable such as aussie rice then why not purchase it rather than buying something that has travelled 5000+ km. True there is not as much rainfall as thia. However water consumtion in this counrty is not as effient as it could be and you would be supporting Australian farmers and their families or would you prefer to import all you consumables no matter how far they have travelled. The point i was making is if we all try to contribute combat climate change, even small steps count, it was just a suggestion on a way to help, but you diamond just want to be synical and negetive, its not to late to get on the climate change wagon we will welcome u with open arms regardless:)
yes i am cynical and negative because i raised the issue of water consumption. Is water use not part of the climate change issue? Rice is by far the most water intensive crop, even cotton uses far less water, though farmers usually only plant these when there is an abundance in water (if not, are they putting their own interests ahead of everybody by using up finite resources?). Australian rice would be different to the thai rice or other rices grown in different climates, eg Jasmine as mentioned here, so maybe the aussie rice isn't what people are looking for.
In terms of food miles, even locally produced food travels a fair distance from the ground before it reaches our mouths. From the farm, to the rice mills etc etc. I bet this sunrice would travel far away to a woolies distribution centre then come back via a truck to a woolies location not that far from its original planting spot. Do you grab your groceries from your local farmers market/farmgate trail or just the big woolies?
Yeah i dont just jump on 'wagon' because everybody is doing it. I drive it because I actually give a damn.
@diamondtouch1: I dont get your point bout the food miles, agreed aussie rice does travel a fair distance but nothing in comparison to the miles travelled by foreign produced rice. battleing climate change is all about changing the systems and production methods we now have in place for a more sustainable option. encouragement and positive dialog is whats needed. I first put up a idea or suggestion of a way to help (there are + and - with every method)its about getting people out there to change their ways through informed positve discussions. I dont agree with negitve and synical feedback that method is counter productive to what is trying to be achieved. I thought you being the self appionted driver would have realised this
@chanoo: ha is this not positive dialogue, since it HAS generated some discussion here? Nobody is right or wrong here, so I don't quite agree with you saying that this is negative and cynical feedback. There are many factors in battling climate change and if me pointing out that water (one of the many elements that make up the climate change/sustainability issue along with food miles etc) is not appropriate then i must really uninformed. Oh look, where has this discussion gone? Whoops, im probably not a great driver then.
Food miles is a simple concept that can be inadequate to measure the impact of your purchase. People have already pointed out that if you destroy more of your home environment to grow something that isn't suited to grow there, it may actually be worse to buy local.
And then again, if you substitute another carb, assuming you can stand to go without rice, say potatoes, does that have a bigger impact, in terms of fertilizer inputs, etc?
What if the exporting country has produced a surplus of the crop for a long time, and the money they earn puts food in their families' tables, whereas say the local producers could plant something else and still earn a living?
So many aspects.
So while the intention is good, I think the accounting needs to be more elaborate for food miles to be useful.
Not a fan of Sunrice long grain rice. It has a weird smell. Much prefer the Sunrice medium grain or a thai-imported jasmine rice.
Month back at local woolie, five bags of thai moon jasmine 10kg for $9.99 each.
Never look back… lol
Welcome to Australia :)
Koala rice is better.
i was at my local coles and they have this 10kgs bag for $20 and apparently if not on sale, normal price was $27
Hey I wonder why it is on sale now? ^_^ Yeah, medium grain Sunrice is still ok, but won't touch long grain again until they bring back Aussie quality.
Bought it when it was on offer for $10 before, it's so awful. Hated it.
I agree with everyone above. Cheap rice really isn't worth it. It usually ends up being dry and crumbly or sticky and soft no matter how much water you put in and tastes worse as leftovers.
My suggestion is go to your local Chinese grocery store. Go to the Rice section and pick out all the rice that appeals to you in 1-2kg packets. Go home and do a test -preferably in one sitting- cook 1-2 big bowls worth of each rice and then pick the one you like the taste of best and buy a big 20-25kg of that rice for around $35-40.
It may be more expensive this way but you're actually going to enjoy your food instead of being disgusted and waste money on something you hate.
I reckon green pack sun rice not tasting well.
I bought one 10kg last year, but unfortunatelly I dumped 9.5kg in the red bin.
I forgot to mention, red packs sun rice are excellant.
I bought it last time from Woolworths when they are on special, my advice, don't do it, the quality is pretty bad and took me sooo long for me to finish it, I would rather spent more on better quality and actually enjoy a meal, jasmine rice 1kg from Aldi taste very good.
the same concept that you don't buy a can of SPAM, or a bottle of pasta sauce from asian grocer :D
I wouldn't, but because of the price. It's the same stuff as in a supermarket (provided it came from the same manufacturer and country) but more expensive. If you are talking about premium pasta sauce, well, obviously an Asian grocery is the wrong place, try a deli. SPAM is SPAM, no premium grade.
Incidentally all the comments above explain why my Asian grocery isn't stocking Sunlong any more. Obviously their customers don't like it. Luckily last time I was there, I had no choice but to buy some nice jasmine rice. Life's too short to eat bad rice. :)
I extremely hate this rice. My mum bought it because she saw it on sale but then when we tried it for dinner, the whole family hated it. It was all hard and grainy with a weird smell. My mum thought it was perfect for fried rice so she tried that instead but it was still the same hard, low quality rice.
Neg vote on the basis of your subjective taste for the product is not justifiable. You could have easily returned the rice in replacement for a new pack. You may have got a bad harvest or something. But then again, your mum may have not cooked it right, given that she knows how to turn on the stove.
agree, if this product so bad, woolies won't sell this item.
Stop trying to be a mod by enforcing rules which you clearly haven't read.
From the voting guidelines:
"Negative votes are also appropriate when there maybe something wrong with the product. Eg an automobile accessory that may be cute, but might be against ADR's (Australian Design Rules). Or an telephone product that hasn't passed local approvals. Safety issues".
The overwhelming opinion in the comments here is that the rice listed is rubbish - there is something wrong with the product. It could also be an indication that its health benefits might not be what is expected.

Amen.
couple months ago, it was the first time for me to taste basmati rice. i don't want to offend some people who like this type of rice. for me this basmati rice has very strong smell.
everyone has their own preference. some people, who normally eat this type of rice then switch with jasmine rice. then switch back to this type of rice, their tongue will taste the big different on this rice taste.
same when you were poor, then one day you become rich, enjoy all the premium stuff. but one day you become poor again, you will hate the oldies as poor again, coz you can feel the different as rich person that enjoy all the premium stuff, all the sudden back to poor that just taste the basic stuff.if you have an evidence that this rice is not good or has the risk for health, you should report immediately to Woolworth and Australia health department, for this rice to be recall ASAP. don't just talk, give warning only in here.
stop be a member of NATO = No Action Talk Only
@dragonrabit: You know, I accidentally put a positive vote on your post. Don't know how to retract comment votes.
I didn't say there's any risk to anyones health. I can't understand the rest of your dribble, but please don't reply to me ever again.
10 Kg … a lot of rice , you can eat cheap half a year ! Haaa…
If this rice is so bad, just take it back for a refund - Woolies will give it to you.
Also I thought long grain was best fried - if you want to boil why not use Jasmine or medium grain?
now i know why this rice sucked so bad..i always thought it was my bad rice cooking skills
WaywardOne - thank you for letting us know about woolworth free delivery 3pm-9pm. I never knew that. Is this a special delivery for couple of weeks or is this free delivery all year around except weekend? Bought some groceries yesterday to get it delivered today for free! yey!!! i dont have to carry any heavy things to my house anymore!
Does coles have free delivery too?????I am glad someone appreciates it :P
If you are on public transport, home delivered groceries really helps!
Guys, heres a tip.
If you want to save money, and your health, buy brown rice.
It is healthier, and often cheaper because it is so much more filling. I can easily eat two cups of white rice for every cup of brown rice.
At $1.20 a kilo this rice is definitely cheaper, but it is inferior in nutrition, and from the comments in taste as well.
Save your health and your money. Buy brown.
The way I define cheaper is by comparing the price per kilo. Is the brown rice really generally cheaper or not?
Brown rice is a lot dearer.
For 25kg around $43. Smaller pack will be dearer.
Have to agree with all of above.
The quality and taste of the Green Color Bag SunRice from Coles and Wollie has been dropped.
I and all my Chinese rice eating friends has the same experience.
At least one bring the bag back to Coles for refund.
The rest and myself, have to mix with other rice to be able to swallow them.
Source: my last 40 years of rice eating almost everyday.
My father used to be a rice selling grocer.Sorry , my -vote is for the rice, not for your comment.
Can't see how to remove it.Brown rice is more expensive per kilo, but also more filling per kilo. Therefore, brown rice is a greater effective kilo than white rice.
Of course, one does not judge and make decisions based on the nutrition and expense of one product alone; one makes product choices based on the conglomerate of taste, product synergy, preparation time, storage, expiry dates and of course nutrition and expense as well as other factors I cant think of right now.
Oh and negative vote for crap quality rice(taste-wise).
Agree with many of the negative comments regarding the quality of this brand.
I used to buy this brand a long time ago. They switched to LOW QUALITY RICE and I have since sworn not to buy this brand again.
It is no better (and possibly worse) than generic/Home Brand style rice (at least with those brands, you get a money back guarantee!!!).
Seriously though, if you are a rice person, then you probably already know to stay away…Yes, it is cheap, but for a reason (they probably can't shift it).
Interesting to hear people's experience with this rice. I wonder if it's got to do with the 'worldwide shortage' of rice recently
got rice?
