How do you use the starter kit?
Is anything else needed?
What do you make it in?Can I see the instructions?
If it's like any other kombucha, you just need to make a sweet tea mixture, and add the SCOBY and some tea from your last batch, and let if ferment. I presume this kit is the SCOBY floating in some pre-brewed tea. So you'll just need tea, sugar and water.
EDIT: it doesn't look like it includes the starter tea, so that might mean you need to make a batch, and use that tea to start the next, or use something else acidic.
Is this an alternate to beer? Alcoholic drink in the form of green tea.
How much can be brewed from one SCOBY? Reusable or Single Uae.
Ordering one. say hello to Matt.
I don't think it's really alcoholic, at least from a quick google
It's not alcoholic as far as I know. I had some in the US; its popular at health food grocery stores. It's just fermented, which is supposed to be good for you. That said, it tasted like shit to me. Like vinegared slightly fizzy tea.
It's fermented, but it's not 'alcoholic' - it might be 0.1% alcohol, you could never get drunk off it. My grandmother used to make it and I used to drink it as a child.
Every batch you make, you create another scoby. You can give it away to friends (or sell on gumtree for $5) or just use 2 in your next batch = shorter brew times. I suspect that some of my batches are 0.5-1% alcohol, and there have been cases of kombucha in the US being pulled off the shelf due to alcoholic content being too high for a soft drink. I'm skeptical of the health benefits, but I like the taste!
Would the culture die if Im not home on the day of delivery, the package was dropped on my doorstep in direct sunlight, and the temperature was really high or low?
Not sure about high temperatures, but really low temperatures (down to 3 or 4 degrees) are fine. I put my scoby in the fridge to hibernate it in between batches. You can also usually pick up a scoby with some starter brew for $5 off the gumtree. Each time you make a batch you end up with more scoby.
Thanks! I will do that instead.
Bit worried about mine, ordered last week and had been notified as sent but haven't received it yet.
