Just noticed it today. I asked for this deal with my phone plan last month and they couldn't. Be nice to them and they will probably waive the $200 upfront cost. Currently with TPG and pay $80 for 25/5 speed.

Free modem to new customers
local calls: Unlimited
National calls: $2 Cap for calls up to an hour. Includes 20c per minute + 45c call connection fee, 20c per minute thereafter.
Mobile calls: $2 Cap for calls up to an hour. Includes 20c per minute + 45c call connection fee, 20c per minute thereafter.

  • So did you manage to get the $200 connection waived? When I tried they said no about a month ago.

    • I havent joined them yet but I will tomorrow. When I was talking about this deal she said she could waive the upfront cost.

      • +1

I just asked them on chat again…

Beth N:I can understand, but we don't have an option to waive off the connection fee on month to month plan.

  • verry unlikely they will waive installation even on a plan

  • only way to avoid install fee is to go on $110 plan so basically paying $19.50 a month for fetch tv if you work it out over 24 months, i just wish NBN would roll out faster i've been stuck with 12 Mbps since adsl 2+ started, i can get 40 Mbps on my phone it just seems crazy that now my phone has better internet anywhere then i can get on a stable home line connection

    • You should consider yourself lucky to have 12Mbps… Many have 1/4 of that.

  • -1

This Deal is not available at all. Please tell more information how did you get that.

    • This Deal is not available at all.

You have to be Eligible Optus mobile customer to get $20 discount for bundling with home broadband. Title was for NBN but it is also available for adsl 2+, cable internet. hope this helps.

  • NBN has come to my area.

I'm currently on cable with that $90 Unlimited Broadband (includes unlimited local, national and mobile calls).

the closet thing to that for NBN is $110 ($20 more!!!)

    not happy.

cable speeds are fine for me. I don't care about having anything faster.

    hmmm

    • I'm no export on this stuff, but have been looking at it recently.

The default NBN plan is 12/1 (12 megabits down, 1 megabit up which equals about 1.5 megabytes downloaded per second). Some providers will up that to 25/5 or more if you pay extra.

If you are on cable, you will most probably get 30/1 speeds, which is pretty close to the 25/5. However, unlike NBN, I don't think cable suffers anywhere near as much in peak times.

When I asked Optus and Telstra, they said that many areas get pretty close to full-bandwidth with cable. If you're in the right areas of Melbourne (Geelong and ???), you can get 1/2 priced cable with iiNet.

So, your comment on cable is most probably valid. You might save a bit of money, but you are unlikely to get better performance unless you go above 25/5.

If I have anything wrong here, I can guarantee (and hope) that loads of NBN experts will jump in and correct me. I might learn something new too.

    • Isn't that why Optus' bundle listed above is good news? Save $20.

How do I get the $20 monthly discount on my home broadband plan?
To qualify for this discount, your eligible broadband and mobile services need to be bundled in the same name and at the same billing address. You can opt in to a bundle at the time of purchasing a new broadband plan. There is a limit of one $20 discount per mobile and broadband bundle. Please note that if you cancel your mobile plan, you will lose the monthly discount on your broadband plan.

    • Did you think they were going to give you internet that was both faster and cheaper?

      • no, I want the same speed at the same price.

        • Just keep what you have.

        • @lostn:

Optus is shutting down the cable network. I don't have a choice.

        • @altomic: I see.

          That kinda sucks then.

I'm jealous you even get to have it. I've lived in my area for over 20 years and we don't have overhead phone cables so we've never been able to get Optus cable, even though I've wished I could get it for the last 16 years.

  • Just switched from tpg to optys cable 2 months, very happy customer except unprofessional Indian customer service

Paying 60$ for 30m cable with home phone with $20 discount by using $0 post paid sim plan, first 2 months are free (160 off first bill), $125 installation with free modem

The speed is fine, full 30m(3600k/s) speed in the day time and 500k/s at night, tpg ADSL gave me about 500k/s everyday.

  • NBN..is subject to location..
