Where is the $0 comes from? The web site shows $30/month…

    • you need to select month to month and then scroll left. I couldn't link directly to the plan.

      • +1

To be precise, you need to click the arrow next to the $35 plan on the left.

      • Thanks. But where does it say this plan is available until 3rd July 2016?

It seems this only works with the new broadband packages (i.e not the $90 one they were doing a while back)

"Optus NBN, Cable, DSL Direct and Optus Reach plans are eligible as long as these services can be connected at your address. In addition to your eligible mobile phone plan, you need to purchase one of these plans after May 2, 2016 to receive this $20 bundle discount. Customers who purchased one of our broadband plans before this date need to recontract to a new plan to be eligible."

  • Is that $20 a month or once off ?

  • Even without $20 discount, I think it is good to sign up to this plan. You get a free number and an access to Optus perks without paying anything.
But be aware if you ever get to port out your number, you have to pay ~$7 fee. Also unless you set up a direct debit (eg. paying by CC or BPAY) theres like this crazy ~3%? fee.

    • Optus charge a port out fee?

      • Yes I think so. I was with them on BYO $50plan (month to month) and when I ported out to Telstra (~4 months ago?) they charged me ~$7 port out fee.

        • I know that with Telstra you can avoid this fee by transferring from postpaid to prepaid before porting out. Not sure if it's the same with Optus.

        • @julesa:

There is a discussion on port out fee ($8) before.

Look like your trick to port from postpaid to prepaid can't avoid the fee.

        • O just port out recently too. Didnt realise Optus charged port out fee until i read this. What a reaper

        • @kelvinsmj:

Probably Optus postpaid only. It'd be hard to enforce this with prepaid services.

    • theres like this crazy ~3%? fee.

      3% of $0 = $0

      • :D

Dang this is good. I can really dump my spare aldi sim and get this instead for emergencies.

    Savings of $15 a year.

    • I have also done this for 2 mobile service numbers. Saves me $30 pa.

  • wonder if this sim is eligble to data share with an existing plan. This would be especially good since they scrapped the $5 data share sim

Can only order 6 at a time.

  • This itself IS a good deal!

Thinking about using this in a GPS tracking device for my car/bike/kids.

It works off GPS and sends an SMS with location details if you request it.
10c per SMS isn't too bad as you'd only use it if you lost something.

    • How does that work? The gps device that takes sim card?

      • Yes that's right.
You can find these things on eBay for less than $30 delivered.

        • Which is most likely GSM only.

Optus is killing GSM just like Telstra at the end of 2016.

Look at the pebble core it supports 3G.

I use one for my phantom3 drone but just moved from Aldi to kiss mobile due to GSM cutoff.. Kiss uses voda which hasn't announced of killing GSM yet.

    Thanks for this.

Just tipped the balance for me to sign up with Optus cable vs. Telstra.

Also got 2 months free in a 24 month contract. Works out to be $60/month including setup fee which is the same as my current TPG ADSL 2.

    • How did you get 2 months free?

      • It's either 2 months free or $145 setup fee waived. You can get it pretty easily by calling up customer service.

        • Just through online chat. I framed it as "I'm on the fence between Optus and Telstra, Telstra is willing to waive their setup fee (which is admittedly only $59), can you?".

They weren't willing to waive the set up fee for me ($125) but 2 months free is essentially just as good. :)

        • @plasmapuff: wow do you pay cable for 60 bucks? 100mbps? With fetch? That's cheap.

        • @reon:

No just standard (not with speed boost package). Not sure about fetch..not going to be using it either way.

My thinking was that being >5km from the exchange and for the same price, there was no reason not to get cable vs. ADSL :P

    • How did u get 2 months free?

  • How long is the number active without any usage?

Remember, to avoid the 'paper bill' fee of $2.20 and the 'Payment processing fee' for not having direct debit or a linked credit card.

I live chat with Optus and they said:

There is no time period for that, even if you don't use that for long time, which will be active always.

    • I live chat with Optus and they said:

There is no time period for [inactivity], even if you don't use that for long time, which will be active always.

  • Yeah got to say Optus the sneaky fools almost had me.

I'm currently on the old $90 plan which included: unlimited calls mobile/land line; unlimited cable and FETCH TV(no contract)

I click to the home broadband bundle thinking the same equivalent plan is $90 making this a deal no brainer. But alas! It defaults to prices already including the $20 discount!!!!! I would be resigning for a $110 package less $20 discount -.-''

    • yeah i called up just then and asked about existing broadband/NBN services and they said you had to recontract/rerate to their new plans. Theres also no way to add the previous $10 off bundles they had.

  • When selecting it says it includes the EPL subscription!!! is that correct

    • I don't think so. I remember it say not eligible!

  • does it cost money to receive calls?

    • It does when you are roaming. I don't know of any Australian SIM that charges money for incoming calls when you are not roaming.

  • You don't need mobile subscription to have 20%discount, I'm with amaysim, it works, probably because it's using Optus.

    • are you sure that amaysim also with with 20% discount. this is the frist time ever I hear!

      • Yeah, I got $20 off my broadband with optus and mobile is with amaysim.

  • Does this plan include the usual Optus perks (eg Hoyts movie tickets etc)?

  • so these may be handy to put in ie a 3g alarm or to keep a number activate over 1 yr and not use it to make calls only receive? would there be any hidden fee charged later?

  • Are Optus willing to move credit from a prepaid account to a postpaid one? Not that it would last very long on this plan if you used it.

  • So just to confirm, this broadband bundle discount is only for current broadband plans, and not previous plans like the $90 cable bundle?
