Bit of a surprise to me.

If anyone deserves to go down it's Ted's, in my opinion. Had great experiences with Gerry Gibbs (only made 1 order though). I thought with the crappy AUD things would be better for the local retailers since imports are not very enticing for Joe User & Josephine User.

But I guess there is a general sales slump in cameras (?) especially with phones eating in to the low-end of the market (?) or is there something else going on?

    • +1

I was thinking Gerry Harvey actually if anyone deserves to close down

      • My experience with Ted's was terrible and they are a specialist camera retailer, so I was thinking of dedicated camera retailers. But yes, good point.

    • +1

My local Ted's has never failed to price match when I've asked. The staff have always been friendly and helpful. They've never given me any trouble whatsoever when I've had legitimate cause to return a product as per their 14 day exchange guarantee. And although I primarily deal with one local store, I've done business with a couple of other stores in my area and have had much the same experience.

So I feel compelled to ask: why do they deserve to go down?

I'd be quite disappointed if they did.

      • So I feel compelled to ask: why do they deserve to go down?

My Ted's online experience was beyond terrible. I also prefer to give business to those shops who don't insist on going through the camera box before you take delivery. And also those shops who offer competitive prices. Ted's rarely do.

        • If we're going by reports of terrible online experiences then just about every company in existence deserves to go down. Really. Do enough business and something is going to go wrong for someone eventually, and not just once. I'm sorry it happened to you, but I bet the same thing has happened to someone else at some other store that has been good to you.

As for price, like I said Ted's have never failed to match or beat a competitors* price whenever I've asked. And it's always been a pleasant and casual exchange because they actually invite price match requests, both in store and online.

(*retailers carrying Australian stock with official local warranties)

Having said all that I know what it's like to have a terrible experience and be left with a bad taste in your mouth. There's an emotional component that is beyond explaining away. But having done a lot of business with Ted's over the years I guess I feel they've earned a few balancing comments from me.

        • @cainn:
When I say "beyond terrible" I mean "beyond terrible". If I told you you'd be shocked, but I'd rather not get into it now. Plus the fact that they rarely initiate competitive pricing means they don't deserve my custom. Any store can price-match if they want. I haven't had "beyond terrible" experiences with any other vendor and I have had years of experience buying camera gear.

All it took was ONE online order from Ted's (on 2 low-priced items; they weren't even cameras).

  • some good deals, but expect website will crash soon.

    • it is certainly being tested:)

  • Who's going to cover replacement if something is wrong?

    • warranties are with wholesalers EG: you would send it to canon, nikon service center ….but it is all Australian stock not factory seconds from HK

      • +2

If it is damaged during shipping I doubt canon or nikon would jump in

        • thats true

    • Have a few things in cart but worried about the same thing.

  • -1

Prices on the website do not include GST (added at the checkout).

    • that dose not sound correct …..checking

      • +3

gst is not added at checkout, its the 3% credit card charge

        • -3

GST and Surcharges: is Delivery and GST combined. GST is in the website price, but delivery is added at the checkout.

    • GST is included in the price.. it's the 3% credit card fee which is a lot! Then again, it's cheap insurance if things go pear-shaped..

  • -1

Yes I think the GST calculation is not included until check-out?

    • +1

gst is not added at checkout, its the 3% credit card charge

  • Nikkon still doing cash back for this store? Don't see it listed in authorized retailers anymore, although digidirect is in the list.

    • +1

Not in dropdown anymore, probably not?

    • I have been told cash backs will be honored

      • +1

How if there is no option on nikon site?

  • +5

The 3‰ credit card surcharge is a deal breaker. I wouldn't chance it with direct deposit with the company going under.

  • Wow, some superb prices… A7 for $200!! Too bad you can't checkout :(

    • +1

DOSE NOT APPLY TO BACK ORDERS OR PRE-ORDERS, only whats in-stock

  • Can anyone recommend a wide angle lens for a nikon d5100. No idea where to begin?

  • Website is down :(

  • So if I buy a camera that states pre-order, will it be shipped to me?

    • DOSE NOT APPLY TO BACK ORDERS OR PRE-ORDERS, only whats in-stock

  • Are they honoring the 25mm F1.7 lens with Panasonic G cameras? http://www.panasonic.com/au/promotions/latest-promotions/bon…

    • I have been told cash backs will be honored

      • Its not exactly a cash back, it should be given directly by the store with the order

        • can you please show me the link that says that

        • @nick coulson:
Its linked in my first post above. http://www.panasonic.com/au/promotions/latest-promotions/bon…

It says "Hurry in store to purchase a selected LUMIX G camera between 15/7/16 & 31/8/16.
          And you’ll take home a bonus 25mm LUMIX G lens worth $299!"

"Purchase an eligible Lumix camera and ask for your Bonus 25mm in store."

        • @nick coulson:

Nick, if you click on the op's link it clearly says "available in store …"

        • sorry i thought you were referring to a cashback……..yes you are correct

        • @nick coulson:

Is that a yes, you get the free 25mm? Because nowhere on the site or in cart does it mention this.

Or just yes to Smackus, that the link says "available in store"

        • +2

I am assuming that it is but you get a binding answer you will have to email them Gerry Gibbs [email protected]

        • No, the cashback is from panasonic.

  • So why the website can't mark items as sold out when the last stock has been successfully checked out by a buyer? So the website just static not counting stocks in real time?

    • they can and they will but by the time they get to your order it may have been sold downstairs instore

      • So can we call them? How do we know what we're ordering is actually in stock? For the time I'll spend worrying and chasing a refund, I might as well buy it from DigiDirect or CameraWarehouse!

  • Can't create a new account :( man.. this site is getting hammered.. lol

  • +3

    • The site is screwed 909 + 19 shipping = 956. What?

Edit: It put the paypal fee on without showing it as a separate line item.

  • +2

    • Did you receive a confirmation of order email (on top of the usual PayPal one) ?

      • :_( you're making me worried…

I only got the Paypal email.

Ordered Olympus lens.. 40-150 and 25mm.. been waiting for this for a long time… :(

        • I received the PayPal email and then the shop email about an hour and a half after that.

I hope you get yours soon!

  • I'm sorry to see you guys go :( I've had good experience buying from you guys as well.

    • So have I, they've been good with my phantom purchase which had something wrong with it when shipped.

Delivery guy picked it up and they sent me another sealed

  • Some of the fujifilm lenses were discounted before & now it's been removed. The cash back is already finished. Can you please fix that Nick.

  • +1

Sorry I'm not 100% sure what you want me to do….. If the cashback is finished nothing i can do, and I'm sure the 30% off is way more than what it was discounted

    • +4

    • +2

Will you know if site will be back up with updated stocks?

  • +3

    Ozbargained..

  • +1

Whatnot.. Are you serious? So not able to check out?

  • Holy moly… that's sad. I've gotten quite a few decent bargains from GG

  • So all the stock is gone of everything? Or you are just taking the site down for performance reasons?

  • +2

There may be chance of the site reopening once products that are sold out are removed, check every now and again

    • Deal should be marked as expired then

    • +1

No not everything has gone but we need time to find out which ones are and remove them

      • So are you saying that if the site comes back online we can assume anything that is still on the site is in stock ?

        • yes

      • Just unexpire the deal when the website is back online.

        Thanks

  • +1

Yup! Almost all OzBargainers just woke up and it was just a matter of time before the deal was gonna get ozbargained to death. I am glad I resisted until the end. :D

    • +3

Same. Was about to spend $1500 on stuff I don't need. Thank God it crashed before I could check out.

      • When closing down, or similar sales pop up here, that's when my savings suffer. As you said, there are two cameras (an entry level DSLR and a compact digital camera) that are sitting in their respective bags that I haven't used more than once since I bought them on similar sales posted here. That's money I could've used for something else, so I learned my lesson. No more impulse buying (well, at least I am trying). :)

Hi Rep are you a fan of Agient of Shield :D
