I only paid $621 from JB with a 16gb sdcard.

Mod Edit: See Comment below, actually paid $691

    • thats more like a bargain!

    • Hi which JB did you purchase phone from for $621, as I went to two outlets and they thought I was crazy asking for such discount.

      • I'd like to know too, $621 is under cost actually.
Unless they are receiving hidden rebate we don't know about.

    • That's utter crap. Cost on this phone is $690.

      • where did you get your figure of 690 from?

  • +4

Oops sorry just checked invoice and was $691 with free 16gb SD card thrown in!

    • nvm

    • Haha you get a + from me for sucking people in :) Nice work :)

Hey guys, Harvey Norman is selling these for $549!

      • -5

        Link please?

        • You're kidding, right?

        • +1

          whoosh

        • some people just dont get it..

Lies, fairly sure that HN have never had this phone. You may be thinking of the hero.
Searching on their web site has no results either. Nice troll.

        • They got the phone, I just checked Adelaide, City Centre.
It's $799, so standard Harvey Norman price.

    • +2

So JB still cheaper then this.
and OP didn't mention shipping cost $10.95

  • Ill also note that after 14 days I returned phone as started showing pink tinge on screen for grays and battery life was woeful.
I was struggling to get a day out of it.
Ended up getting a HD2 instead.

  • Keeping in mind, you can get it for about $612 delivered from the UK, from handtek or clove. UK models are unlocked and come with 2 year HTC warranty, but need to be sent back to the UK seller if you do need repairs. They also come with 4gb microsd cards.

Local australian desires come with 1 year warranty and only 2gb microsd cards

    • Except the UK versions are 900/2100 MHz meaning they wouldn't work on the NextG network.

(Which is fine if you're not planning on using nextG of course). It would just be 3G.

      • HSPA works fine on optus. How does nextg compare to hspa though in terms of speed? Not an expert in this matter

        • +1

Telstra network is theoretically faster if your device can handle it which none can.
But they're probably realistically faster cause there's less congestion (3G is shared bandwidth so the more people connected, the slower everyone connects at)
HSPA is the protocol by which all 3G works.. ie Telstra NextG is a HSPA network just like Optus and Voda 3G networks.

    • I think at only ~$80 more, this is pretty cheap for an Aus delivered phone. But yeh, two weeks ago with the better exchange rate people were getting UK imports for $570 landed!

    • If I recall, the ones you get from clove has 2 years of warranty too…

  • next g > optus

i have both, optus is ok in short bursts, next g is very consistent, always very fast

  • JB hifi chadstone - $650 outright - Telstra branding as usual

    • Are the $650 outright phones unlocked to use on Optus?

      • I would think it's unlocked. I've bought a Telstra branded HTC Diamond outright a yr ago, it was unlocked.

  • Do these work on Optus 3G network?
Are these getting the Android 2.2 FroYo update?

    • here's the deal with Android phones, if you want the latest goodies (aka ROMS) without having to root your device, you'd want the Nexus One as its Google's phone and they will release (and internally test) to that hardware.

With HTC Desire and other models, you're at the mercy of HTC which may be delayed in getting the ROM for your phone, though with Froyo they've said it may be end of June. Having moved to Froyo on the weekend (Nexus One guy) I have to tell you its most definitely worth getting. The JIT enhancements are awesome, though some applications are only just being updated to factor in the change (Calendar apps have broken, Trapster etc are just getting updated etc). Flash hasn't been a big requirement for me, youtube works and I can youporn at home if I need to. JIT & tethering were higher priorities for me - on a non-rooted phone.

This ofcourse is irrelevant if you plan on rooting it with the many roms you can get from certain places :)

      • +1

        hu hu

        he said rooting

    • They will in Metro areas but not in country areas..

  • Do the Telstra branded mobiles have Telstra logo on them as well the customized software?
I was planning to use it with 3.
Also, Couldn't find an option to buy it outright from online (JB-Hi Fi).

  • -2

why would you have $699 outright when they're free on a $79 cap.

    • Is the $79 cap on a 24month contract? If it is, then its pretty easy to work out why some people might want to purchase outright.

    • eek!! BFM, I would search whirlpool before to give them a try.
It's a pity it is not a 900/2100, I dream of the day AU will get top end phones with warranty b4 they are eol.

  • Normally NextG-compatible phones are more expensive. Any reason why 850/1900 NextG HTC Desire is sold cheaper than the same phone but on 900/2100 (for Optus/Vodafone)?

    • I would imagine that Telstra wants people on their network.
