The marketing for this is deceiving. They claim you only have to download the app to get the points. It's more than that. You already have to have one of those step counter things and connect that as well. If you are going to promote the deal in the title put that you have to have the step device in the title.

    • Previously on the iphone deal there was a way to enter in step data manually and that seemed to be all that was needed to earn the points. I will try the same thing on android tonight

    • not really sure. they just said "Connect your phone and/or wearable device (such as Fitbit or Garmin)"

You don't need to have a Fitbit device. Just install Google Fit app and connect it to the Qantas app. However, the 150 points appears to be locked points which means you need to purchase a Qantas insurance product in order to unlock the points.

    • I'm surprised people even get it.

Its basically 50c to a dollar worth

      • this always comes up. people use the points to keep their accounts alive and not expire due to inactivity

  • So it must connect with a wearable device to get the points?

    • nope, it can be just connected to the google fit app which you need to DL off the play store

  • HTTP Status 408

The client did not produce a request within the time that the server was prepared to wait ().

Think about if the points (worth about $1.50) are worth your privacy and possible security breaches:

    Version 1.0.1 can access:
    Contacts
    read your contacts
    Photos / Media / Files
read the contents of your USB storage
modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
    Storage
read the contents of your USB storage
modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
    Wi-Fi connection information
    view Wi-Fi connections
    Other
    receive data from Internet
    full network access
    view network connections
    prevent device from sleeping
    run at startup
    pair with Bluetooth devices

    • I'm sure people have downloaded free apps (Pokemon Go?), or hell even paid apps, that require more permissions than that, so I think many people would willingly do it for an app that costs negative money!

  • Can't see where it allows Garmin devices. Anyone know?

Thanks. I connected it to Google Fit and received the 150 points, and then some more for challenges that I already met. It looks like I'll continue to get some points for ongoing challenges, despite not having Assure insurance.

Mine is definitely dependent on having the Assure product purchased. When you look at your profile does it say "Total locked Qantas points earned"?
It's a bit dodgy they don't mention that the points are useless without a purchase.

      • +1

Ah. Yeah, they are locked points. I did get the 150 for downloading and logging in though, and they already show up in my QFF account. Time to delete the app. Thanks!

I think the 150 points in your account is from QANTAS ASSURE SURVEY.

        • @jackofspade: You're right.
          26 JUL 16 QANTAS ASSURE SURVEY 07JUL16 - 150
          Also:
          16 DEC 15 QANTAS ASSURE LAUNCH SURVEY 16DEC15 - 100

        • Points now received:
          05 AUG 16 QANTAS ASSURE 04AUG16 - 275

  • it just looks for google fit (app on phone) rather than a fitbit. Google fit will sync with other android wear type devices.

What can I buy with 150 QFF points?

    • +1

      Nothing.

    • +1

You ignited the interest in me, so I searched in Qantas store. You can actually get some thing for 0 points from Qantas store.

      https://store.qantas.com/Catalogue.a2?Page=ViewProduct&Produ…

Add this to cart and purchase to get a free call back from Qantas assure marketing team. Time to post the bargain of the year :P

Do you think if I already had the app working on an iPhone and using iwatch step counter to earn points I could download the android app and get the 150 points as well?
I don't mean earn step points from both..

  • Locked points??? Looks like the only way to get earnt points from joining Fitness product unlocked and sent to QFF account is to buy Assure product e.g. Health Insurance…

  • I just downloaded the app. All you need to do as mentioned is go to playstore>google Fit then connect it and you'll get a screen come up saying you'll receive your 150 points for logging in. But then again 150 points for them to access your gmail information is abit yeah.. Goodluck folks. Good find OP

  • It appears the 150 points are locked, unless you purchase a Qantas Assure product. So you earned them, but you can't get them until you buy.

A friend of mine works in the development team for this; he tells me that the 150 signup points are not locked, in spite of what the UI shows (it was a late addition apparently). It's also possible to earn unlocked points with the Blackmores promotion that they've got in there (up to 200, but you'd have to walk 125k steps in a week to get that), so the total maximum unlocked points is 350 in the first week. I think that the Blackmores thing is ongoing, so you can possibly earn that 200 weekly until the promotion ends (I'm not walking 125k, but I can do 75k, so 150 points for me).

Further, you can stockpile the locked points and then briefly join their insurance program at the lowest cost policy to cash in on the sign up bonus points and cash out whatever you've earned in the app, then cancel the policy. Not sure how well that works out in terms of $/points though (not planning on doing it).

    • Confirmed, the Blackmores thing is ongoing until the Sydney running festival, so about 8 more weeks x max 200 points without having to buy insurance.

"Run With Blackmores’ weekly step challenge in the Qantas Assure App until 11:59PM 18 September 2016." - https://www.qantasassure.com/wellness/partners/blackmores

    • Another bonus is that for the QFF program "A joining fee usually applies. However, this will be waived if you join when you download the Qantas Assure App." - there are lots of ways to do this though, but this does add another.
