  • reading past thread, now i am looking for 16:10 or wider only monitors. not a gamer, just browsing and multi apps tabs etc

    • looking for 16:10 or wider only

? You mean narrower. 16:10 is narrower than standard monitors including the above U2414H.

      • ah yes, i mean super ultra wide kind of LG Panorama monitor that emerged few times in ozb.
so i can put 2 chromes side by side.
        21:9 ratio

        • But 16:9 is more than wide enough for 2x A4 on a 24".
Most people complain that it is too short.

  • A good deal no doubt. Although it may be worth considering that the brand new version is $389 for which you get 2 extra years of warranty (total of 3).

    Just a thought.

An extra $160 for an extra 2 years of warranty seems a bit silly for an item costing $229. May as well just buy another if it dies. They're also pretty unlikely to die in years 2-3 in my experience.

So your thought is that spending $160 more is worth it because it insures you against an extremely unlikely event happening even though the item's value is $229.

If you insured a $500,000 house this way off the top of my head you'd be paying $300,000.

      • I think of it this way. This item is classified 'as new'. That probably means it was refurbished in some way. Now if Dell had full confidence in their refurbishment, they would not hesitate to back it up with a full warranty. As they do not, they only give it one year.

I judge a manufacturer's warranty as a gauge of confidence. So while it is extremely unlikely for a brand new unit to break down within 3 years, I judge it unwise to assume the same is true for these models.

Call it overly cautious but either way, it doesn't hurt to consider it.

        • "As New" from Dell means it was bought buy someone but never opened. Usually a return shipment from businesses etc. It's not "refurbished" at all.

        • @MissKitty: I didn't know that. Thank you for the information.

This model has DisplayPort MST which is cool. U2412M doesn't, which is 16:10 and can be had for similar price at the DFO.

  • +1

If you wanted to go brand new it can be had from FUTU on ebay with the CTEC20 sale for $279.20 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-U2414H-24-LED-LCD-Computer-M…

  • these monitors any good for gaming?

    • I suppose it depends on the game you play and how stringent your requirements are. I do use this as my gaming monitor but in no way consider myself a 'pro'. Nor do I play a lot of twitch shooters or MOBA games which may demand the absolute smallest lag.

Aside from that, colours are good. Resolution is sharp enough and yeah, they're basically good monitors.

    • Surprisingly yes, 4ms lag time and good response times

  • really tempted between this and the Acer 25" for sis

  • Seems to me all gone.
