  • Hoe come no one is mentioning the extra 5% off with code/coupon. Are all these items excluded?

    • NVM, just saw EC's post

    • +1

Not sure. I just added that to the post.

    • +1

5% coupon code works :) I just purchased HTCT390 with extra $15 off with 5% coupon.

    • +6

No one is mentioning? You made the first comment..

  • +2

Can anyone recommend any of these?

    • +4

I would buy the Sony HTCT390 with 300W total output power for $60 more than the Sony HTCT180 with just 100W. You get HDMI feedback as well as Optical.

      • +1

Are these overkill if I live in an apartment? I dont want to piss off my neighbors

        • Nope. Soundbars are great for improving the sound from your television. I was gonna go down the same route by found a great deal on an Onkyo 5.1 HT setup.

        • @nayfon: Hey what was the Onkyo you found? Wasn't sure if they were any good, and trying to find a nice 5.1 or 5.1.2 setup under 1k

        • @nelga: Found it at a JB Hifi store in Sydney. Basic 5.1 receiver (SR313), but the bundled speakers were the main driver for the purchase (SKF-4800 / SKS-4800). Something like this: http://www.avaustralia.com.au/onkyo-4800-5-1-speaker-pack/

Total cost including decent speaker cables (can't remember the gauge) was under $700.

I got the HTCT380, I'm assuming its the old model for the 390, anyway its great, I'm not an audiophile or anything but it's perfect for my mid sized living room, good bass, and has speaking mode for those annoying movies where the speaking is too soft.

  • I am using HTXT100 with (high class) laptop and projector to watch movies and play games in about 20m2 room. The sound is clean, the base is deep and nice, loudness is good enough (not super loud but I wouldn't use greater volume anyway, cinema-like loudness in these conditions is achievable). Also works nice as a BT speaker using smartphone. Seriously considering another one to another room. Would recommend to a friend (actually did ;)). Probably not yet a proper home cinema system but soo much better than any other 'computer speakers' I have. And this is the cheapest one here…

    • +2

uhh… I have HTXT1 which is 170W, not HTXT100 … please neg my previous comment or keep that in mind -_-'

  • I have a 55 inch Samsung UA55J6200 TV any recommendations for this TV . I was considering samsung HW 551 is on sale at HN for $388.

  • +2

Man if only I could find one in silver to match my LG TV which has a silver surround!

    • +1

Try using silver spray paint :P

  • Thanks OP got the CT390.

  • Sony soundbars are great. I was going to get a Bose 130 but these are very tempting.

edit: I'd get the Sonos if it weren't as ugly as hell

  • Bought my parents a refurb HTCT180 from the Sony Seconds store during the last eBay 20% off… decent basic soundbar but I was shocked to find you can't control the volume with the remote for the Sony TV KDL50W800C I bought at the same time. You expect that to be one of the main benefits of using the same brand for TV and soundbar.

    • Did you set it up HDMI ARC?

      • +1

Doesn't have HDMI in, just digital audio, analog audio and bluetooth. But you would think they would just make the remote signals compatible.

  • Sony HTNT5 vs Philips Fidelio B5? I can get the Philips for around $50 more..

    • B5 has good reviews for sound quality. Personally I dislike the Philips brand.

HYNT5 is new and a little unknown. Worth the risk though, everything indicates it should be an excellent unit.

      • I ended up purchasing the Sony. They had an ex-demo Philips HTL9100 (the model prior to the B5) for $550, but the Sony was more feature-rich and I believe has Dolby TrueHD and Dolby DTS-HD decoding unlike the Philips.

  • +1

hey all, any reason the soundbars are talked about so highly, but no-ones mentioned the 5.1 ht-rt3 system. is that not a better buy at the same price as a decent soundbar? am i missing something?

    • +1

It has bad reviews on the net about a loud fan in the woofer. also it is wired.

  • Great buy.
Was looking at a sound bar when I got my new Sony TV a couple years ago then forgot about it till every time I watch a movie and the voice was often too soft to hear anything without cranking up the volume to annoy everyone.
Just purchased the HT-CT390. (Really couldn't care less about 5.1)

  • Which is better - HTXT100 or HTCT390?
    How about HTRT3 vs HTCT390?

  • Guys I'm tossing up between htct390 and newish second hand jbl sb 400. The sb 400 is about $80 extra. Any thoughts??

  • i have the Sony HTXT100 which i paid $169 delivered back in December from the sony store and I have nothing but good things to say about it. easy to use, great sound, bluetooth and I use it with my samsung series 7 65 in tv. could not be happier.

    • I was about to buy this from JB but the guy said that for my
Open plan living room and the fact I have a 50 inch TV it's best I don't get it as the sound plate type of sound bar is more for small TVs and if I pair it with a big TV there's barely any difference in sound quality. Hearing u say that you're happy with its sound with a 65inch TV makes me feel like I got duped -_-' . Ended up getting the HTCT390

      • +1

Maybe i am not that hard to please. I am no expert when it comes to these things but i am happy with my purchase.

      • +2

Yeah that sounds like a massive load of crap.
ANY sound bar would be better sound than the speakers on 90% of the TV's out there and the size of the TV certainly has zero relevance to the quality of it's speakers.

    • -1

      Does your Tv have Bluetooth?

  • been waiting for this.
bought the 55w800c last year and now the htct390.

  • +1

Just bought a KD55X8500D today & now added the HTCT390 from this deal.
Back to the money tree out the back…

  • Just got the htct390. Been looking for a Sound bar for ages!. Can't justify paying $1k for the Sonos so I hope this will do

  • The ones including 2.2 copy protection are probably great. Very happy with my now older model that has it. Connected to my 4k monitor.

    • What are the benefits of having the soundbar with 4K connections? I have a 4k TV with 2.2 and bought the 390, should I have bought the htnt5?

  • What is the best value soundbar/home theatre here. Roughly a 20-25 sqm room, would the htc 390 or RT3 be better for surround sound and just general tv viewing. Both cost the same, however the Rt3 is 5.1 as opposed to 390 being 2.1? Which would be better for general live tv viewing (sports, news, tv shows etc.) and which would be better for movies (not used very often for this)

    • im also in the market for a sound bar.
did a quick search and a few ppl complained about the really loud subwoofer fan on the rt3.

think i might pick up the 390 tonight
i also get 7.5% off gc through work, which brings it down to 277 :)

      • +1

shouldve used 5% discount code from the email!

        • Thanks will do!!
          Save another $15 sweeetttt

  • Just grabbed the 390. Good price, Sony Store couldn't get close to matching.

  • Any body can help me . Does it suits to Samsung series 6 TV. UA55J6200
    TIA

  • Thanks OP, just grabbed the HTXT100. Will go nicely with my new Sony Bravia 55" KD55X8000C 4K Ultra HD LED TV. I have heard of voice sync issues in certain situations, hope it's not the case for me.

  • It's probably too late posting this but the jbl charge 2+ is better value and sounds excellent/loud without taking up 2 ac outlets.

This small speaker is BETTER than my $300 Panasonic soundbar and on par with my Sony Htct780 I got from last year's Xmas sale for $330

What makes jbl better is cause of its form factor, 12 hour battery, $120,has usb slot to charge your phone if tv lacks one and you can just use an audio cable to connect it to ANY tv that don't have optical/hdmi.

I'm just really impressed with this little speaker that can fill an entire room without breaking a sweat, soundbars are ok but my Panasonic sound bar is either never on or the bass is switched off. The wireless freedom and small form factor is great for every day use for both inside and outside the house.

Just price match the HT CT390 with bing lee. Luckily I registered my amex card for the bing lee spend $300 get $50 back promo last month. Ask them to charge me $300 so effectively I only paid $250 for the speaker. Now I just have to find a good deal on TV.

I love this community, ask if anyone has a spare code and within 2 minutes @1bug and @Naniamar send me their codes. They don't know me from a bar of soap but still help a brother out. I'll make sure I pay it forward!

      edit Bought the 390

  • Signed up the newsletter, and no voucher code received, Does anyone can send me a coupon code? Thanks.

  • Where can I buy the wireless rear speakers to add to the soundbar? Can't seem to find them on the sony website.

  • No code in the welcome email, anyone has a spare one please?

  • Also after a 5% code here if anyone has a spare one they aren't going to use

  • Does anyone have a spare 5% code to share with me that they aren't going to use?

  • With 4K you might want to make sure the sound bar has HDCP 2.2, otherwise when Ultra HD content comes out it's not going to work :-/

    • Bugger, will have to buy the 790 or htnt5 then

  • Does anyone have another 5% code they would be willing to share?

    • Anyone? Really keen to save another $30!

  • Any more 5% codes please 😊

    • Only 30 minutes before it ends, not looking good for us getting anymore codes :-(

    • Just found mine in my junk folder!! Oops.

      • -1

If you're not going to use it would you mind sending it to me in a PM?

  • +2

Thanks so much for posting this! Grabbed a HT-NT5

    • +1

      Just wondering how's the htnt5?

Not an audiophile.. got the 390 last night but was a bit disappointed with the sound. Bass is decent but treble is worse than my inbuilt..

      • +4

It's very very good. Sussing the best soundbar under $1000, it is probably the pick of the bunch, better than the Philips Fidelio B5 (highly rated and great in its own right) and the Bose Cinemate 15 - which I previously owned. It's very feature rich and the 3 HDMI inputs support HDCP 2.2. Could not justify the Sonos + sub at nearly 4 times the cost. In saying that, i wouldn't pay a thousand for it, but $599 was a steal.

        • +1

          Cheers, thanks for that!

The 390 was ok but my lg tv has Harman kardon speakers built in, so wasn't too happy with the $300 non-upgrade..

Might try to return it today and see if they can do the nt5 for $599 :p

How's the subwoofer on the nt5 btw? I read a review on the nt5 with very good mid and high, but Bass was somewhat lacking. Thoughts?

          Thanks in advance!!

        • +1

@chew_chew: All good. The bass is indeed lacking a bit, mine is set at near maximum and I find it to be sufficient. However, if you like deep bass you may be a bit disappointed. I'd see if they can honour yesterday's price, they still have a day or two grace period with their supplier rebates (used to work their).

        • +1

          @Plasma:
Went in tonight and managed to get one for the same price as last night!

Much better sound quality compared to the 390. Very happy well worth the upgrade :)

        • @chew_chew:
Great negotiating ang good tip from @Plasma.

Was wondering why everyone seemed to have gone for the 390. I also thought the nt5 was the pick of the bunch. the 390 seemed to distort on the demo tape (piano of all things) when volume was about 75% - a test you'd just never do at home.

      • Thanks for your feedback, I'd been wondering about the 390 — I had some doubts about the very thin design.

  • Just got the HTHC390

  • Anyone received their orders yet?
