    • Very soon, just need a few buyers.

      • Yes 3 buyers needed to kick start this deal.

  • +2

    Wouldnt mind this.

Sadly its not going to happen.

  • +5

good deal. love this router, doubled the speeds of my standard optus NBN router. Im actually getting close to the claimed 100/40 mbps speeds.

    • Of course, ISP's have multiple incentives (cost, network usage) to give you the worst hardware available, never use ISP hardware unles it's unavoidable - but it should be noted that a $30 gigabit ethernet router will do that (if you don't require wifi) and you can spend a great deal less provided you don't want many wifi devices connecting at once with high speeds.

      • Oh I didn't know ISPs incentives for multiple hardware. But I have a family of 5 with two TVs with an Xbox one and Apple tv both streaming Netflix, brother who games and laptops and phones each. So this router does wonders for my situation.

  • +10

Eliminated my needs for WIFI extenders in the house. It penetrates almost everywhere.

    • +55

      ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • can this improve standard adsl2 speed and wifi too? i dont mind going bridge mode.

    • +1

Wifi - possibly, if it is faster than your current wifi router
ADSL2 speed - probably not, as you'll be going through the same modem

  • +1

Deal is on. Bargain thanks OP.

  • +1

+1 from me on this router - got it on an ebay group by for 200ish a while back. Way better than previous routers with promoted extension. Software easy to setup but with enough control to do more - updates have been relatively frequent. 5k band sharing is a little flaky (supposed to balance them itself but doesnt do a great job)

  • +1

Excellent router got it when DSE had it on sale. Married up with NBN 100/40, 24/7 torrents and excellent WiFi range I've been very happy with this router.

  • -6

I dont get why people buy this… nbn is not 1gbps yet.

    • It's pretty good if you've got a few PCs in the house and want to share files between them and/or a NAS.
The only real use a normal consumer will get out of it though is if your family has a lot of devices connected at once.

  • +1

    Great router and price.

  • +2

Is this a better wireless router or the ubiquiti ac pro?

  • +1

Newbie question. That much better than the R7000?

    • Possibly if you have a lot of devices or a very busy LAN.

    • +1

I am wondering the same thing. This confused me: http://www.cnet.com/au/products/netgear-ac3200-nighthawk-x6-…

      • +1

so much negative stuff about this router in that article and its comments. Not sure if this is a good buy..

        • +1

Had the nighthawk for months, hasnt missed a beat. Can get wifi all over the house at full bars whereas i couldnt get it at the back of the house at all with my old router

  • I am unable to get the $228 price. Link price is $285 & I don't see anywhere to punch in the discount code.
Can someone please let me know where I'm being dumb ?

    • Might put it in after you commit to buy?
I'm not willing to check it though…

      • +3

I have commitment issues. 57 of them. =)

  • I am currently with iiNet nbn fixed line technology. Is this all I need to replace my standard iiNet router they gave me?

    • Yes

    • If it's FTTN, then No. If it's FTTP, then Yes.

    • Only issue is that this does not support VOIP or iinet netphone.

  • -1

I was charged $285.00 where is the price of $228.00?? or did i miss putting in some sort of code?

    • CTEC20

  • how good are the parental controls on this? My Asus ac68 is awesome in relation to this and was hoping this might be the same.

  • +6

I paid $320 for this at JB. It's been a useful router. It's got standard 2.4GHz and 5GHz freqs. 5GHz is great speed when you're close but not so good if it's in another room. Good device for a busy household.

Finally: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE DON'T CHANGE YOUR WLAN CHANNELS OFF THE STANDARD 1, 6 or 11. Choosing anything in between just means you overlap with multiple other channels and slows things down not only for yourself, but everyone!

  • +4

Anyone else think this looks like a dead robotic cockroach?

    • +1

More like a dead robotic beetle to me.

    • +1

Only slightly better looking than the R7000 which looks like someone ran over Darth Vaders head.

  • This does not include a modem right?

    • +2

      Correct, just a router.

  • And… bought, hopefully sell my R7000 for a few $$$ to justify this purchase!

  • I currently have an optus netgear router/modem but the wifi is pretty bad, would the speeds improve if I still used that device but in conjunction with this one? Or is it more better to just buy another router/modem device?

    • +1

I too, am in your situation. I've always wondered if a fast router will do anything if the cable internet modem that optus customers are supplied with is slower than the router. Anyone?

  • I wonder what's the modem you guys think is best to pair up with these monster router?

    • Any cheap modem will do like w8960n

  • +1

Hey guys looking for excellent range through brick walls, I'm thinking the asus ac68u would be a better option for me as we dont have that many devices, only about 10-15. Thanks

  • I was just about to get buy a rt-ac68u then i saw this.
I don't need tri band at the moment. But i don't mind future proofing for an extra $50 over the 68u.

It seems like a better deal considering its tri band. Just wondering why people would consider something like rt-88u or ac5300 over this?

    • I was looking at a review at it was saying 2.4ghz and 5ghz performance at range was better on the asus. I'm in the same boat debating between the 2, will be getting nbn(HFC) in the next couple of months so preparing for that. Is the tri-band worth the money, I will go for this is it has similar range

      • The Asus is also $53.60 cheaper at the moment.

    • You won't need this if you're going to live in Australia for another 10years. 1.9mbps is sufficient enough.

This is good if you have 15+devices connected with busy traffic or you live in an acre house or brick wall.

  • Anyway to get this and have it posted to Auckland, New Zealand?

  • Great deal….this or the Asus RT-AC68U..

  • +1

Just an FYI, if your house is double brick/stone walls, you can get the best WIFI router in the market but it won't make a huge difference, learn from me, having spent ~$500 on various routers… otherwise this is a good price, paid $100 more a year ago.

    • Yeah prob better to pay more and go to a physical store that allows you to return it if it doesn't do the job? I'm looking for a router to go through three brick walls but I don't think it is possible?

      • Same issue. Long skinny house too many brick walls. I ended up using Powerline and a second wifi router. It's working great except when I'm on a skype or viber call and I forget and walk between the two wifi points.
        - first world problems

        • Can you expand a bit more on your setup? Which powerline product did you buy?

Telstra does not have open ports for broadband connection in my house. Neighbour has agreed to share his WiFi and am trying to find out ways to improve his wireless network's speed in my house.

        • @sridhar:

          Sure no problem.
          2x Billion 7800 NXL
(Routers are 2years old and going strong) Not the fastest but reliable.

2x Netcomm Powerline with Gigibit Ethernet
          http://www.netcommwireless.com/product/powerline/np507

Router 1: Master. Modem, WIFI, DHCP Router > Powerline Out
Router 2: Slave. Powerline In > Switch for living room devices. WIFI (Same WIFI name and channel).

Routers are set to restart themselves 1x a week. Powerline is pretty consistent. Only need to restart a couple of times in the last year.

  • +1

I bought this at full price(ouch), but I can vouch for its quality! Great Router

  • Will this router help me overpower neighbour wifi? 6 antenna's surely would out muscle most other routers and enable my signal dominate

    • depends on how big his is😁

  • What about Linksys EA9200? Does having 6 antenna on Netgear X6 makes a big difference compare to 3?

  • Would this offer much more wifi coverage and speed than a TP-Link AC1750?

    • No doubt bruh.

  • Hi - can you plug a mobile broadband modem/dongle into the USB slot and will it work?

  • Does this one work with fttn nbn?
With most of the modem on sale right now which one would be the best to buy for a fttn nbn service??

    • In my experience with NBN needing a modem (i.e. FTTB or FTTN), one should buy the modem from their ISP and that will be guaranteed to work. Usually these modems do not have good WiFi so to fulfil that need, you buy one of these routers and hook it up to that modem.

The one posted in this deal is just a router and not a modem so NO it won't work with FTTN Connection ON ITS OWN.

  • How good is Futu Online in regards to warranty?
It is only $70 more at MSY.

  • Was it any lower in the past or is this the best deal?

  • Hi. Will this work by attaching it to the existing Optus Netgear wifi modem we have? (which is useless)

    • Same question from me. If the optus modem is slow, will a fast router coming out of the modem actually provide faster wi-fi?

      • Seperate the two things.

The wifi router can't give you more speed for Web surfing than what your modem is bringing into your place (it's limited by the bandwidth coming in).

The high tech routers will give you potentially much better performance for other types of wifi traffic, e.g. streaming video within your place (from a local NAS device to other devices) i.e. not internet traffic (that type of traffic is limited to the above paragraph). So could be beneficial for lots of people streaming live video etc or doing file transfers internally. Also potentially better coverage and wifi signal.

Thus my Q below on maximising internet speed into my place and good wifi for other stuff - all in one….see post below…

        hope that helps….

        • Cheers. I guess I'll give it a miss then. Unless I can find a really fast CABLE modem to use with it.
No one transfers files in my house….all my kids seem to be downloading games or watching netflix at the same time. Doesn't sound like the nighthawk will help with this :(

  • Can I pair this up with a Netcomm N300 modem that I am currently using. Got this from TPG and it's been working terrible recently.

Are there any recommendation for a Model + Router

    • ASUS DSL-AC68U (modem+router) is a good choice for ADSL or VDSL.

      • Similar boat, with TPG internet speeds (ADSL) not great and I get the router won't help that bit, but is the above a good option for excellent wifi in the house and best internet speeds over the ADSL connection? Std ADSL Netcomm not spectacular
