    No Gyroscopey for pokemon go :/.. still a good price tho

    • +2

      Isn't that what an Accelerometer is?

      • +3

        I think "Gyroscopey" is one of the Pokemon characters in the game!

        • -6

          Geez people here can be little tyrants. It was clearly a joke. Why the hell is it being down voted?!?!?

      • +3

        Nope, they're two different things. An accelerometer detects acceleration, a gyroscope measures rotation.

        The iPhone always had an accelerometer, but didn't get a gyroscope until the iPhone 4. The Wii Remote always had an accelerometer, but didn't get a gyroscope until the Motion Plus.

        • +2

          Ahh! Good to know. I always just thought the accelerometers in phones also dealt with the rotation.

        • @NigelTufnel:

          Yeah, that particular link is total bullshit though:

          For example, among the first smartphones to make use of it was Apple’s iPhone 3GS with the introduction of such features as the compass app and shake to undo.

          This isn't true, the original iPhone and iPhone 3G had accelerometers, and shake to undo. The 3GS compass app works via, you guessed it, a compass, which is not an accelerometer or a gyroscope - the 3GS was the first iPhone with a magnetometer, which actually senses the Earth's magnetic field.

          Oh and this:

          An accelerometer is a compact device designed to measure non-gravitational acceleration.

          Also not true, an accelerometer also measures gravity as acceleration - on Earth, your phone's accelerometer will always read 9.8m/s towards Earth.

          There's probably more.

      • +1

        The game works fine without a gyro but can't be played in AR mode. That's how my phone is; i bought a cheap chinadroid and it's all fine except no gyro so you dont get the AR in pokemon go sadly.

        • How is the GPS?

        • @Scrooge McDuck:

          i use it all the time for navigation. it gets lock straight away compared to my Note 3 that takes literally forever to acquire lock -_-

        • +1

          @Scrooge McDuck: To be honest it is hard to know. It generally works fine but today i walked a k or so without it registering. That being said, it is impossible to know what are server-side issues with the game because there are so many. Im guessing most of the issues experienced with poke-go are server and not phone related? But as i say it's just hard to know given the plethora of probs with the servers atm

    • -6

      It's a sucky sucky phone for Pokemon Go. The GPS is horrible. You can run the battery down in 1.5 hours. It's frustrating to use. Sometimes it stops registering Pokestops and Pokemon and requires a restart.

      Solution is simple though. Stop playing Go. I'm down to 18 Pokeballs and once I'm out. I'm not buying them or grinding to get more. This game is a combination of pay to win and grind to win. The people who will dominate will do both.

      • +7

        I'm using the exact same phone for Pokemon Go and I haven't hit any of those issues. The issues where it stops registering pokemon/pokestop is actually a bug in the game and has nothing to do with the phone, same issue on all androids and iphones.

        Only issue is it really strains the CPU when you are in a highly populated area with 6 lures going on :)

        • The worst response in IT is "It works for me". The GPS in particular jumping around is fine sometimes and crazy others. It's not a great GPS. The game is intensive. I've seen it run quite a bit better even on a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. This phone is fine for $60 but pretending it's only issue is slightly slower CPU when you'll clearly get a better experience out of a better phone is misleading.

        • +2

          @syousef:

          The worst response in IT is "It works for me".

          Yet you, yourself, are providing nothing but an anecdotal statement as well.

        • -1

          @Cyphar:

          I think you have an issue with comprehension. "It works for me" is dismissive, implies the user is at fault, and ends all discussion. Almost every comment on Ozbargain is either annecdotal or points to an external source. So I don't understand why you are surprised that both our comments are annecdotal or what that has to do with "It works for me" being a bad answer to any concern.

      • you BUY poke balls?

        • -1

          I don't. But you can. One guy on another Ozbargain thread said he used $130 of credit that was "about to expire" on Pokemon credit. I'm not going to buy them, that's for sure.

      • Lol sorry but grinding is the same as the original pokemon games
        There's free pokeballs everywhere mate unless you live rural

        • -1

          You might have that kind of spare time. More power to you. I don't.

      • i have a htc M9 and i crash out of the app all the time lots of different issue's, highly doubt its the phone rather the app and the servers behind the app that cause the problem, i know my friends iphone had the same problem so alot of issue's you do experience can are most likely app/server related :)

        • Yep, crashes/freezes for me all the time on an iPhone 6 & an iPhone 5S (particularly early morning & evening… I guess when Europe/USA are awake). GPS is jumpy sometimes too… I was sitting at home on the couch but in the game I was running to the middle of the next suburb. o.O

        • @lupiter: if it wasnt pokemon the game would have been slammed for all the bugs it has… they are just lucky they have such a big brand behind them … hehehe

        • @scud70: Yes, this game is really terrible I should stop playing and delete it. It also means I have to carry around a portable battery charger.

          Can't. Stop. D:

        • @lupiter:

          nobody in this thread will get out of Pogo's grasp, nobody. try it

      • All the issues you mentioned are server related and happen on all phones. Nothing to do with the specific phone.

    Buzz makes for a great hotspot.

    • +3

      Been using it as good 4GX hotspot since Telsta deal end of last year ($53 delivered after cash back, with free Monster Headphones). Unlocked on eBay.

      • +1

        Mine was $56.70 pick up from Dick Smith (actually a little bit less as I used discounted DSE gift cards for part of the payment). No free headphones :(

      • Ha I got that deal! I have had the phone replaced already as the screen died, also the headphones (BNIB) turned up with a ripped earphone! They sent me another one out but in a different colour…

    • Yeah I was wondering if I should purchase this for this purpose. How long does the battery last if I only use it as a hotspot? Thanks

      • A little hard to tell, as I also use for internet access on phone - posting on it now.

      • +1

        I use it purely as a hot spot. It gets me through a 10hr shift at work no problems.

        • wow that's nuts, thanks for the info

      • Specs show 2200mAh battery. Also 10 hours talk time.

      • If you're hammering it on 4G (think Telstra free data days), it should last 3-4 hours from my experience. Normal use- probably 8-10+ hours.

  • Has Android 5 and cheap unlocks on eBay …..I used to have one also has band 28 4G .

  • +1

    I use this phone for Pokemon GO, Works but can't use AR mode.

    • +2

      AR mode off is easier to catch pokemon anyway I think

  • What does it take and how much does it cost to unlock this phone?

  • about $5 to unlock on ebay iirc.
    It's a pretty good phone for the price.
    Ideal for use as a Wi-Fi hotspot

  • -1

    pretty good pice. But 8gb is too low, with latest Android, its hard to manage space as Google apps eats most of the space while many apps can't be move to memory card. Changing default storage location is also pain for normal users*

    • +1

      It's an excellent phone for the price. That doesn't make it an excellent. Phone. It's a very passable phone, especially for those who don't play games. It's not going to compete with a flagship model.

      • +1

        An excellent phone for the price DOES make it an excellent phone in general. It would meet the needs of anybody that would only want to spend that much for a phone. Many flagship phones are NOT an excellent phone, despite asking $1k for them.

        • -1

          You are setting people's expectations too high which guarantees some will be disappointed. And whatever twits are going around and down voting any remark I make can just go get a life.

      • Unsure why people downvoted. You're right. Good luck getting more than 8GB in a $59 phone.

        • +1

          It's $59 phone, what more can you expect?

  • I used the 4g buzz as my work phone for a while. After about 8 months the power button started acting up intermittently, I took it to a Telstra shop and they gave me what looked like a new one a few days later. Apart from that it seems like a pretty sold basic phone.

  • +2
  • I have a similar ZTE phone from Optus. It's no Samsung GS7 or iPhone 6, but it's a great mid-range phone for an entry level price. WiFi hotspot is excellent.

    It does have an accelerometer, but I don't think this phone has a compass (if that matters to you).

  • +2

    Great lil phone to be used as a backup, GPS or hotspot. Best basic phone in the market.

  • has anyone owned a Tempo (ZTE815) and upgraded to this phone?
    Was the extra internet speed noticable?
    How is it's wifi, strong to connect over distance?

  • Anyone tried towelroot on this phone, would be good to be able to remove some of the boat and free up some space.

  • +3

    Woolworth has the Optus ZTE Blade 4G for half price $49.50. Is this Telstra 4GX Buzz similar to the ZTE Blade?

    • +4

      It looks similar.
      This is Telstra's Blade http://www.ztemobiles.com.au/feature_Blade_QLux.htm
      This is Optus' Blade http://www.ztemobiles.com.au/Blade_D.htm

      • +1

        Biggest difference between two phones above apart from 4.5" v 5" screen is for 3G reception 850 MHz v 900MHz, so will only work properly either Telstra or Optus, even when unlocked, both pretty poor for Vodafone for most places.

        • Ya, cellar data doesn't work for my Optus ZTE Blade 4G (Unlocked) on Vodafone. Calling works fine for me although.

        • +1

          @Garbage Doll:

          Have you checked your APN settings are set correctly for Vodafone? That Optus ZTE Blade 4G should work for data if set correctly in a strong signal area ( although fairly weak and slow as missing the 3G 850 band and 4G B5 850 too. Just depends on area which frequency the towers are using as opposed to different regions. Same applies to Optus and Telstra if using a phone missing bands ( older model or by other carrier or phones from other countries ).

        • +1

          @ozhunter68: Oh ya, i forgot to reset the APN settings. It works now, thank man xD

        • @Garbage Doll:
          How's your 3G/4G signal? You might be lucky getting a 3G signal off a 900 MHz tower there for Vodafone.
          I was using an unlocked Optus ZTE FIT Smart 4G ( similar if not the same bands to your phone ) on the Vodafone network in my semi regional area, and was draining battery fast and getting hot, as was straining to get signal strength for data and even calls.

        • @ozhunter68: is very weak around my area (2 bars) on both on my ZTE Blade 4G and Nokia Lumia 1320. Sometimes it drops out there & there. I can get 3G/4G signal if I go further out of my area.

  • This would be great for streaming Spotify through the car stereo - just leave it in the glovebox with a 4GX data connection.

    • That's a spiffy idea! Any ideas of a cheap prepaid data plan?

      • Optus has data free music streaming. I've used it in the car with (unlocked) Buzz phone wirelessly connected to Bluetooth head unit. Works great.

        • Is that available on prepaid?

        • @PrinceHairy:
          I only use prepaid - yes.
          (free $10 Optus SIMs 😎)

        • @Infidel:
          On which Optus Prepaid offer/plan did you connect sim to get free music streaming?

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:
          Available in all prepaid - check Optus deals a while back.
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/245504
          It's on street advertising, in store ads… And I said above which SIMs I used - free ones.

          (now with 3 months free Google Music as well)

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:
          Updated with links above
          For eligible daily plans streaming will trigger a day's usage.

        • @Infidel:
          Thanks for the update. Thought it would be too good to be true to get this free streaming service on the Optus Prepaid $2 A Day Plan without having an activated day. Works on the $30 and $40 My Prepaid Ultimate as well as the $30 My Prepaid Daily Plus ( $2 A Day / 6 month expiry ), but have to have an active day to stream.

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:
          I got a stack of free $10 Optus SIMs from Coles Express a while back. So truly free streaming on $2 days, when I need to use extra 500MB.
          $1 days have been recenty discontinued.

        • +1

          @Infidel:

          "A stack of free $10 Optus Sims", lucky you for that. Did they have a decent time left before they were to expire? Even for $2 unlimited calling/txt, 500MB data and free unmetered music streaming is good value>

        • @ozhunter68:
          Expire end of 2016.
          12 left = 60 days free music & 30GB free data 😎
          Another good deal from OzBargain.

        • @Infidel:

          Wow, how did you get them for free? Missed that one :-( I always like your informed comments.

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:
          Why shucks, thanks.
          My informed comments are usually my way of working out if I want the deal - I usually talk myself out of it.

          You probably forgot the deal - it was a long time ago… Free $10 Optus Sim Starter Pack (for ING / Coles MC Users - $1 Otherwise) @ Coles Express & has been $1 at other times.

          Most people wouldn't keep those SIMs stockpiled for 8 months! But I've got a lot of free or $1 Starter Packs.

          (Was searching through my stockpile of previous OzBargains yesterday & found 12 🆓 smart phones & a 🆓 tablet I'd forgotten about🎉 Pity those are crap devices, so put in storage until I find a use.)

  • Also on the in the same brochure are Telstra 4 g modems (MF90) $29 ..MF 823 for $19 with 2gb startup data

    http://catalogue.auspost.com.au/catalogue/stock-up-this-wint…

  • Does it have google play?

    • +1

      Yes of course.

  • I think the EMTEC is this one,
    http://m.alibaba.com/guide/shop/emtec-click-b100-128gb-usb-3…

    Price is reasonable
    Read 80mb/s max
    Write 12mb/s max

    I believe this device uses TLC memory

  • IMO an Android phone with 1G RAM (or less) will run painfully slow - unless you have barely an apps on it. I think you need 1.5G min nowadays.

    • +1

      1G is acceptable for light multitasking. 512M is the real 'painfully slow' if you ever used one.

      • +1

        lol I remember those dark days … they were unusable years ago, I'd imagine they're catatonic on the latest apps and OS.

        I have a first gen Nexus 7 (1G RAM) with virtually nothing installed and it's pretty horrible even for browsing.

        • +1

          That's probably less to do with the fact that it's got 1GB RAM, and more to do with the fact that the parts are 4 years old.
          My TF300T is in the same boat, although it does most things okay. I mostly use it for AFL and YouTube streaming though, but chrome browsing is slow.

        • +1

          @NigelTufnel:
          After using various Andoid phones and tablets ( also apple ) over the years, most slow down a bit when filling up with apps and other stuff in memory. But the biggest slow downs seem to happen when you have major software updates. The best gadget still working smoothly after two years is a Nexus 4 on stock 5.1.1 ( yes, has 2G ram :-) My Nexus 7 ( 1G ram ) also running slow after the Lollipop update with minimal apps.

        • @ozhunter68:

          Funnily enough my Nexus 7 seems to have become 'ok' today. It did some app optimisation and all OK so far.

        • @syme321:
          Interesting,….did you do that manually? If so how?

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:
          No it happened on a restart.
          (Chrome is still not great, but Firefox is fine)

  • Is this deal still on? I went to post office and it's $99

  • unlock for $2.62 Just had mine done.
