Optus Online Only Offer. $40 Per Month. 10 Gig Data. Up to 300 Min International Talk to Selected Countries Plus EPL. 12mths

1530

Hi guys,

I have checked to make sure this isnt a dupe. If so, apologies and please delete.

Seems that Optus are running this fantastic offer again.

$40 per month, you get 10 gig of data, unlimited calls, upto 300 selected international minutes and EPL. Usual stuff for international SMS / MMS to selected countires also.

Seems this is for new and recontracting services…which is good as previously has been for new customers only.

Obviously, check coverage in area before you decide if this is right for you or not.

I have excellent Optus coverage in my area and, since they have activated VOLTE, has been even better.

Thanks!!!

I'm not sure if I did something wrong, but I tried to sign up for this plan yesterday for the EPL package and found that it doesn't seem like this deal is eligible for a unidays discount. With a unidays discount, I could get the same deal but with 8GB for $36.

    • Just a follow-up to my own post, it looks like even though the website only allowed me to use the student discount through the 8GB plan signup, a rep indicated to me that my order did indeed state that my plan included the 10GB, with 2GB as bonus data.

      • I also got the unidays discount to work when I purchased the plan. The next day however I received an email titled 'keeping you in the know' which had a link to my contract and critical info summary and the unidays discount had not been applied. $40 a month still and the total cost hadn't been adjusted with the unidays code. Happen to anyone?

  • +2

Students can get 10β„… off their monthly payment

    • Actually I think victinini is correct.

  • I just signed up to this yesterday but it's 6gb plus 2gb extra data for 12 months. Is this a data plan or a plan with calls? as if so it's exactly the same but with another 2gb from yesterday!

    • see if you can have a chat with online? Not sure what traction you will gain but its worth a shot!!!

Is there a cooling off period???

      • Just went to chat. Automatically out me on it yesterday and applied my unidays code so $36!!!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

        • Is unidays considered dhood enough for student discount?

        • @expertreader: I think unidays asks permission to access your uni account and then validates it so they then require the generated code but yes it appears to be enough.

        • @seraphim2017: I just checked online and you can simply buy the card. Do they issue another card when they confirm student status? Sorry for the question but I am amazed that companies trust commercial sites card as proof of being student.

        • @expertreader: no idea, I'm a student so it all validated online. I'd assume there is a check system so if you're not a student it wouldn't work, but then, if you're not a student, $40 a month for the deal is still cheap!

  • Awesome, didn't even realise I came off a crappy 24month contract a couple of days ago. More data and cheaper per month woot

    Thanks OP

  • Data rollover like the Virgin deal?

    • AFAIK none of Optus's deals do this.

      • All of their prepaid deals have data rollover.

        • I'm not terribly familiar with prepaid, sorry. I was meaning postpaid.

How does the epl stream work? Can use in phone only or laptop/computer?
    Stream good quality? Commentry good?

    • +1

You can watch the EPL on your phone/tablet/pc. Stream is very good. Comparable to Foxtel HD. If you watch the stream from your Optus mobile then data is not included in your quota

You can also pay $5 per month to get a Fetch TV mini set top box so you can watch it on your TV.

You can watch the EPL using any internet connection.

      • +3

Just to be clear it is not known how good the live stream is yet as the new season doesn't commence until August. The existing content is excellent but it remains to be seen how good it'll be on opening day of the season. Also the Fetch TV mini offers more than just EPL for $5 a month. You get 30 movies free a month plus can be used as your media hub for stan/presto/netflix etc along with FTA tv and the ability to order some paid tv services from optus (35 channel entertainment for $15 a month for a start)/

This is a sweet deal so plus one to the OP.

        • Hi, do you know if the entertainment package is required for BEIN sports for the fetch TV mini?

        • @victinini:

          Yes, it is.

        • is all mini fetch unmetered ?

        • @AliensStoleMyMoney: Only if you've got an Optus broadband package. Any other service provider will have data usage.

        • @geo365:

was looking at the 10 gb mobile broadband plan is that counted ?

      • Is it possible to stream from my computer or phone using chrome cast?

        • +1

Looking at the google play reviews I don't think there is chromecast functionality which is a bit shitty.

        • +1

"For the launch of the 2016/17 season we won’t be supporting Chromecast, Apps for Smart TVs or Gaming Consoles."

Probably coming sometime. The Fetch Mini from Optus is only $5 a month extra, no contract, and HD though.

      • If i don't have a separate internet connection and use the optus mobile data for fetch, will it count towards quota? Thanks

  • Can the 10% student discount be used with this?

    • +1

Yes, I was successful in signing up to this plan using my unidays discount.

  • Anyone had any luck with getting them to waive the "breaking the contract fee" on the $50 10Gb plan (or a similar flavour of this plan from a few months back)?

    • i got my fees waived when i signed up to this through OneBigSwitch last month. a lot of online chat to make it have though….ask for Retention…you will have more luck with them.

  • Anyone know if a student can get a discount on a second service?

    • +2

I have this plan twice and get discount on both. I don't use the second sim, but $72 for 20gb was a bargain

  • Thanks OP, just switch over from my month to month plan to this plan. Plus I'm getting $10 bundle discount. So come to $30/month for me.

  • How long is the contract length?

Edit: 12 months. Just re-read the title.

  • How does the bundled data thing work? Do I have to have some kind of monthly fee plan on my tablet in addition to my $40/mo phone plan to bundle the data allowances? Or can I get some kind of sim card for the tablet that just uses the data from my phone plan?

Im currently on a Vodafone $50/mo 10gb plan with no contract. How would people rate the Optus network generally?

    • Congested, at least where I am in vic. I had to move back to Vodafone.

      • Ah, I had heard the word congestion used in relation to Optus a bit in the past. I had hoped things had changed.

        • It totally depends on your area, I've had no problems at all on the optus network, but many on Vodafone.

    • im in the same boar as you in terms of currently having no contract, am with Telstra, and to be honest I dont think (personally) Optus or Vodafone could beat them in terms of reception/network coverage and loading YouTube Netflix etc. I use to have Optus and Vodafone about 8 years ago and my
God they were terrible, they definitely have upgraded since then, and I really want to go back and check them out seeing as they are so cheap, but I just handle having shitty service again :(, but these deals are so tempting

      • +2

I was on a Telstra contract which I paid out in order to switch to Vodafone due to their FAR superior signal in my workplace. Weird thing to say but it's the way it is. Since I switched Telstra has had numerous network downtime issues and my Vodafone service has been flawless.

Rural stuff is a completely different story of course. Voda may as well not exist outside major cities but that's where I am 95% of my time.

        • Yeh I work in the city (melb) and live in the inner suburbs ( about 15 min from the city) I honestly think it wouldn't be that bad, but I'm just scared to change :(, especially because once you do, it's usually 12 months, I know I can definitely switch to month to month and check it out there, but I'm just a tad lazy about that lol

        • @eltito:

I think Voda have a 30 day trial period thing?

    • I switched from voda to optus and I am finding optus network not as good as voda. I am mostly in melbourne CBD.

      • Brisbane is probably less stressed than Melbourne but I don't really want to downgrade :/

    10gb = pokemon?

      10gb = 10 Great Balls

  • Signed up to this deal a few days ago and can confirm works with unidays discount

  • What is Vodafone's answer to this deal?

    • Almost the same but only 8gb of data (if you sign up online for 12 months) and obviously no EPL

  • This is a pretty good deal. I just wonder if u can get similar with an iPhone 7 soon?

10gb deal plus phone for $80 a month.

    • Wouldn't that total less than the cost of the phone?

      • Presumably T1000 means over a 24 month contract, not 12 months?

        • Yups all my contracts have been 2 years.

  • Anyone know if I can add this to an existing plan so I can do Data share across both?

    • Sure can provided both service #s are under one account name.

      • Had a chat with optus online. Post paid you can on the My Plan Plus.

        Bugger :(

    Note7 + iconx + gearvr + epl + data pool = sure win

  • Anyone had the student uniday code I can use please?

  • I thought this deal had been around for a while now???

I spoke to the lady in the Optus shop about it 8 days ago
And my partner signed up for it last Sat.

    Is this somehow different?

  • With Data-Pool thing - how does the calling work ? Can the SIM have call balance at all ? Also this adds to more confusion:

"Data Pool gives you the convenience of one bill for all your eligible mobile plans, so that all the data inclusions of your connected devices become one. You can connect any combination of My Plan Plus (including SIM Only) mobile plans and My Mobile Broadband Plus plans."

    from: http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phone-plans/data-sharing

  • Deal is ripper! If anyone has a spare unidays code, can I please have one? much appreciated! xD

  • +1

everytime i try and sign up if get $45 per month (inc the fetch box) and then go to checkout and it changes to $60 .. anyone else got a unidays code they can share pls :)

    • It keeps coming up as $60 for me as well. Do I need a unidays code to get it to $45?

      • Happened to me, it's a bug in the website. Just use the online chat and they'll sort you out.

  • Going to assume as per previous deal posted this one is also non-eligible for the $5 data sim?

  • Can you get the unidays discount if the account holder is in year 11? If I get this for my son and I pay the bill?

  • This fetch mini for $5 a month, is it any good ?, or can I just buy one outright somewhere, e.g. Optus shop ? and works out cheaper ?

    • You can buy them retail from places like Harvey Norman but if you want the EPL, you have to get one from Optus for $5 a month. Mine hasn't arrived yet but a few people in this Whirlpool thread have them and are quite happy with it:

      https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2545422

You get all the FTA catch-up apps, Netflix/Stan/Presto apps, pause live TV, etc.

hmmm they made such a big fuss when OneBigSwitch had their $40/m 10gb offer, but literally the day after the campaign ends, they promote it.

  • Guys I have two Optus mobile services under one account, one being a 24 month contract and the other being month by month.

Now when I go to "change plan" section it won't give me the option for this $40 plan for either of the two services/phone. Any ideas why? Today being a Sunday no customer service unfortunately.

    • +1

Hi Choister, I was in the same situation where the plan doesn't show up in the 'change plan' situation.

So last night I used Optus' live chat to ask their representative if I could change all 3 of my mobile plans to this one (x1 sim only, x2 24 month contract). The rep will ask for your mobile number (any will do), date of birth and full name so they can check your account. The rep was able to change all three even though one of my 24 month plans was still within the 24 months. The rep will ask you to read the plan in detail before asking you to type 'Accept' and then they will give you a receipt number.

This morning I checked my emails and Optus emailed me 3 receipts (1 for each phone). Also checked my mobile plan and it has now switched to this plan.

      • Thanks UncleJill.

I was able to change over the sim only plan to the new $40 plan but they told me that I can't do the same for the one still under 24 month contract (as it was a plan for handset as well) without paying a termination fee. May be I'll try calling again in a couple of days.

    • +1

Same thing happen to me yesterday, I got month by month as well. I end up chatting online with the Optus reps, and they upgrade my plan to this within 10mins, the new plan take 24hrs to switch over, check and yes, it has switch over for me today. Also I didn't bother adding EPL because I don't want to cancel EPL at the end of this month.

      • Cool thanks for letting me know. EPL was extra cost of $15/month unless you are on a $80 plan apparently.

        • Not for this season - it's free for anyone who's on an eligible plan

  • I put this into my with the premier league deal, shows up as $55/month at Checkout. The premier league deal add on shows as $15/month at Checkout.

So, I ask the optus guy about this on live chat. He says he will help me set up the account, but then he tries to sell me internet TV and a broadband deal so I just left in annoyance, half an hour poorer.

    • You don't have to add premier league at sign up. You can register for that anytime before the 31st July.

  • I had an existing $30 month plan (with a measley 1.5gb data)and managed to get it switched to this via online chat. No extra fees, no dramas. Pretty happy!

  • Thanks to everyone & their comments, I am currently with Vodafone and I think after reading all the comments I might stay with them. I also might show then this deal and see what they can do to match it, as they pounce on you so as you ever enter their store, so I can fully understand acersaurus frustration.
Plus I want a new phone & don't want to be on a plan for that.
It does sound a great deal, so good on you who have signed up.
I do prefer Vodafone, just personal preference isnt it.
    Cheers :)

    • Voda has a similar $40 sim only 12 month deal on their website - only difference is 8gb data

  • -1

I'm technically not a student anymore, managed to use my Unidays after cancelling my Telstra contract early (Go Mobile 45).
Had just registered for Optus' $30/month prepaid plan with unlimited music streaming… but for an extra $6 month to get 10Gb is a no-brainer.

    Thanks Optus! Suck it, Telstra!

    • Did Telstra charge you any break fees?

      • +1

        No, but they should have.
I put it down to them making so many errors when initially setting up the plan that someone, at some point, accidentally marked my contract as ended, but continued with handset repayments. I paid out the balance of my handset and switched to optus.
I ended up breaking even (as in total telstra spend, handset payment fees included equated to $45/month in total over the past 12 months, when taking into account the price I sold the GS5 for ).
With optus it's now an extra 8gb/month for $9 less for me

      • Go mobile 45 plan is a casual month to month plan therefore no breakout fee.
