    Scary dangerous illegal uncertified

Please Aussies - don't buy this.

    • any recommendation similar to this with Australian seal of approval? haha, so much info out there dont know which 1 to pick

      • No, sorry

But the simple rule is that you won't generally get an AU Approved product from a Chinese website.

The old C-Tick and new RCM marks can ONLY be used and applied by companies with an ABN. The charger also needs to have a valid AU Standards test report AND a valid safety certification AND be registered for MEPS (3E website).

None of that will happen unless the product is actively being sold by a responsible importer / supplier here in Australia. No Chinese company is going to pay the $20K or so that it costs to do that stuff. They won't even bother testing, they just print the logos and she'll be right :-)

    • Well, it's not illegal …. Illegal to sell in Australia, yes, but not buy or use.

Dangerous. Possibly, but no more so than any generic China AC product.

Anker or BlitzWolf are two reputable china brands, that whilst don't have Australian certification do comply in every respect to the Australian standard if you a compliant figure 8 cable. Plenty of tear-downs and reviews on the web.

Illegal for DD4.com and Ozbargain.com.au to OFFER FOR SALE in Australia.

Cyanide: Dangerous. Possibly, but no more than any generic deadly poison.

WRONG. The fact that they haven't been tested or certified is in EVERY RESPECT a failure to comply the applicable Australian Standards.

They must be TESTED. It's not good enough to just "build to meet" the standards. The physical testing forms the core part of the standards compliance. It's actually the most difficult aspect of the standards to comply to.

The tests are primarily to determine what happens in the event of a internal fault or abnormal operation. In other words, not how safe it is when it's working, but what happens when things go wrong. There are also tests to ensure it won't expose live parts after being dropped, etc… it's not a trivial process. Product tested and approved for use in Europe will be close to passing the tests for AU, and to add the AU deviations is a very small cost.

However you can be assured that these cheap chines chargers haven't been tested to EU standards either. Or USA, or Korea or any country… they haven't been checked by ANYONE. Of course, people on a web forum in Australia can simply view a photo of the product on a Chinese online store and instantly confirm the product safety and assure all buyers that it'll be perfectly fine and safe to use.

But watch out if any company offers a frigging water bottle who cannot prove it's not BPA-free. People might be KILLED by toxic chinese plastic! ROFL, this place is incredible.
