These shoes look the business, but they've fallen apart with a couple of trail runs across the front, that "rugged" looking rubber near the toe cracked apart quickly. But I find them comfortable. They've been demoted to bush walking shoes where they're not stressed so much.

I find Salomon shoes generally very slippery on wet rocky surfaces, but great for gravel and mud which most running shoes are fine for anyway. Not sure I'd recommend buying them.

  • No Gortex. not deal for me GTX version for me!

    • See, I thought Gortex would be a good thing on trail runners. I bought some Northface shoes a few years ago and opted for the waterproof version and regretted it due to how hot your feet get after a couple of hours. They also take longer to dry and once water gets into them, it is harder to get it out. YMMV though.

PSA: Wiggle was added to Price Hipster this morning, for those who wish to check prices (this price actually dropped 3 days ago).

  • I used to have a pair of these shoes. They were very very comfortable and I wore them almost daily for several years before the soles gave out. Well suited for any walking or hiking except perhaps very hardcore stuff.

    • you wore the green shoes daily? no matter where you go?

      • Thankfully my pair was black but it's true they weren't appropriate for every occasion.

  • I think cheaper to buy in GBP with 28 degrees? OR doesn't that work with cashback?

  • Have had Salmons for years. Literally would not buy anything else. Unbelievable support, never die, waterproof, light, breaths, generally amazing. Would suggest the ultra pro 2s, as they are very cool and great colors!

  • My concern with Salomon is that they have a very wide range of shoes and I can't for the life of me see that much differnce (eg XA vs S-LAB etc). I mean, help me out with that one has carbon fibre or that one has titanium. Or goretex. Or an inbuilt foot massager.

  • I've had several pairs of Salomon X Ultra 2 Mid GTX boots, the ones with Goretex, and can say that I have been impressed with their comfort and endurance. As a nice lightweight hiking boot they fit the bill nicely. I would hope these shoes would be of similar pedigree.

I do have one pair of Salomon Kalalau shoes, much cheaper in price point, and they have still been a great buy, very light, comfy and so far so good in terms of toughness.

I would definitely recommend Salomon shoes based on personal experience
