  • After checking and actually finding availability at these mega cheap prices I rate this a + bargain.

  • i've flown Tiger before from Melb -> Canberra + Melb -> Gold Coast

service was good .. seats are comfy .. staff were nice and friendly

the only prob i had was Canberra -> Melb was delayed due to other pre-flights from Perth delayed .. so yeah… had to sit around CBR airport for couple of hours. luckily i was with a friend so time wise it didnt matter . but hey it was CBR so its not like its one of their higher priority locations :P

  • they are getting leather seats soon.

  • Payment must be made by Australian-issued Mastercard Debit card only* is a big fail. Not a deal imo.

    • That's to get it fee free u can pay with visa but u get a credit card fee added like with the other airlines

  • I believe "Mastercard Debit card only" is there as there is an additional charge of $6 per segment for using Mastercard (credit) or Visa (credit/debit).

  • This time last year their sale had flights to perth for $128 return, this time is $128 one way. Not really any different to their usual price.

    • Indeed it seems like these are their base prices everyday. I suppose the only thing they could be doing is making some more seats available at the cheaper prices.

  • My dad went with tiger on a flight home from Hobart about a month ago. When he went to catch it (7am flight I think) they said they 'overbooked' the flight and he had to wait until the next flight which was that night i.e. he had to wait like 11 hours at the airport :/. Though I think the ticket cost like $2 + $26 in taxes…I don't really understand why they couldn't have contacted him prior to the flight…

    • all airlines overbook …
they do this because they know that some people will cancel or others wont rock up to the airport
unfortunately your dad was unlucky and more people rocked up than was expected
sometimes thats why online check in is good .. you do it when you can straight away .. and then that way you are guaranteed a seat .. and the above scenario will simple happen to someone else .. :P

      • Tiger Airways doesn't have online check in. I wish they did. It would make catching 6am flights a whole lot easier…

        • tiger do have online checkin. the link is around the net somewhere.

          • @[Deactivated]: I just had another look at the Tiger Airways web site and couldn't find it. Can you post a link? Either it doesn't exist or Tiger have done their best to hide it.

@Cluster: I think they just open it, i got the email for online check in 48 hours before the flight.

From the email, the link is

              http://syd.openskies.navitaireinside.com/checkin/tiger_en.js…

not sure if you can just access it without the email.

Also, i did not use it the other day, and not sure of how will it work with the limit of cabin baggage, as they are pretty strict with that sort of stuff.

@antzz: I flew with Tiger in late March on a ticket purchased in December. Web check in was not available back then, but it's pleasing to see it's now available.

Web check in is particularly valuable when catching a 6am flight. Turning up at the airport before 5am to meet the 45 minute check in cut off isn't fun :-P

              • @antzz: Thanks for posting the link, couldn't find it anywhere and had to sleep at the airport carpark last time to make sure I didn't miss a 6am flight.

Tigger's great if you're bouncing on a budget; not so great if you're on a schedule!

I'm pretty demanding. I've got this unrealistic expectation that if I turn up on time at the airport ready to fly, that the ticket I've bought and paid for will allow me to do so with minimal fuss. Unavoidable delays & technical problems I can support, overselling as a business practice I cannot! ;)

Yes, other airlines do overbook; but the alarming regularity with which Tiger does this as SOP is disturbing IMHO! Let me preface this by saying we may have been unlucky, but the number of times I've been called back to, diverted from, or asked to delay/reschedule pickups (usually for more expensive replacement flights with other airlines) or dropoffs at airports for my family & friends using them as opposed to other carriers is easily 10:1 in "favour" of Tiger! :(

I value my time a bit too much perhaps, sitting around the airport or manufacturing things to do for 10-12hrs would bring out the "Rain Man" in me, not to mention potentially costing me business; whereas more laid back folks may be quite happy to give up half a day or more playing airline musical chairs at short notice, just not me!

I wouldn't use them personally, whereas others proffer glowing reports, it's entirely subjective; but they have set some precedents, nobody can deny that! Caveat emptor! :p

That said, a bargain is just that…+ve! ;)

    • Yes, I've heard it said that Tiger's good if you like being in the news. :)

But no vote from me either way, since I don't have personal experience with them. But I would be wary and leave lots of slack in the schedule.

    • I am flying regularly (once a week or so) with various airlines. IMHO, tiger is not doing that badly. Statistically, i have been luckier with tiger than jetstar. However, please note, if your flight cancelled with virgin/jetstar in your destination city, they do provide hotel for you, dont expect the same thing with tiger. Also note, this is also happening similarly with Qantas / Virgin.

Well, last of all, i always fly with the least expectation possible ready for shock (i hate it if they give Public Announcement). Guess if Govn create a high speed train from Melb - Syd, i would not even thinking to fly.

cheapest Tiger I found was Brisbane-Melbourne 49 one way,
BTW, did anyone every ask Jet-Star to price match Tiger (or beat by 10%), it seems to me the 1300 number never get through….

    • yeh. price match works ok. also no $6/flight CC fees.
It's reallly hard to get through to Jetstar 1300 no. No matter what time of the day 1am/4am/4pm/7pm always the same story - 25 min wait.

  • my mate almost missed my bucks due to a 4 hour delay! GRRR tiger!

  • just booked the flights from melbourne to hobart … only 'cause its cheap :) planning to chuck a sickie.
any cool places to see around hobart? im open to suggestions.. :)

    • Hi bargainhuntaa. Not sure how long you are going for and the things you like to do, but here are some ideas. Salamanca Market (sat only) Salamanca is a great place to grab a bite to eat or have a beer. Take a day trip down to Port Arthur Historical site. Take a boat tour around the Derwent River. Mount Wellington Bike Ride Tour (down-hill)

      Here are some more ideas.

    stupid tiger

ill be using jetstars price match next time

they cancelled my flight without any notifications and at the airport they had taken it off the board and no one knew what the hell was going on…

ended up missing work and getting home 10 hours later than we were supposed to

suppose thats what you get for 28.50 flights

    • Nothing new @ Tiger. This is what I'd been telling all along but no one believe me :)

  • I have a Tiger flight this Sat morning. I got an email an hour ago stating 'web check in is open' (I have carry on baggage)
I clicked a few things and next thing I know I have printed out my boarding pass and I'm in seat 2A :-)
It states to be at the departure gate 45 minutes before your flight, but then states gates close 10 minutes before flight. So I'm going to get there 30 mins before the flight. Yes! I love you Tiger.

  • So I’m going to get there 30 mins before the flight.

    You're dreaming….

    Yes! I love you Tiger.

Do you really want to take it back? Can't wait to hear your response after the trip at airport :)
