Received this time-limited offer from Lenovo yesterday. Online price is $1,499 and after the discount coupon BARGAIN460 the price is reduced to $998 delivered. Here is the specification:

ThinkPad E460 - i7 with 2GB graphics

  • Intel Core i7-6500U (up to 3.1GHz)
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 14" Full HD (1920x1080)
  • 16GB PC3-12800 RAM
  • AME Radeon R7 M360 2GB
  • 1TB 5400RPM HDD
  • 1.9kg

It's a capable entry level ThinkPad. However,

  • These day and age you just don't buy a $1000 laptop with spinning rust. However it costs $150 to upgrade to 256GB SSD so it's cheaper buying it elsewhere. You also get a chance to re-install Windows 10 without all the Lenovo add-ons.
  • Only one single HDMI out so likely no 4K video out nor dual external monitor. Lucky if you have already acquired a OneLink dock from this deal Update: E460 supports only OneLink or OneLink Pro dock, so at most with extra HDMI + DVI out (OneLink Pro).

its a steal at that price!

consider it might come with a free tracking software.

  • Buy a Dell Latitude 14 7000 at this pricepoint from the Dell Outlet or fork out another $500 and buy a Dell Thinkpad T series (worth every cent).
HP have dropped the ball this year, so don't even consider them if you care about battery life and good screens.

    • What is a 'Dell Thinkpad'?

      • Lenovo thinkpad.

        I couldn't edit the comment

The Dell Outlet has been completely void of laptops for the past week.

Shame about HP, they started improving after a few years of utter garbage, looks like they're going back to the old days.

On the T vs E, $500 gets you halfway to another laptop. The display and hardware is the same, what you're losing out on is the admittedly awesome build quality of the T and the backlit keyboard when you go with the E. Personally I'm looking for a laptop for home, so carbon fibre, roll cages, all the jazz in their high end models aren't really that useful as I don't intend to drop the thing. While plastic the E models are still very solid and have great keyboards/trackpads, so it's a big stretch to justify the extra $500

  • E460 is not compatible with OneLink dock.

    • +2

Do you have a source for this? I'm sitting next to one which is plugged in to a One Link dock.

    • I think you might be partially right. E460 supports OneLink & OneLink Pro, but might not support OneLink+. I thought it's supposed to be that One Link to rule 'em all but Lenovo somehow likes to change the specification every other year :(

      • Interesting, I wonder if it would actually work though?

        • Different pin layout. 54 pin for OneLink & 24 pin for OneLink+

  • Not sure you can get cashrewards with this deal? This same laptio is only $1049 on the website with the code Deals 20 - which entitles you to 8% cashback from cashrewards coming in at $965…..

      Yes you can. (Source: TA)

    This was a better deal:

    15" screen
    DVD writer
    Better graphics card
    $130 cheaper

So roughly 25% better value than this

This pisses me off so much about OZ Bargain. People like you who post : "This was a better deal"… - KEYWORD BEING "WAS"… That deal doesn't exist now. What's the point in bringing it up.

These sort of comments(with slight negative connotations) make people hesitant to post deals.

      • You would rather people remain less informed, considering that deals from Lenovo are monthly now, on average.
So you would rather people are less than more aware.

You wouldn't happen to be a right winger voter, would you? Ignorance & denial of science is the domain of the right wing

        • I think you need to give more context before you say "this was a better deal".

I wasn't aware that Lenovo deals are monthly now. Also, can you guarantee that next month there will be a better deal?

It's like saying in 1990 gold prices were $380.00 an ounce… today gold price is ~$1200 an ounce. Let's say tomorrow there is a sale for $1100 USD an ounce… You're saying: Don't buy this deal, because it was $380.00 before. For a lot of people, they would love to know about the $1100 USD an ounce deal.

I'm all for comments that say : "this is a better deal, because of ______". If it is being compared to a current deal, awesome. If you're comparing to expired deals - piss off.

          @yoyomablue:

I see your side of the argument - but I think in general this is my thoughts:

          • If it is not being compared to a current deal, don't post it.
          • If it is being compared to a previous deal, provide context.

Anyway, overall - it was good arguing with you. Thanks for your contribution to the community in general. I still like you more than people who don't have an account and who do not contribute at all (some of those non-contributors who cause deals to be "oz-bargained" very quickly)

Thank you for being civil and I hope you have a great weekend.

@yoyomablue: still, it doesn't say anything about the future, for this moment the OP has the best deal

@khonfahm: Sarcasm noted. "People like you" probably voted for One Nation or Rise Up Australia

        • @yoyomablue:

          I honestly wasn't being sarcastic…

        • @khonfahm: it only took 8 days for a way better deal….LOL

With E560 you also get 21% more weight. Seriously these are two different laptops, but for someone looking for mostly desk-bound notebook, E560 was a better deal.

  • +1

Does it have a backlit keyboard?

    • Nope :-(

    thanx OP.

  • Would have bought this but I just bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 recently, damn!!

Bought this last time to use as a dev machine at home and it's a great little computer. I got the better Wifi, Windows 10 Pro, and the upgrade to 192GB SSD. Came out to like $1050 or so, then got $100 cashrewards back. Would highly recommend this laptop to anyone.

  • Another noob question, is this Lenovo better than this one http://www.msy.com.au/notebooks/16493-acer-v3-372-587tnxg7as… ?

    • Yes.

This does not have SSD but can be upgraded.

You can probably bet this one is better built as well (in terms of durability).

  • I bought the E450 from similar deal on OZB last year, had my FAN replaced due to abnormal noise, and I also don't like the quality of the lcd cover bezel (front) and back cover as well, it's very fragile and can easily show your fingers affect the display when you hold the screen from behind. The speed to be honest is very good, as mine had an SSD. The edge where you lay your hands is so sharp that I have my palms in pain, honestly I would never buy a lenovo again

  • How does this compare to the Thinkpad 13 with Core i5, FHD and 256gb SSD?

    • Processor is very similar. The big difference is that the 256gb SSD is (probably) a big improvement over a 1TB HDD, unless you really need that extra disk space. The E460 comes with a bit more RAM, and a discrete GPU (good for light gaming). The screen size is also something to consider, and the E460 ends up significantly heavier.

At the same price, go with the Thinkpad 13 if you're looking for portability. If that's not important to you, then the E460 becomes a strong choice.

  • Thank you, ordered one.
Now waiting for another SSD deal to come along while I wait for delivery…..

  • BE WARNED about upgrading to a 'Next Business Day Warranty' with any Lenovo laptop.
I purchased one of the recent Yoga 460 deals and spent extra on upgrading to a Next Business Day Onsite warranty.
It unfortunately arrived with a faulty main system board. So I logged it for warranty and made extra sure they were aware I had a NBD Onsite warranty.
3 Days later I check the status and it said "A technician will be in contact in 16 to 18 days". I misread this at first as hours, but then blinked a few times and read it correctly as days.
I called them and asked them what their understanding of "Next Business Day" was!? When they agreed it was generally the next working day I asked them why it would then take close to 3 weeks! To which they said "The parts are not available". Which is pretty poor form on a current model laptop. They didn't give me any other options. I calmly explained that it's pretty ordinary service to sell Next Business Day warranty service and then immediately not be able to provide that service.
They said sorry at least. I'm not very happy.

  • O.K… I bit the bullet and bought one. I conveniently saw this model at Centrecom. Its an excellent size - not too big - not too small. Screen is excellent. Nice and light too. I would say its a bit like an ultrabook but with a modicum of upgradeability. Disappointed I cant add a second HDD but Ill just replace it with the 480gb sandisk and use the 1tb elsewhere.

  • Also just pulled the trigger on this, hoping not to regret it- $1K is not exactly chump change for me. Cheers OP for sharing!
