UNSW Library: Free eJournal Access for UNSW Alumni

730

NOTE: Requires a UNSW alumni account
Not really sure if this is a bargain…

For those who spent years at UNSW to get an oversized novelty paper and a massive debt.
You now have free access to ejournals!

Edit: Hopefully if we use this "trial" a lot, they make it permanent :P

Nice to see the debt I accumulated actually have extra perks down the tract.

6 years spent at that institution finally paid off

please tell me you're trolling with the spelling of the last word

Don't you already get students calling you at home asking you to contribute to Scholarship Funds? As if UNSW didn't get enough out of me as an undergrad.

Not all deals need referall links…

        Savage.

        • Didn't mean to be. Just pointing out it's possible to post a deal for others to benefit from without it being self serving

          @Tafe: Who?

        • -1

@Tafe: I was agreeing with you.

    • Yeah nah, I wasn't smart enough to be a doctor :(

      • Don't worry… that fads passed now.
The real cool guys now have unlimited cash and a YouTube subscribe channel ; )

  • Access to some databases for alumni is pretty common. You don't get access to all the subscribed databases, only those the library can negotiate alumni access. Here is a similar list for UTS alumni: http://www.lib.uts.edu.au/borrow/membership/alumni-databases
[disclosure: I am an alumnus of UNSW and UTS and currently work at UTS]

    • Cool thanks for that. Between UNSW and UTS alumni looks like I can access most things I'd be interested in. Shame there's no Factiva access.

      • Looks like you need to pay $75pa for UTS alumni library membership with off campus access to the databases. Nope.

Sweet. There were a few articles I would've liked to access outside of graduation.

If you're desperately looking for science papers and think this is great, wait until you check out http://sci-hub.bz/ (and its mirrors, including on tor).

Yes it's illegal. And yes, Elsevier is doing everything it can to shut it down (http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/sci-hub-offline-elsevier-gets-yet-a…). But since the brainchild is Russian she's playing hardball.

Simply go to pubmed to get the PMID to your article and paste it in the sci-hub search engine. Wait a while and you'll often get the same pubmed page but with links to the full article (thanks to keys shared by other academics).

It really took sometime to update my unipass, zpass, unsw alumni account and lifetime alumni mail account. But it is worth it. I feel younger again somehow. LOL
    Thanks Op.

    • How do you obtain the Alumni A/C?

      • You need to have your old student login id starting with z22xxxx.

        • You are old, they are up to z3xx now

As with other things with UNSW, this should be considered a bait.

    • Can you be more specific about this? What do you mean by a bait?

  • When was in UNSW uni six years ago, I was paying 35 grand a year to read these eJournals, I felt like "WTF I am reading.."
Six years later, when I am earning 150 grand a year and paying $0 for these eJournals, I read these journals again I feel like "WTF m reading…"

Seems nothing changed over the years, that's why we never stand still..

    • Nice what did you study and what are you doing now?

  • Got my account set up and have been tripping back down memory lane reading articles in JSTOR. Thanks again marty64.

  • Ah UNSW. I wonder if I should go back and finish my course. Have about 3 and a half full time semesters left. Hmm. Nearly 7 years now.
