        Why was he Banned?

        Someone said he was trolling

        • +1

One could say the coupon code is a version of trolling.

        • OzBargain is a happier place without JV

JV's waiting for the vote to be finalised and will come back as Senator_JV.

      him

      You sure…?

And yeah, was quite surprised at that! So much activity, then 24hr ban, then wham, no more jv!

      • -1

        Woops I forgot. Her*

        • JClear, where does this attach in the car?

Is it on the top edge of the windshield, behind the rear-view mirror?
Or is it on the bottom edge of the windshield, resting on top of the centre dash-board?

        • @Kangal: Uses a 3M adhesive to connect to the windshield. Up the top near the rear view mirror is probably best. This video shows you how to install.

        • @Clear: Cheers mate!
By the way it shows the comment as collapsed reason: Offtopic. Just fyi.

      • Lol why banned?

    • +1

      Jv is a he??

      • No jv is a she.
        I doubt she got banned.

hello jv, wait…………. your something's wrong…………… there's no annoying comments!

      • +4

Sometime his annoying comments are quite hilarious.

        • -1

Yes, some were quite witty. Can't believe he got banned though.

        • +6

His/hers attitude deters from posting deals. That's just my opinion

        • +13

@bbyboy: Deters people from posting crap deals. Which i think is a good thing.

        • @bbyboy: agreed…

        • +3

          @Martijn:

Even some good deals, the technicality crap that jv would call out was annoying.

"As New" vs New in one of my deals was pretty stupid..

        • @bbyboy:

My thoughts exactly - certainly deters me from posting deals. All the good work done by being the self-appointed police officer of Ozbargain to monitor deals and their adherence to posting guidelines is undone by the level of annoyance created by posting loaded, trolling or off-topic comments.

Amazing how there has barely been any fights in the last couple of weeks…

        • @XeKToReX: Without a link i cannot judge what was said.
If jv was pointing out that as new is not new, i agree. I don't want an as new tooth brush, tbh.

        • @Martijn:

In this case, As new did mean New, not refurbished, not repaired, just cancelled order.

Anyway, you gonna step up and take her place/downvotes? :P

        • @XeKToReX: No, i went through your posts, couldn't see where it was mentioned… hence my question.

    • Maybe he's using another nickname to login.

      • +4

        And start my post count from 0 again… I don't think so…

        • Welcome back! :)

  • Random question, but is the model in this deal the same thing as this 'Street Guardian' model???

    That's a massive price difference if so…

    • +2

      Same case, different (cheaper/inferior) insides.

      • The Strathfield one comes with GPS antenna and 32GD card where this one does not ?

    • +1

Not the same, same body and fuctions but has Sony camera and better processor. Night vision is superior. But thos cheap one is also fine.

  • pay with paypal to avoid any frustration with returning item in case of problems.

Apparently seen quite a few complaints about some people having problems with this particular problem.

I myself have this dashcam updated firmware, runs great, hasn't skipped a beat in the 8 months i've owned it.

    • +2

people having problems with this particular problem.

      Only 97 problems to go

      • +1

        But a camera ain't one.

      • My bad, meant to write camera

  • This is good, have one in my car…looks good on the windscreen…forget its there.

  • Can you do a package deal for the camera, hard wire, and gps module?

Can someone also confirm if the Gps module gives you the ability to enable a speed text on the video to show how fast the car is going?

    • The gps speed always shows on the cameras screen, it's just when you play on the computer that you need a certain media player

  • +3

Does anyone know if the capacitor includes flux? Or is that an optional add-on?

    • +5

As far as I can tell, the last time the 'flux' option was offered was on 21st October 2015.

  • I want to buy 2 but the price keeps changing from 50usd to 55.70usd. It also screws up the discount when I try to buy 2. On top of that, how do I use my eb points?

    • I've not tried with this deal, but you'll probably need to buy one and get a 'friend' with a different email address to buy the other so that you can get two lots of the new sign up points.

  • Is this the one that's "hidden" and unrecognizable from the outside?

    • +1

Hardly, but much more discrete than the other suction cap type cams.

  • I would like to order one but very put off from everbuying after never getting the last camera I ordered back in March :/ I don't want to piss more money into the wind for nothing.

    • Hello AMLagonda,

Could you pls PM me your order number? Once confirmed, we can arrange refund and reshipment ASAP.

      Thanks

      Becky

  • +1

What's the main difference between this one?

    http://m.everbuying.net/product784349.html

Your description says left and right swing on camera.???

The GPS sensor is here also ($11.77)

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/400958421213?_trksid=p2057872.m27…

  • Can anyone confirm that the safe capacitor actually works on this model? I've tried one previously and when testing the power disconnection/ignition off, the recording file never got a chance to complete writing correction and so was corrupted. Not something I'd want to trust on the chance it could fail to capture a key moment when I needed it.

    • Been using it for months with no issues, I do recommend however to use a quality SD card. This works well - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331259670046?_trksid=p2057872.m27…

      • Have you tested it by having it start recording, waiting for 20 seconds or so and disconnecting the power… then checking to see if you can view/play the video file? Mine worked fine too… as it wrote files fine until it lost power and it was the last file that got clobbered.

  • everyone talks about mounting this to the windshield.
Does it work as well just sitting on the dash?
I think it would be easy to install and wire rather than having to go around the entire windshield pane.

    • +3

Not really, you need the high perspective to get a better view of the road. If it's on the dash then you'll mainly just be recording sky.

      • Just thought about it. Make sense.

  • I've had two of these. The first one crapped out and got stuck in an endless boot loop. Couldn't fix it, was eventually replaced (at some expense to me) by the vendor (not Everbuying, one other). But otherwise it was great.

And the second has performed faultlessly. Would recommend.

    • at some expense to me

Use paypal next time and claim back the shipping

  • This one is pretty much the knockoff A118C not from the original supplier so be aware.

  • How well do these things survive summer? When the temperature gets above 40C here the car is roasting hot and the device is in full sunlight behind glass. I had a GPS unit that actually warped due to heat.

  • Just want to say I got a VIOFO A118C from EverBuying from the last Oz-bargain offer and arrive this week. The dash cam took 2 weeks to be delivered to Perth and I was expecting much longer coming from China.

The camera has exceeded my expectations, great quality video for the price and the best part is it is very discrete as it looks more an integrated part of the car so you can set and forget. So impressed I am going to buy another one either for the rear or the other car.

    • What's the night vision/recording like on this model? Is it likely to clearly record a cars registration plate on a street with minimal lighting?

      • Night vision is good but not excellent. Can read license plate of car in front but only when within 5 meters. If you want good night vision, $350 best blackvue is what you want.

        • Thanks much appreciated!

  • +1

You know how it says :Loop-cycle Recording Time 1min,3min,5min
Does that mean that after 5min of recording it will start to record over itself meaning all you will ever have is 5min of video?

    • -4

Yes - that is correct. This is just how large the video files are it creates, I set 3 minutes that creates 350MB files on the SD card. There is no lost of video between files as when one finishes, the other one starts from that exact position.

    • +1

Not sure if you got your full answer from the comment above but i'll give it a shot.

It will keep recording 1,3,5,10 minute videos onto your SD card until it's full (all 16GB, 32GB however big your sd card is), then it will overwrite the earliest video taken (oldest video) and continue recording. You will still have all of your previous 1,3,5,10 minute videos until they are overwritten.

      • ahh yeah makes sense, thanks

    • razzor wrote "Loop-cycle Recording Time 1min,3min,5min - Does that mean that after 5min of recording it will start to record over itself"

No it just records in the time segment you select until the card is full THEN it overwrites them starting from the oldest recording
the time segments are for viewing or copying the files some dash cams can use WiFi to transfer to PC short times are best for them

  • I bought the VIOFO A118C from Gearbest - been running for over 6 months now, so far no issues good product.

  • just wondering, which one is better in terms of day and night video quality between this one and Xiaomi Yi Dashcam?

  • Has anyone conducted a power off test with this unit to confirm that it would still save the last video file being recorded, in the case of power loss to the unit, in the even of an accident? There's not much point relying on a crash cam if the most important file gets corrupted in this situation. How do you know it's going to work for you when you need it the most… without first testing it… ? I only ask, because the version I had didn't work under these conditions… but worked fine otherwise. But I can't rely on it for that reason and want to find one I can rely on. Thanks

    • +1

If it doesn't work in this manner, then it is faulty.

These models have a capacitor that stores enough power to gracefully end recording and shutdown the camera once power has been turned off.

      • Exactly. But how many who get it are actually testing it to confirm it works as expected?

        • Not quite sure what you are asking…
It would and should still save the last video file. That's what the capacitor ones do, It saves enough power for it to save the last video file before powering off.
Are you just worried that these features do not work? If so buy a well known non China $400 dash cam?

        • @bogak: Yeah, the ones I have tested don't work. Perhaps the answer is what you are offering… pay for a more expensive, well known brand. I've tried 2 of them and they both don't work as claimed. I just wonder how many others there are out there that don't work when people think that they are. Unless you test it… how are you going to know… unless you have an accident and then go looking for the file and hey presto! It's not there… bit late to find out then. I was looking at buying this one… but wanted to know if anyone has tested it with power loss… not just relied on the advertising/marketing say-so that it does… but actually tested it. Because if they have and it works… then I might buy it. If they have tested it and it doesn't work, then I wouldn't. If you have one… what if it doesn't work and you don't find out until its too late?

        • @gwoodford:
You're better off buying proper one with 3mp camera. I don't have this one but all dash cams will save the last file. It might just be your SD card if it doesn't. Then try firmware updates or ask the forums at dashcamtalk

        • @bogak: Thanks for the response. I tried it with 3 different SD cards, 2 of which were class 10. I also followed the vendors advice and updated the firmware. My suspicion is that some of these cheaper cams on the market don't actually work properly. But most people would never know. Either way, I am now taking that approach of faulty until proven it works with any other cams.

        • @gwoodford:
Which one did you get that's not saving the last file? I did have one that actually had your problem, it was a SJ1000 and it just didn't like anything bigger than 16gb.
I now have Mobius and they're great.

        • @bogak: The last one I tried was an A118C from FoxOffer. It was a replacement for another one that wouldn't hold the date or charge as well.

  • Deal still going. Just ordered one.
