Lycra cycling shorts that are actually for cycling (i.e. have padding inside).
Normally refers to Bib Knicks. Padded cycling shorts with shoulder straps. They can be very expensive with some costing over $200. Global interest in cycling is about to peak with the Tour De France kicking off on the weekend so expect some sales on bike stuff!
I wanted to buy one of their bikes once and they wouldn't discount it one cent, wanted RRP, so I bought it elsewhere for about 9% cheaper. So to get a minimum 15% off their bikes is a good deal.
Agreed. If you turn up when there isn't a sale, expect to pay RRP here.
FWIW I bought my 1st 'proper' road bike from these guys. Went back to upgrade (and spend about $5K on a bike) but needless to say I wasn't impressed by their lack of customer service (i.e. ignored me for about 15 minutes before I went up to one of the guys and asked for some help … after about 2 minutes he showed no interest in really spending time with me as it was about 20 minutes from closing time). Anyway, took my money and spent it elsewhere …
They're typically overpriced versus some other LBS (local bike shops), and aren't as flexible to move on pricing, so this offer perhaps brings them equal to a heap of other shops around Sydney (like Bates Bikes, Fraser cycles, Park Life, Northside Cyclery, Velofix in Rozelle, Sydney City Cyles in Campbelltown to name a few)
Where else would you recommend to buy a bike?
Panther Cycles in Penrith has always been my number one choice for bikes. Bought road, mountain and triathlon bikes through them and the guys' service and knowledge is first class. Worth travelling for in my opinion.
I live in Melbourne but my recommendation would be your 'Local Bike Shop' (LBS). I shopped around for my 1st serious carbon fibre steed and ended up buying it from a big inner city shop miles from where I live because they were a bit cheaper than the local guy. In the 1st 3 years I owned it I never took it back to the place I bought it as it was too much of a hassle to cart it half way across town. I did however become good mates with the guy that owns the LBS closest to my house and in those 3 years rode many thousands of Kms with him and the local bunch of stalwarts that frequent his shop rides.
I am about to go to bed and I will be up and out front of Dave's shop in about 9 hours time to haul my backside up some hills then sit around a coffee shop somewhere having a laugh with all of my cycling mates. I felt guilty for most of these years for not buying my bike from dave for the sake of a couple of hundred dollars since I have been on everything from epic distance rides to beers in the workshop lockins at his LBS. If there is ever any advice/guidance or help I need for bike stuff Dave will always help, I wouldn't go anywhere else. He setup my wheels for tubeless tyres, he trued my wheels and he wrote the insurance assessment for free when I wrote off my original bike in a crash (buy some bike insurance, highly recommended, I had Velosure).
I am well and truly addicted to cycling now and just spent an obscene amount of $$ on a bike (could have bought a decent used car for less, lookup TREK Madone 9!!). I didnt even shop around, I bought this one from Dave. He gives all of his regulars a discount but I am sure I could have found it cheaper elsewhere. I didn't even look. I bought from Dave and it will be getting looked after by Dave. I will buy clothes and shoes and lights elsewhere when I find bargains but I am sure that I am well ahead on the ledger from the companionship, friendship and camaraderie I have had through becoming part of the 'Bunch' at Dave's LBS. If i paid an extra $150 rather than screwing a bikeshop on the other side of town that I will never go to again, so be it I am still well in front.
I feel stupid for not knowing what a "knicks" is.
