I've been able to get a coupon for the popular 2GB R-Box Android TV box powered by the Rockchip RK3229 for US$34.59 - making it the cheapest it has been to date. Coupon is good for 50 units.

Usual drill regarding new Everybuying accounts:

  • Make new Account (Which Gives you 100 EB Points Thats Equal to $2)
  • Replace www with m to login to Mobile Site (Which Gives you 2% Off)

The RK3229 is a respectable SOC that is capable of 4K video including 10-bit H.265 @ 60fps and 10-bit H.264 @ 30fps. The R-Box is interesting as it has 2GB of RAM and runs Android 5.1 as most RK3229 boxes only have 1GB of RAM and run Android 4.4.

It also has a display on the front that show the time.

I haven't tested this specific box but I reviewed the Zidoo X1 II RK3229 Android box which showed decent media playback abilities, though 10-bit H.264 playback was mixed. Hopefully, this gives you some insight into how the RK3229 performs.

  • Has anyone got one of these and been able to use their Logitech universal remotes with them? I ordered one not long ago (It hasn't been delivered as yet), but would be keen to integrate it into my single remote household if possible.

    • Ordered one of these last time they were on offer on OzB. To answer your first question I couldn't get mine to works with Logitech Harmony, the box is not on the standard device list or I couldn't manually input the commands, must be a different frequency or something I was missing.

Also, the box is pretty poor running Kodi, it is very laggy and slow. I have already disconnected mine and when back to Raspberry Pi 1 running Kodi, it is fasted than this box.

damn and tarnation. I was getting it to replace my WDTV Live as a DLNA streamer and for Kodi.

      • I heard disabling the Media Scanner fixed speed issues on some devices (not that it should be required).

  • Tempted to get one. Anyone know if there are compatible remotes with built in mic so you can give voice commands (play, pause, skip, rewind, search google / play store) like you can with the 4th gen Apple TV?

  • How does it compare to US $43.99: Beelink MiniMXIII Amlogic S905 Quad-Core? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121971026711?_trksid=p2055119.m14…

I personally prefer the S905 as its a little more powerful i.e. I found gaming a bit better on it. That said, there's likely some codec support differences.

      • +1

s905 has a mali 450, which is A LOT (about 3X) more powerful than the mali 400 in this box - source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mali_(GPU)

    • yes, the S905 is cool. I bought one of K1 PLUS S2 T2 Amlogic S905 Quad Core 64Bit TV Box Android 5.1.1 1G 8G 2.4G WiFi LAN.

it comes with 4k support, 1x S2 TV tuner and 1x T2 tuner. All apps works beautifully.

      • Price?

  • I have one of them, it finally arrived last week, it is great for under $50. I mainly wanted to use it to play videos off a USB. The Kodi that comes with it had heaps of crap installed and everything I tried never worked and I wouldn't want to work either because they download links from pirate sites without any anonymity to you. I bought it for my father so he can watch Iview on it and some USB movies I have, havn't tried to install Iview on yet hope it works.

Wished they just had a plain install of Kodi on it.
