Russell Hobbs RHK72 Vintage Kettle $49 (Was $99) @ BIG W (in Store Only)

430

I just picked up a RUSSELL HOBBS - Vintage Kettle (RHK72COP) at Big W this afternoon for only $49 (RRP $99) Even at the Target $79 but out of stock and $78 at Billy Guyats. I am not sure how good it is but it seems a good price for this kettle. There were 5 left at Big W Keysborough when I bought it.
Available colour: Charcoal or Copper.

I have this kettle, it's really good so far. I brought it for $40 from target when they had the 50% off home sale on reduced items 2 mths ago.

    • Me too got it for 39.95 minus 4000 flybuy points ;-)

      • +2

Some were jealous of how you choose to use your points it seems..

  • i looked at it a while ago, the design won't please everyone. on a more practical side the water gauge is one of those annoying hard to read ones.
I wouldnt have known what to do with "old" one

This kettle boils water at a lower temperature than most other kettles. /s

    • +8

      Water boils at 100 degree

      • +9

Depends on your altitude. At the top of Mt Everest water boils at 72 degrees C.

        • +17

Yeah but finding somewhere to plug it in is a nightmare.

        • @dd22qq: Solar power.

@EightImmortals: Yes they sit there turning those crank dynamos so you can have a cup of hot tea at the top of Mt Everest. Thats what I call extravagance. Of course it is so cold up there that you can't actually drink the tea due to exposure on your face (unless you use a straw) and also the air is so thin you ned oxygen to breath but it is still a nice idea. I suppose you can always come back to the base camp and drink it inside one of the tents.

        • @benbegg: I don't trek with pussies (in fact I don't trek at all). :) Wim Hof almost made it to the summit in nothing but shorts, I'm sure he could handle a nice cuppa tea no problems.

Ridiculous design. So hard to fill with water given the positioning of the handle.

    • +4

Just fill the water by the spout that's what I do

      • If I has a scale filter you might be reverse flushing it. Technically it should filter it out again but who knows how fine

  • Is the finish copper or copper coloured?

    • +8

unfortunately, the copper is just a cheap painted surface that will chip, scuff and discolour with heat pretty quickly.

however, the charcoal model is made of real charcoal and the ruby red model is made from real rubies, so they might be better choices.

My parents had a similar design kettle (also russell hobbs) and I found that if you pour it too soon after boiling, the steam ends up on your hand as you tilt it due to the handle position.

    • Yes handle is in a bad position!!!

when I need 2 lots of boiling water, I get scolded trying to refill to soon after the kettle finished boiling the first round.
I try filling through the spout but the filter and angle of the spout slows the flow too much.

    • Agreed, had the same issue.

  • I've had this kettle for about 2 years. No idea what I am doing different to others here but I have had zero problems with it. Used multiple times every day, I'd buy this one if I had use for 2 kettles haha.

  • I have recently replaced one of these that died after a couple of years regular use.

They look quite nice but the paint colour on the kettle scratches off far too easily and in our case it didn't really last that long.

They don't make kettles like they use to!

  • This isn't on sale everywhere - I just tried at Big W Forest Hill (Vic), and still $99.

    • I am not sure but it looks like clearance stock at Big W Keysborough (Parkmore Shopping Center).I just bought it yesterday!

Bought a Russell Hobbs blender the other day. It looks and feels plasticky and cheap and it actually doesn't blend because they made a retarded blade for it and called it "innovative" despite he fact that it doesn't work.

The whole thing looks worse than a $40 blender I got for $15 (and this one actually works as a blender) and it cost $25 normal price $100 (LOL)

I have been dissapointed by every single Russell Hobbs product I've bought. They appear to be designed by high school age children with the design skills you'd expect: looks blingy but made of 1mm thick plastic and doesn't work well functionally.

    Never again.

Have to agree. These retro style appliances are junk. They look good from a distance. It's ironic that they're mimicking the looks of old reliable appliances when they're the opposite. You know they're over priced when they can often be had for 50%+ off. That's always a red flag. What's always 50% off at Coles and Woolie's? Junk food.

  • Hm, I know everyone on this site hates things, but something to consider:
