Why not get the next model up, 45 in 1 for AU$7.87 - http://www.dd4.com/goods/Precision-45-In-1-Electron-Torx-Min…

      • +4

wait so how much are these normally? (not trying to copy JV just curious)

      • This is kind of like the 7 minute abs scenario in There's Something About Mary.

      • +3

        Yeah, that's probably even better.

PS: My brain couldn't decide between 'This is also good' & 'This one is also good'. Ended up with 'This is one is also good'. lol

        • What?

        • +2

          @Hirolol:

AKA: Pardon?, excuse me?, sorry?, What was that? Come again? or even Please explain?

        • @stonkered: Huh?

      • ordered the 45 in 1!

      • They charge USD 5.85 regardless of what currency you select - about AUD 8.20 via PayPal.

    • +1

i notice that those head plated are different

      one says bright chrome plated
the other one says white nickel plated

fk it, i am gonna go with the 48 in 1.

  • +1

I think i only have 3 of these!

  • Does it have that basic one required for IKEA DIY furniture assembling? I am wondering since the post talks more about mobile, electronics repair ones which are generally tiny.

    • +1

I have one of these and can confirm that they dont come with heads(?) for your regular phillips/flat head 'everyday' size

    • +3

For IKEA diy. Take the Allen key provided and cut the short length off with pair of bulk cutters. Then attach it to an electric drill. Makes assembly so much faster.

      • +1

Bulk carriers always carry bolt cutters.

Always wear eye protection that accords with Australian Standard YN7-You-Cock-707.

        • +1

Thank you for correcting my spelling mistake…wasn't sure.

        • Dear @shuttlesmasher,

I'd like to take this brief opportunity to apologise for my unacceptable rudeness with my reference to the Australian Standard. I hope you forgive me.

BTW, here's a shot of a Bulk Carrier going through the Suez Canal.

          @steamtrain.

        • @steamtrain: All good. No hard feelings. :)

        • @shuttlesmasher:

Thanks, guys! I wasn't sure of anything but the spelling of 'bolt'. Just kidding. :)

    • Allen keys are hexagonal so assuming the hex ones will work if size is right

    • Does it have that basic one required for IKEA DIY furniture assembling?

Ikea furniture always comes with the correct sized Allen Key or other special tools that you need to assemble it.

And there is no standard size - so you'd need to get a whole set to cover all the sizes.

Except you don't need to buy a set, because they are included with each piece or Ikea furniture.

Anyway, this deal is for a precision screwdriver set, for taking apart watches, mobile phones, other small gadgets. It's totally unsuitable and unusable for the 4mm to 8mm fasteners used in furniture.

      • I haven't bought DIY stuff from Ikea but recently bought some cupboards from Aldi, which are very identical to Ikea ones but didn't have Allen key or any other tool apart from screws of course. I thought Ikea DIY funiture comes the same way.

        • Ikea furniture always comes with whatever is needed to assemble. Most Ikea furniture I've seen doesn't even use screws. They generally use those cam-locking devices if it's timber-based.

It's not really a good idea to use power tools for screws into chipboard etc as it's amazingly easy to apply too much torque and strip the hole.

I have built a lot of DIY furniture over the years, and I don't recall ever using a electric tool to assemble them. The whole idea of such furniture is so that you don't need tools.

        • @llama: Also, the wood quality isn't great in DIY stuff so it's good for only manual power and not machine torque. :)

  • Got one of these from ple or msy or some computer store. Certainly a good set to have.

  • does the rubber handles twist on the shaft?

    • I got a cheap one like this a few years back and it just spins on the shaft. Makes it useless.

  • +1

    Isn't this just junk?

    • Got any better to recommend? Looking for a nice screwdriver, torx and hex screw driver set. Serious question.

      • +2

No I don't sorry, but I reckon a good screwdriver kit will last a lifetime but you'll have to spend a bit more than $4.26.

    • +2

This is junk. A mate had one and the tips just ground down.

      • +3

Try Bunnings. Bought similar one 48 in 1 for about 6.50 and is excellent quality.

      • +2

I have a couple sets of these and haven't had a single one "ground down". They have been used extensively for laptop and mobile phone repairs. I'm not sure what your mate was using them for.

        • +1

Stiff fasteners on phones, laptops and routers. The problem is the tip of the screw driver burrs and deforms and slips out of the screw, damaging the screw and any future screws used in the process. Part of the handle broke at some point as well. He ended up throwing it out after the most useful tips were gone.

In retrospect, we probably did get our moneys worth from the kit. It did fix a bit of gear. If you don't encounter any stiff fasteners you might be all right. Personally I'd just buy a better kit.

    • +2

can confirm, this is junk . the tips is wear out very easily

    • I own a similar set that I purchased in 2011.
whilst the quality is poor, the usefulness of the number of different heads makes up for it.
yes a lot of the tips are ground or twisted, still a lot are useful.

  • can any of these be used to open the foxtel wall box screw type that has a hole in the middle with a centre point? i think its called a hex u screw?

  • +1

Fails to accept PayPal for its payment gateway.

  • Same drama, created new account, cant confirm email and cant pay via paypal.

  • +2

I've got one of these sets… absolute junk not worth even $2

  • +2

I've got this 32-in-1 Jackly kit.

    annoyances
    * my case is difficult to open, certainly when trying to do it the 'normal' way from the top tab. I tackle it from the sides.
    * if you decide to pack the screwdriver away with the tip inside it, it won't fit inside the case; the tip needs to be taken out & placed inside its designated slot inside the case in order to fit the screwdriver handle back in. If they made the case about a centimetre taller, they'd be able to fit the screwdriver in with a tip inserted. Poor oversight.

    uncertainties
    * I don't know how long it will last. I had a similar-looking kit from another manufacturer (incidentally with a much more comfortable rubberised handle) but it bent very easily when tightening a 'blade' flat screw. I was somewhat to blame; I should have used a larger screwdriver for the task. Still, I didn't think it would bend so easily. I'm not sure if this one will be the same. Maybe. But I'm not too eager to try. These kits are designed for small screws.

    likes
    * the bright handle and case makes it easier to locate amongst the mess
    * I like that the case has a hole which can be used for hanging
    * I like the rough texture on the front & back of the case
    * I think it's definitely worth getting; just don't give it big jobs designed for bigger tools and you should be OK

    • I used to find it hard to open. If you push the bottom 'up' it should give a satisfying open.

      • Which button? There is only a small tab at the top of the door frame. If you look carefully it says OPEN.
        http://image.dd4.com/data/files/store_41301/goods_161/201506…

With my case it's super-difficult to open unless you squeeze the sides and pull open.

        • +1

Yeah mate you're doing it wrong.

I went to the garage and filmed myself doing it one handed - here's a link (for anyone else who's curious too - took me a while to find it out). In case it's not clear I'm pushing the bottom upwards i.e. parallel to the face with the clear plastic:

        • @blighst:
Oh right. You're pressing down on the yellow bit where the lug is. You've got to admit this could have been designed or manufactured better. Thanks for the vid ;)

        • @cheepwun:

Yeah can't say it's be best designed product of the year. But once you know how it's actually not too bad.

  • +1

I bought a similar 31 in 1 from eBay over 5 years ago and can definitely recommend it. Comes in a more compact container.

    $3.49.

    • +1

Yeah i got one of them.
      Dropped it once - a major calamity…

      • Same

  • Thanks OP, eneded up buying the 45 in 1. No dramas with account creation or paypal payment (PC).

  • These aren't as crap as they'd seem. The magnet appears to be good enough and I've had no trouble opening hard drives, etc. with it.

  • From the reviews on the 45 in 1, it takes a long time for the package to arrive. Some reviews claim they haven't gotten it after 2+ months.

  • When you click Buy it Now it takes forever to load. I wasn't able to complete purchase after waiting for 10 minutes.. so I left it

    • Yea, same here. Wanted to buy one, but oh well…

  • Just tried to buy from these guys:

Payment cleared on my end, saw a $7.95 debit on my mastercard.

    DD4 says, payment still pending.

I am now avoiding this website. Luckily I may have only lost $7.95. A small price to pay.

    • +1

      Hi,
This is rep from DD4.com. Could you please let me know your order number? I'll let people check.

      • Hi Summer,

Email support has told me to wait another day to see my payment clear.

(Edit: It's been approved, not happy to have had this problem. But glad to have the problem sorted out quickly)

    • +1

Yes I'm in the same situation. It appears on my credit card already but it says pending payment.

My other issue is certificate issues after login. Makes it hard to log back in to the website

EDIT - online chat was useful - payment confirmed

  • The price that they show on their website compared to what they charge you is different. You are shown a price in AUD's (current fx rates) on their website but when you are checking out, you will end up paying USD's and no financial institution will give you the market FX rates so you will end up losing even if slightly (depending on purchase amount).

    This is quiet misleading.

    • Yes, it was rather confusing. I initially was going to pay via Paypal but then switched to a transaction fee free CC

  • Mine hasn't arrived yet, has anyone else's?

    • Yeah, my tracking says its still in PostNL Sorting facility. Being shipped from the Netherlands, weird

      • Some Chinese sellers use the cheapest postal services e.g. Sweden post, NL post, singapore post, etc to handle delivery. Some how it's cheaper than China Post. I've had many items travel around the world. It seems different but it works, albeit slowly.

  • OK mine is the same - stuck in NLPost. Will give it a bit longer.. 25days and counting

  • I contacted them, and was told to contact them again if it had not arrived in 90 working days. 90 days!! Not happy

    • +1

      mine came today.

90 is ridiculous - I can't remember if Paypal would refund this purchase or not? I would give it another week then if you purchased it through Paypal put a request for a refund.

  • Tried making an account couple times, unable to make an account.

Looks like ill wait to buy from somewhere else when its this price
