I picked up the 500w version over the weekend for around 50c extra. I threw away the receipt but worth looking out for

  You realise that's going to cost something like 10 bucks for half a days use right?
  
  Is there some reason halogen is preferred because on the face of it to me it seems insane to use such an inefficient lamp technology with such high energy inputs.

    You can run the 500w lamp for 10 hours for less than $1.50. $10 usage as you claim is more like 80 hours of usage, or 24 hours a day for 3 days.

      You must be paying ten times less for energy than I am.
      
      Ausgrid calculates 12 hours using 500W as costing ~$63
