Sennheiser Momentum 2.0/M2 over Ear $342.40 @ Harvey Norman

80

I was gonna post this yesterday but decided to hold back until I actually get my hands on one.

Harvey Norman is having a stocktake sale with these going for $342 online BUT if you go into stores, they'll be able to knock off a few extra dollars. I got it from jb for $330 by price matching and asking if they could :)

Anyway, I've tested this out in stores a few months back and have been waiting for it to go on sale.
Ebay are selling these for $400+ and Wireless1 is doing it for $529 making the CLICK20 useless.
Local stock, local warranty, best price vs online, can't go wrong.

It is ranked 4 compared to its competitors with the top 3 ranks costing ~$600.

Enjoy :)

  • Name of store in title please

  • Have a pair of these and they are great, even compared to my HD 600 headphones ….might get a pair for my son.

    • $350 headphones for your son?

Can I be your son too… daddy?

  • I bought one last weekend, IOS version as they do not have Android version. Music sounds so much better on my 5 years old Ipod than on my current LG G Flex 2 and Xiaomi Mi Note Pro. Was thinking of going for the wireless version but HN have that for double the money, decided that it does not worth twice the money.

    • the wireless was selling for $530ish from addictedtoaudio 2 months back, didn't cross my mind about posting it sorry :(

      • oppo pm-3 at this point.

  • they are certainly BETTER than HD600, but the price is not fantastically good. i remember i saw a cheaper price before. anyway, if i could sell my momentum 1 for a reasonable price, i may consider to get a pair of the BT version.

    • I was gonna get the wireless version 2 months back but decided against it cause active noise canceling is on 24/7 with no way to turn it off.
One of the video reviews even mentions that the song will be offbalance as well if it's noisy on 1 part of the room and quiet in the other and that's not something any headphone should do.

      • I went for the Urbanite XL Wireless for the fact it doesn't have active noise cancelling. Couldn't think of anything worse.

        • How did you find they compare to the momentums? They sound less clear and more bassy to me.

        • +1

          @mit:

I didn't really try the Momentum as they were way too expensive. The sound on the Urbanite is really clear to me (but like I said, haven't tried the Momentum). You are right though, they are quite bass heavy. Fortunately for me, that's exactly what I wanted. It was out of them and the Bose SoundLink wireless but they had little to no bass.

I was worried about buying the Urbanite as most reviews said the cups were too small and sat on your ear rather than around. I tried a pair on in two stores, one was too small and the other fit perfectly (not sure why). They come on special for $247 and figured I'd take the gamble, got a good pair that fit over the ears perfectly. Wouldn't have risked it at $500 though.

        • @cala90: Thanks for that. Just checking it wasn't just me. Might bite on this deal.

        • @mit:
I'd recommend grabbing these instead but I can't post it cause they only have 2 in stock.
          http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Sennheiser-MM-550-X-BLUETOOTH-HEADP…

Wireless1 is doing it for 459 and with cliclmore coupon it is still 380?

The mm550x fits around the ear, as clear as the momentum and potentially more musical. It offers talkthrough, wireless, aptx, and clamps head very lightly but still comfortable, you can move and jump around without it falling let alone wobble.

The only con I have is not being able to check the battery life and maybe volume not being loud enough if not powered on.
The momentums fit around the ear no prob but the insides would still push the ear abit, as in it will get sore but not bad enough to force you to take them off similar to on ear headphones.

        • @Zeral: Thanks for the suggestion. I can't try these and I generally don't blind purchase things like this. But if I was going to, I'd probably just wait for a price drop or jump on the $499 qc35s. Those Senns are 2 yrs old and Bose are new. It can be assumed the NC and possibly wireless on the Bose is superior.

I got to try the Qc35s in store and they don't disappoint. I found the sound to be less crisp on the qc35s compared to Momentums but the NC is ridiculous. So mm550x v qc35s? I'd spend $100 more and get something great and newer.

        • @mit:
I was also in the same situation 2 months back thinking newer is always better but not always the case.
The mm550x has had features that other headphones lack or just implementing them now… Qc35 being a good example. I think mm550x is still the only headphone with the talkthrough button, removable battery and SRS, qc35 lack aptx.

As for the qc35, they're practically too new and will be overpriced. Check the difference between the older model QC series before taking the jump, I took the buy 2 for the same price as 1 and got myself the latest momentum too :D
Not sure if Bose stocks the wired version for you to do the same, heck just grab the momentum 2 wired and wireless qc25!
You can practically get both for the same price as 1 qc35 probably lol

I'm happy to own both, wireless for chores and no wire convenience while the wired version covers up for the lack of volume and audio quality. Even when plugging the wireless headphone into the headphone jack, volume is not loud enough.

        • @Zeral: Yep you are right with those features. For 2 years old, it does very well. I feel as though it was overlooked - hardly any reviews or videos on it.

For now I'm not gonna bother with Bose. I'll just stick with wired momentums probably. Gonna try the pm-3 and a few others tomorrow.

    • I forget to enrol, damn, would have save some money.

Way too expensive for a corded headphones.

    • +1

      ?????
and why would wireless headphones be more expensive?
it's not about portability with headphones, it's about the quality in most cases - there are headphones that are $1000+ that are corded, so your complaint has no substance

    • +1

Thanks for your useless comment. I bet you have something you've bought that somebody else would find way too expensive also. :)

  • I have a pair of the Wireless version, with active noise cancelling. So much detail, you can hear the layers of a song :)

  • Do you need "tiny" ears like the first Momentum over ear ones did to fit? :(
Great sound but uncomfortable, I don't use mine at all because of that.

Haven't tried these 2.0's yet, but the 1.0's sound great.
If they made them, like half cup size again, I might be interested.

I have a broad mixture of brands and styles, I admit they do sound well worth the money for closed cans and quality is superb . (1.0's)

    • its surprising that you didnt read any review regarding the V2.0, considering you "have a broad mixture of brands and styles". all the design flaws are fixed in V2.0 and now these cans are foldable too.

      • Can't try them on for ear size just by reading a review.

        I need measurements. :)
As we get older our ears get bigger.

By broad mixture I meant a variety, qualified enough for a general opinion I guess.

I read comments below reviews, surely you have an opinion?
It's not about me, rather the cans I thought.

  • After spending all night with it, I'm pretty impressed, no wonder there are no second hands being sold on ebay let alone auctions.
From a headphone junkie like me and that head fier in the description, this is the best bang for buck. If sennheiser were to put the RRP $800 or something, I would pay $500 for it with no remorse… But since the RRP is $500… You know the drill :)

JB only had the iPhone version and the volume controls don't work with android, but I bought it with the intent for pc/vita/3ds, so make sure you buy the correct model if it is for phone use only. It sounds really great with a phone too which requires no dac/amp mumbo jumbo and I will probably get an extension cable to use it with the bedroom tv/PS4 as well.

    • btw I bit the bullet and got the oppo pm-3s instead. Much better built but also heavier. Definately not as compact portable and maybe fashionable. But got a deal for $450 down from the average $550-600 so couldn't really let that go. With an amp, the bass comes out of it's shell but its acceptable for me from my s7.

Also tried the PSB m4u1 and NAD hp50. If the NADs didn't look so.. NADdish… I'd have chosen them.

      • Nice :D
Macadoneonhero listed it as the 2nd best portable headphone so I don't doubt his words considered he has probably spent over 100k on headphones.
I just needed something cheap and portable as I already have the T1's but if it's your first or 2nd headphone,450 is a good starting point, not too cheap nor too expensive and is easy to drive from your s7 :)
