From $565 Perth to Tokyo (Haneda) Return on China Southern Travel Dates 21st Oct to 16th Nov

60

Hey guys,

Love Japan so I'm always on the lookout for good deals. Spotted this today and priced it up for the following dates as it would suite and had flights with good layovers:
1st of November to the 16th of November PER-HND-PER - $566.50 including taxes.

They don't have scheduled flights everyday and only a few per week with good layovers. You can also look into flying into Tokyo/Osaka and out the other as well (which is what I'd recommend if you plan to do both cities/areas). Would be slightly more to do that most of the time but not much difference.

If you've seen me in the forums I like to answer Japan questions so feel free to shoot me a PM anytime. Happy travels!

  • when would you recommend the best times to buy flights to Japan in the cherry blossom season next year? :)

    • each year it varies so I'd choose earlier than later. April but avoid Golden Week

    • Flight pricing, I have never seen sales for the special holidays / Snow season in Japan. Peak travel time = high demand = high prices. For those times, as soon as you know your dates get that booked. This offer is cheap because technically it's low season. However Autumn colours in Japan are lovely.

      • ah yes i was deciding before whether to go in Autumn or Spring… thanks! ill definitely consider autumn a bit more now then.

        • +2

The only time I'd not recommend Japan is dead in the middle of Summer. Hot and Monsoon does not equal a good time for your average traveller. Spring there is good weather and temperatures, Autumn there is good weather and the golden colours of leaves, Winter it's dry and there is snow sports.

But personally, I'd go Japan any time. If I can't go out due to rain I'll just eat hahaha.

    • It changes slightly from year to year, but as a rule the end of March through to mid April are your best bets.
I was there for the snow in mid February and there were a handful in bloom, but yeah, definitely safest to go a little later in the year, if that's one of your "must sees".

  • Read here before you book [A Warning to Stay Away from China Southern Airways - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/248967 ]

    • Everyone's miles may vary but A TL:DR from my post in that thread: 4 years is a long time ago. But by all means a holiday isn't a proper holiday if aren't enjoying every aspect so if the flights leave you with doubt, go with the excellent Cathay deal that's out right now for a few hundred more.

      • True. They should call the ACCCC then.

  • so do they never do winter flights on special?

    • Japan is a big Ski destination for Aussies so demand is never an issue. Just from a pure business sense, why sell it for cheap when people buy it at full price.

But to answer your question no never. High season never goes on sale, unless it's an expo special. The travel expos that Flight Centre hosts are your best bet since to participate all airlines need to bring a special to the table. Even then though they will have black out dates.

In general though flights to Japan are getting cheaper. ~$900 booking at the start of the year was a bargain on a full service, now all these super specials are out for $500-$700. We'll have to see if these prices stick post EOFY though, fingers crossed.

      • Thanks for that. So $900 for next year feb is a good deal I take it.

I was waiting for cheaper but by the sounds I wont find any cheaper..

        • I'm actually looking out for flights for the missus and myself for Jan. Yeah Ski / Cherry Blossoms are the two biggest reasons to travel to Japan year round.

Sorry I meant that $900 was booking at the start of the year for like October/November.

        • @Ryugen: I see Japan would be nice but trying to go February with my partner.

I found a $900 return from sydney for this time should I take it?

        • @livv92: Hey, I just had a quick look. Wow you guys get direct flights to Tokyo with ANA and JL hahaha did not know. $900 for that time is pretty good. I don't know what dates or flights you picked but random dates I'm seeing about $972/pp in Feb

        • @Ryugen: Thanks for looking for me. Yeah we do! I'm looking at the 20th feb- 28th feb 9 nights and 10 days :)

  • I went to Japan with Singapore Airlines for $1,133 aud return. Perth-Singapore-Tokyo and returning the same way from Osaka.

What I can say is I went March 16th or so from memory to about april 2nd/3rd and cherry blossoms are definitely towards the end of march, safest in april. There's no way i'd go in February for cherry blossoms - there just wouldn't be any (to the question above).

As for prices, if you find anything under what I paid for dec-feb (so say flights under $1k return aud) for a full service airline, that's bloody great! I've heard of some great specials, but they are very, very rare, so you'd have to be prepared to pounce on an once off special - so dates, leave and certainity about when you want to go.

I went solo and I was up in Hakuba for the snow around 20th-23rd of March. I got some fresh powder days but most of it was dry, and I can say I had a pretty awesome time snowboarding. I heard there are long lift lines but if anything I Felt it was quite empty/desserted. I either walked straight up to the lifts or had a short wait i.e. a couple of people back. From the picture si see in promo tourists i see long snaking lines across the field so I can't imagine how busy it must get?

That said by that march period while there wasn't new snow, alot of lower runs back down to base were dry or exposed, but if i stuck to some of the bigger more common runs on goryu (i used hakuba snow school from memory, so they go from goryu's iwatake or something liek that - forgot the name) there was still snow.

What i find is during that Mach period the suns out more often. On my last day I got a blue sky day, soft snow as it was warm, and it was the most awesome feeling boarding from near the top half of the mountain with my instructor down. Unimpeded views, blue skies, 360 degree awesomness, and soft snow. Somehow warm weather makes it soft, as opposed to when I went over east to Mt BUller and it just turns into disgusting slush - must be the water there?!

    • P.S. Japan is such a lovely place, being asian in heritage it feels more like at home with me, but if you're open with your food, culture, language and don't act like a tool over there (i.e. none of that aussie bali bogan shizz) you'll get great respect from the locals and an endless, i mean endless amount of food, beer, alcohol, and shopping (it's amazing what quirky little everyday things you can pickup there).

Responsibility is great - I'd walk into the base camp food court and the vending machine was easily open to pop a few coins in and get an ice cold asahi - sure any 12 year old could have come and bought some alcohol, but I guess this wasn't australia haha. Still , great times :) It's a shame about the nuclear reactor incident, as I'd be too scared to travel to the northern parts. I close one eye for tokyo and further south/west, where radiation will be lower.
