Samsung J5100 50" TV - $699.99 (Tag Price $899.99) @ Costco (Membership Required) *Moorabbin Store if That Matters

160

Saw this and thought it to be a decent deal for a 50" Full HD Samsung TV.

I could be wrong but from what I can see online it's a solid price.

    reviews are rather sub par..

…The screen takes a while to come up after you turn it on and there's a 3 sec lag before the next channel comes up after you have selected it. The remote is small and I have small hands. The enter button is not conveniently located. The arrow keys do not work for channel selection only for viewing pictures on the USB. The TV cannot be tilted or swung round. Once an app is selected using chromecast, I have to select HDMI manually. Even my 10 year old TV does it automatically.

why would you give the TV 4 stars!?!?

    • Seems to get a 3-4.5 around to world so not hideously bad but not astounding by any stretch.

With a cheap TV comes cheaper expectations i would have thought. Decent tv as a secondary/kids room. Id pick this up if I didn't already score one of the 48" ones they had a few months ago for ~$500 or what ever it was.

People usually don't go and brag about their TV on their product review website. Usually go there to make a complain.

    • None of these are actual issues if you use the TV primarily via a smart tv device.

      How's the panel quality?

  • I don't think this is 50hz. ok for a spare, I wouldn't want to use it as a main / daily display.

Costco has now started Rain Checks too if there is no stock in your store

  • I saw these and wondered about posting it last week.
I decided against it in this case. It's old stock as the TV is 4 series' old + the price isn't THAT good for what the TV is.
Yeah name brand, whatever whatever..blah blah…it just didn't ring the bargain alarm for me.

    • That's a series 6 and 40". Series after this one I think. Unsure though.

      • Yep, that's a series 6 - smart tv plus 4 hdmi ports versus dumb and 2 hdmi ports (for example). This is an updated series 5 panel, whatever that might mean. ;-)

Don't care about the smart features - personally I prefer to use something like a Chromecast and reduce the time it takes to startup the tv…. also the separate devices tend to be updated sooner as well as are cheap to replace. The two hdmi ports is a bit annoying though - even with a tv destined to go into the games room, that means once you've hooked up the game console and a blue ray player, you've ran out of ports for (say) a chromecast or a second console or the foxtel/fetch/whatever box etc - unless you get a receiver or hdmi switch where you are now starting to eat into the money saved by getting the cheaper tv….
