Check on the window at the entrance of the shop, they usually display all accepted credit cards, easy to spot AMEX if it's there…

    • I just used the app with the locations closest to me, that way, even if they didn't take Amex, I'd have a good case to ask Amex for the credit, since they were promoting that location.

    • Phone them?

  • They normally have stickers on the pump with which payment methods are accepted.

So used 4 out of 12 available (4 cards)this afternoon and the sales assistant had no issue with splitting the purchase into $40 chunks. Emails already received by the time I got home. 130 odd litres down the spout. At 25% off that is a big win.

  • I know it can take up to 5 days for the refund but has anyone already got the money credited to their card?

    • $10 credit has come through today.

      • Nice. Did you use the $40 towards fuel or gc?

  • Filled up with their 98 Octane this morning. It's expensive at 1.469¢/l when 91 cost 1.279¢/l but as I drove off, I felt the difference as if the engine was running smoother. I've used Shell and Caltex 98 Octane regularly but have not had the same experience. Has anyone experienced the same?

    • I thought I felt the same too! And was second-thinking if it was all in my mind because I paid more haha.

Anyone else who might have felt the same? I'm looking out for better mileage now….

      • Depends on the car… for older cars, 95 is good enough compared to 91… but for higher end Jap/European cars, you'd definitely feel the difference between 91 and 98… more power and more mileage

    • same…not sure if i noticed any difference but I did get the Amex email before I had walked back to the car.

My mentality was it was more 98 Octane for the price of regular unleaded, after I get the cashback

  • Hi folks

Some of the BP Petrol station transactions will appear as "AA (location)" in the credit card statement instead of "BP (location)"
Will AMEX be able to pick this up as transaction from BP and give $10 credit back?
    http://apps.nowwhere.com.au/bp/onlinedirectory?state=VIC

    • +1

All my transactions are "AA" and I have received confirmation emails for every single one of them so far

  • Does anyone know if there is a maximum amount you can have on your opal card?
    Thanks

    • +1

250 but no limit to how many opal card you can own

      • thanks!

  • went to the closest bp and they didn't have gift cards.

is the last day today or tomorrow?

    • a month from tomorrow :)

spend $40 or more, in one transaction, in-store only at BP by 14/7/16 to receive one $10 credit.

      • ohh, even better, thanks :P

So far I filled up at two different BP locations. First had 2.2% and the second had 2.5% surcharge for Amex. Surcharges are written on pumps. It's impossible for Amex not to know this practise. Their petrol is already more expensive then caltex or 7/11 and they're still charging surcharge. I don't know how they survive but I would never use them without this type of amex deals.

    • I had one which had the 2.2% written on the pump, but when paying no surcharge was applied (Port Mac. NSW BP)

    • The surcharge was 2.5% at the BP on Yanko Rd, Pymble.

  • I went to a BP station today and filled up my card with exactly $40 to get $10 credits back to my Amex card.

However, when I went to the cashier, the gentlemen told me that:

the cashier: "Sorry we don't accept Amex"
me: "I saw the Amex logo at the door"
the cashier: "no you cannot use Amex here"
me: "try! Amex should work with this terminal"
the cashier: "no no, you can't use Amex here"

I ended up by using my ING Direct visa debit card to get 2% cashback and very upset that my Amex card cannot be used at this BP station:

    200 Compton Road,
    Kuraby, QLD, 4112
    Phone:
    07 3423 0599
    Store No:
    5871
    ERP ID:
    50393185

I am not sure if I can complain this to Bp or Amex because they advertise that they accept Amex and then refused my Amex card.

Contact AmEx directly about it, they should credit the $10 for you. Good idea to attach a copy of the receipt as well so they have all the transaction details.

    • Is this location on their list..
If so just contact Amex, explain situation, and the should give you a manual credit

      • It doesn't matter this BP station is on the list or not. They put the Amex, Visa and Master logos at the door, they should accept them. I emailed Amex and asked them to email back to me because i cannot attach the receipt in the message.

        • Divious,i agreed they should take Amex card, this is call Merchant Suppression. You should report this case to Amex's Merchant dept and Amex will send someone to speak to this merchant.

  • Has anyone got their credit on their statement yet?

    • I got $10 back for the first spend

    • I got an email in 10 minutes after my first spend…but nothing after my second spend. Is there a condition to wait for minimum period between two transactions?

      • Yeah weird didn't get it at all….
        Done it two times now..

      • Contacted American Express…and just got my credit processed…should show up in the account in 3-5 days.

  • Yes, got mine a few days ago.

    Got all 36 X $10 back

    • Why spend all 36 now when deal goes for another month?

      • fast tracking the benefit just in case I forget the redeem deadline!

    • Wow, did you spend $1440. Or did you just get gift cards?

      • +1

Yeah the latter, bit hard to fill up that much petrol in 2 weeks!!

        • +4

          Well done.
          "I forget the redeem deadline"
Now you just have to make sure you do not forget to redeem the gift cards!!!

        • What is the expiry on BP giftcards - 12 months? Gotta remember myself to get those giftcards soon.

        • And I take it they were able to do split payment as they do not have the $40 denomination?

        • @JLQC5899: Yes, but while the staff members I encountered are all helpful (doing it towards late night / midnight helps as they are not as busy), I heard this is not the case across the board.

        • Which BP did you get gift cards at? How many did you have to buy (ie. what $$ amount)

        • +2

@spacecowboy: personally I bought VISA gift cards which can be loaded up to $500 each. Burwood East VIC sells them.

        • @feihong:I did this with the Amex HN deal

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/246022

Bought $700 in gcs in one transaction split across 2 Amexs for $100 discount (actually $88.10 after $5.95 Activation fee for both gcs). Did not know BP sells VISA gcs also.

        • @spacecowboy: Yes, I also did that at HN after seeing the same thread as you did (you probably saw my reply there to 'akanie'). I was delightfully surprised to see the same VISA gift card sold at BP!

        • @feihong:

And here I was feeling bad when I ask to split my transaction 5 times buying a $200 visa gift card. Well done. PS anyone buying visa gift cards keep an eye out on the short expiry. All of them seem to expire 10/16.

        • @feihong: Is there an activation fee for the VISA gift card? and I assume you made 8 separate $40 payment to load up the $500 VISA gift cards? Was there any surcharge using AMEX for payment?

        • +1

@Fernley: The gift card itself costs $5.95 regardless of the amount loaded, so yes I did 13 separate transactions to purchase $505.95 of VISA gift card + $25 BP gift card.

        • @feihong: So you made $130 minus fee?

The HN one seems better value though.

Wow I have 7 amex's imagine that LOL

        • @Turd:both HVN and BP deals are equally attractive to me (who doesn't like free cash?) and they have all been redeemed this way :D

        • @feihong: Nice work, I might try it. You can reload it on separate days right?

        • @Turd: those VISA gift cards are non reloadable ones, see mygift2u.com.au

    • +1

Can you use the same card three times in a row when you split payment?

      • +2

        yes

  • Spent $40 on an Opal card top up on Tuesday and $43 on petrol on Thursday and got two lots of $10 back :)

  • Went to the sàme BP station where I previously bought BP GC and petrol with Amex. Got told off today as they said I can only pay with savings or cheque for the GC. I think it depends on who you are dealing with. But for sure I won't be back there soon. What is their problem ??

    • Tell them you will ring the ACCCC!

or just ring the ACCCC, im sure profesional ozbargainers have it on speed dial.

      • +1

What does the last C stand for?

        • (profanity)

      • I think we should ask BP why they are doing this.

        • Like you said it depends on who's doing it. I have a suspicion that you might have encountered the owner or someone with a vested interest in the business, and they tried to deny you using AMEX because of the fees. My dad encountered a different issue.. The staff member wouldn't let him do split payments because the guy said it will cost them too much to do so.

        • -1

@feihong: But still it will bring them business right ? When they rejected for split payment, ask them what happen if I want to pay by gc but the value is less than what I have to pay ? They will split the payment too right ? I guess they just being pathetic. I have asked the question to BP and see if they will compensate my time dealing with the store.

        • @yht: I agree, and btw if you email to AMEX about the situation I think you have a very good chance of getting your statement credits anyway.

        • +1

@feihong:Don't think so of I mentioned that I am purchasing gc

        • @yht: Oh that's true.. I forgot :(

        • @feihong: BP has replied saying that they don't set a particular payment method to purchase gc, meaning we can purchase with any avail method. I ask for escalation and compensation for wasting my time. Lets see what they will do now.

        • @yht:
Same just happened to my parents. Am emailing BP now.

        • @bargain_knight: I think the staff who rejected credit payment to purchase gc is aware about AMEX promotion and didn't like people to get benefit of the cash back. BP has responded and they will lodge the complaint to the store manager and that's it. They don't budge to give any compensation or whatsoever for the trouble. I am not going back to the same store to do the same and again find out the Manager has not pass on the memo to the staff.

        • @yht:
Not sure I quite believe that, as it does not impact the staff. I suspect it is a directive from the franchise owner as they do not benefit from such sales. I.e. they don't make any money, but BP on the whole benefits.

But who really knows the motivation here.

BTW, which BP rejected you. Mine was BP South Melbourne, City Road.

        • @bargain_knight: Mine in WA

        • -1

@bargain_knight: If you manage to get some compensation from BP, please let me know as they said they can't give me any compensation. Bloody BP !

        • @yht:
I doubt they will compensate. But it is bad form from them.

        • @bargain_knight: Agreed, bad customer service.

        • @bargain_knight: I am sure that the staff is aware of Amex promotion as he mentioned about cash back. And as I mentioned earlier, I previously purchased gc from the same store using my Amex without any issue with a different staff.

        • +1

I am in NSW, Sydney .. does anyone know which BP sells Visa GC?

        • @yht:
I was told by customer service via email today that their policy used to be cash only but now they take cash or credit card.

        • Most BP in NSW sells. But so far I was unsuccessful to use Amex. I went to 3 of them. All said cash or savings.

        • @Shikha966: Have you emailed BP to complain ?

  • wondering how to check BP GC balance?

    • I guess we can only do it instore ?

  • I've used all my amex cards 3 times each at different BPs and my amex offer is still showing as available rather than Redeemed like my other amex offers. I've got a feeling that amex have implemented this offer as upto 3 times per BP outlet rather than 3 times across all BP.

Has anyone used this offer more than 3 times on a single card at different outlets? If so, what were your results?

    • Do you mean it shows up as an available offer you can add to your card or it shows up in your offers that you have added to your card (but says not redeemed)?

      • Shows up in offers but not redeemed.
I have observed this as well. Keen to knkw the results.

      • Shows as added to the card but does not say redeemed like the other offers. I finished using all mine a couple of weeks ago now.

  • it seems this deal is still available. just done two $40 transactions and got two emails from amex.

    • Has anyone tried to use the deal more than 3 times? Perhaps at different BP stations as someone was suggesting earlier? It would be really good if it worked 3 times at each BP.

      • If anyone to try, possibly the safest is by buying gc.

    • It is still available to those who have already registered. AMEX credit offer expires 14th July.
The deal is marked as 'out of stock' as the maximum number of registrations has been reached.

  • found a store that sold gift cards, but wouldn't let me pay with credit card.

    • +1

      Report it to BP direct.

      • +1

"Thank you for contacting BP and raising your concerns.

You are able to purchase BP Gift Cards from a retail site with a credit card, cash or EFTPOS. BP Plus Cards and other fuel cards are not able to purchase Gift Cards.

We do apologise for the inconvenience in this situation - I have raised your feedback to our area manager for BP Wembley so we can re-iterate our correct procedures to our staff.

As a token of our appreciation for your feedback and taking the time to contact us, I have posted some BP Superwash and Wild Bean Coffee vouchers to you.

Thank you again for your feedback."

        • You are lucky to get the offer. Who is the person that sent you the email ?

        • @yht:

Michael Lambert | Customer Response Officer

        • goddammit, still wouldn't let me use credit card even after showing them the email.

tomorrow's still good to try, right?

        • @thydzik: Thanks, is his email [email protected] ?

        • @thydzik: Cheers, I had also the response from the same email address but from a different person.
