God damn that $34 USD to $60 AUD just is depressing.
That's usd without shopping & aud with shipping though
It's $49.99USD on steam and they won't ship to aus.
Going to grab one, been on the ol' fence for a while.
THanks
Good price to make it worth a try I guess.
Although, a few weeks ago they did say this, "In the future, we are working on a hardware revision to the controller to improve look and feel,".
How much is going to change and how soon is anyone's guess.
You'd be better off just buying an Xbox one controller locally. When the costs add up
This is nothing like an Xbox controller.
Yeah but it would be better wouldn't it?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't use xbox one controllers wirelessly on PC yet?
Corrected. I'm sure better prices are available elsewhere.
I think I picked my USB dongle up for $25 at JB hifi at release. Those who don't already have an xbox one controller make sure you get a revised version like the Halo controller, the original release controllers had terrible shoulder buttons and directional pad.
I have a 360 wired controller, will there be a significant difference with this?
I've switched back and forth between an XBox One and DualShock 4 controller and the XBox 360 D-Pad is awful, however I prefer the shape of the XBox 360 controller and the location of the sticks.
There has to be better controller out there.
Try the Xbox One dpad, much more improved.
Cheers Dewy.
I have the ps4 pad is much better. the position of the buttons and the quality of the stick and dpad
This uses trackpads instead of thumbsticks, it's meant to be a completely different experience. I'd watch some videos on it before deciding.
I bought a steam controller about 6 months ago and it's been great. I don't really game with a keyboard and mouse and this has made FPS games a heap of fun to play on the couch. If you buy one of these and want some configuration tips I'd recommend checking out reddit.com/r/steamcontroller.
Aiming with the gyroscope in the controller is really intuitive and way more accurate than an Xbox controller.
Very good controller if u want to convert your gaming PC to a console experience.
So, downgrade it? ;)
Lel.
But some games are just better played with a controller. Dark souls or rocket league for e.g
This is true, as for most arcade style racing games (Dirt, GRID, Wreckfest etc)
and Street Fighter
Don't forget to set it to 720p and lock FPS to 30 for the full experience
Or 1080p for the ps4 experience.
You'd have to downgrade a heck of a lot more than a controller to get a console experience !
and upgrade your camping chair to a couch and a 60inch plasma
For anyone who has signed up to prime already: Is it any cheaper buying two?
comes up as US$82.33 shipped
Dod they fix the lag issues
Lag? ive never read anything of lag issues
There's never been any lag issues.
in you play street fighter v with this controller there is 8 frames of input lag.
Has never been my experience.
Gonna wait for second gen.
Ordered controller for $50 (+ steam link) yesterday. Cancelling order now and will re-order for $35. Thanks OP, saved me a few $$$.
Dammit my cancellation failed and the controller is shipping. Oh well.
On the same boat here, but i ordered 2 !! =_=]
Join Prime and then go to live chat and ask for a refund on price difference. That should solve the problem.
@errorius: ok try that and fail.. Post price match is no available from Amazon. =_=
@Theeded: Really? I have had price-matching refunds given after an order from Amazon a number of times.
@johnno07: They recently changed their policy not to do it any more: http://www.recode.net/2016/5/23/11746112/amazon-price-drop-a…
I've also been denied a partial refund post purchase price drop so buyers beware.
I didn't know that, interesting policy change. Particularly for people in th US, wouldn't it be cheaper for Amazon to refund a difference rather than receive a return and re-ship an item at a lower cost?
@bxpressiv: Will they accept a return just because you're unhappy with the price?
"You may return most new, unopened items sold and fulfilled by Amazon.com within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error."
So basically, if you pay to return it you don't need a reason.
I spoke with 2 customer reps who advised about the recent change to their partial refund policy. They just won't do it anymore. Can you do free returns from Australia? If so I'll return the controller on principle just so they can see what a ridiculous policy they have when they have to pay return shipping on an item rather than making up the difference in price by giving store credit which will then be spent on another item from Amazon anyway.
You can definitely do a refund easily but the shipping cost to return, I believe, will be on you.
Updated - i got rejected from online chat, then received an email that they will do refund for just this one time off for me.
I know actually it not their faults or anything like that but just this special support can really make different.
What to do if already done prime trial before?
Amazon support did not take pity on my request for another trial, but there is a US10.99 a month option. I ended up getting someone else to buy it for me under their name
If you start a 30 day trial and cancel, does that mean you can re-start it again later?
Or is it better to just click the 'dont auto renew' button and let it run it's 30 days?
This video review from IGN says its actually pretty horrible and cheap feeling.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/11/10/steam-controller-revi…
most of the early reviews were pretty bad. but, without having used one, it seems to me that the greatest strength of the steam controller is in the customisation and user configs. most of the more recent reviews/comments i've read, now that more people have them and upload their custom configs, are that it takes a while to get used to, and takes a LOT of time tinkering with configs, but that once you've set it up (for any particular game), it can be great - indeed, better than a regular controller for some games.
Haven't played with one myself but I'd agree, tinkering with it for a while would probably give you a better experience once you've got it setup, but who wants to spend hours messing around with settings when you could just hock up an Xbox One controller?
It's hard to admit but the Steam controller 1 hasn't had the promised impact, hopefully they learn from the community and manage to nail a second generation one.
The link is back down to 35 too
